In Poland you must try, (these things you will never find in any other place, not like that): Bigos Gulasz Placki ziemniaczane po wegiersku Ruskie pierogi (best are fried, but hard to find in restaurants. usually they give boiled only) Pierogi z grzybkami Pierogi z kapusta Gulasz piwny Krokiety Zchabowe z kapusta Golabki Lazanki Fasolka po bretonsku Salads for main dishes: Salatka z czerwonej kapusty Salatka z selera i marchewki Soups: Barszcz Zupa ogorkowa Zupa pieczarkowa Zupa pomidorowa Other than dishes (stuff great for bread): ogorek kiszony (fermented pickles) kapusta kiszona (fermented cabbage) bialy ser (fermented white cheese) kielbasa and szynka (there are so many awesome smoked sausages and hams!) Sledz marynowany Ruska salatka Snacks: Precel Zapiekanka Piernik Sernik Kapusniaczki Czekoladki z nadzieniem mietowym (chocolate with mint cream, they are shaped like discs)

Sweet cabbage you guys were eating is really kohlrabi or kalarepa in Polish. As far as the dough for pierogi, nobody pounds it for 2 hours. It has to be rolled thin in order to be tasty. Cool vid.
@Azuriel855
@Azuriel855 3 года назад
2hrs sounds iffy? It looks the same as wrappers for handmade dumplings, which takes only 10-15mins of vigorous kneading~

I’ve gone on a few food tours in Europe. My favorite was in Madrid by Devour=Spain. They now have tours in several cities in Spain plus Paris and I think Rome. Spain has Tapas. Great concept. Buy wine or beer and get a small portion of food. Go to another spot and do it again. Spend 10:euros and you’ve had 5 drinks and dinner. Amazing. Love the idea of tapas.

I'm married to a 2nd generation Pole.... first one in the whole extended family who is not. First thing i learned to love was pierogi, and also something I can't tell you what it is: bigos. We would go to the Polish Nat'l Home for Easter dinner of pierogi, kielbasa, bigos, thick rye bread, roasted potatoes. ( the Home is sort of like an Elks or Lions club, but the people must buy shares to be a real member. My hubby was gifted 1 share as a boy.) There is also a local Polish radio station and they would broadcast from the Home on Easter. Each year I collected little Polish dolls and Pysanki, which are decorated eggs, from the craft tables, that were covered with beautiful laces, embroidery and other lovely handmade things.

I've been watching you since your trip to Thailand and now you're in my country! I'm from Warsaw :). Hope you will visit Warsaw sometime - we have much to see and there's so many other tradicional dishes to try! P.S. Actually we do have pickles and lots of things in vinegar :D - cucambers (but pickled in salt are more popular), peppers, mushrooms, onions, garlick ,pumpkin, herring - even fruits like pears :).

ignore Chicago's "authentic" polish food.... youve got to go to Poland and have the real deal... cheese and potato pierogies, bigos and zurek (with kielbasa and boiled eggs)... it is dope! later in the evening go out for a cold glass of Zybiec (beer) z sokiem... and finish the evening with desert and coffee or polish gelato... Sopot, Gdynia, Gdansk, Mielno, Kolobrzeg, Wroclaw, Warsaw, Krakow, Zakopane, Duszniki in the winter, experience Xmas in downtown Warsaw.. I miss you Poland. Thanks for the video.

I have never heard of them being banned in the UK. A quick Google search brings up no evidence of this. Can you be more specific about the ban? Opium poppies grow wild in Britain, although they are not native. You will find an entry for them in any British field guide to wild flowers.

You've totally sold me on food tours. They definitely seem like the best way to experience local cuisine. I've also heard street food is a good way to do that, but in many countries you have to be careful since our "delicate" digestive tracts can't always handle the more exotic dishes. I laughed out loud watching Nate take a shot of vodka followed by HERRING. Ha ha! The latter is definitely an acquired taste, whether salted, pickled or just served whole and raw as they do in the Netherlands. There is a large Polish population here in Milwaukee, WI where I live, and we have at least one Polish restaurant which I've been to. They serve bigos, homemade pierogis, the pickle soup you had, and also another traditional soup called "czarnina," which is cold duck blood soup served with spaetzle and raisins. An interesting experience...and not for the faint of heart. Excellent video!
