Yellow cheddar is colored with annato, which comes from a fruit. It's as natural as the blue coloring in blue cheese. And American cheese isn't plastic, just, well, processed so it melts more evenly and doesn't break releasing oil. NileRed -- who has multiple chemistry channels -- made American cheese to satisfy himself It's not "plastic", so you can see the process on his channel.
ITs cheese sause by european standards, its made with actual cheese, not this toxic vibrant orange bricks of chemicals you people call cheese. Thus the mild color of the sause and mild taste.
The orange is beta carotene added to milk cheese, you are confusing Cheese with American Cheese which is actually Canadian, Cheese product of Cheese emulsified with gelatin.
Exacly, hudge amount of MRE's has mussli for breakfast. WTF? Is mussli good meal when temperature is below 0 and you are digging trench. A lot of polish canned meat is send to Ukraine because in such hursh combat a soliders needs a lot of proteins and fat.
Od jakiegoś czasu to co teraz nazywają Krakusem ,to zwykle gówno jak reszta konserw ,nie ma nic wspólnego z BYŁYM Krakusem. Konserwa kaprala jest lepsza
I don't know why everyone thinks that polish winters are harsh. I live in the mountains and right now we have mild winters with not much of snow cover. On the lowlands it's even milder. Some places barely see any amount of snow. Poland isn't Russia and our winters are milder. Becoming even milder.
True, but still there are week or few with temperature -20 or more and winds. Week of those and people will remember the old :) Although i agree, it's much more mild in winter last years. And it snows on Eastern more than on Christmas :D
Golonka is amazing food. Also expecting orange cheese sauce is how to tell someone you are American without telling someone you are American. :D You should just open that can a little bit to heat it. We do not as much sugar and taste enhancers to our food as Americans. Leczo is a Hungarian dish, but Poles love it. We do not use much sugar because sugar is empty calories. In EU if something is called honey, juice or butter it has to be honey, juice or butter. :D
previous versions of MREs had water purification tablets. The ziplock bags were for 0.5 liters. The large, green bag was for 1 liter. They were later reintroduced. The extras included disposable toothbrushes.
considering the MRE is 4 years expired, these meals looked like they held up surprisingly well! id gladly eat them on a regular day, too! especially the leczo - one of my favorite dishes of all time.
This ration is like this because during the Afghanistan mission it blew up how our soldiers were ill-equipped, the government even resorted to giving them money for gear as doing it normal way through the state would take too long. So ever since then the state of Poland is very picky about things like boots, magazines, helmets and food rations and the idea is to make the stuff only to give you the kick, but long lasting energy, regenerative nutritient and make you feel good. These things in there feel a lot like what we would eat as children at home, from dishes to specific candies.
About SU - 1, panzerwaffles, or as in civilian shops in Poland, Suchary Beskidzkie, are great. And, what's important in any MRE, one of those is around 100 kcal...
and, as someone else said in this comment section, they are apparently great additions to the soupy sauces of main dishes. I've never used crackers for such purposes, but whenever I eat leczo I always crumble some bread into it to soak up the sauce.
The main meals of those Polish MRE's goes around 3€ in Europe. They are cheaper in Finland then average micro meal's. I have few dozen on my pantry...these will have use date on 2-3years after you buy them. They taste like the real food. Ah once watched more, those cans are gone and German like tins are in and flameles heaters.
I assure you that in field conditions you would eat everything with pleasure, and this popular "Lecho" tasted so good to you in Poland - you cut the squash, pepper and smoked sausage into cubes, throw them into a pot and cook over low heat, adding salt, sugar and pepper to taste.
That honey is so good because it's just straight up honey. Not like in US you have honey products that contain some % of honey, this one is just 100% of honey. No need for processing it. Poland being cold is a stereotype/thing of the past. Also if the best kiełbasa you've even eaten comes from an MRE then you can haven't eaten a proper kiełbasa.
@@ReadinessRations Canned meat is little overdated as you trully mentioned. They are in MRE because of bivouac culture. Tent, Lake and konserwa tyrolska :)
@@some-jk4nx If one of your parents is Polish then you have polish passport. Full citizen rights. If he wanna live for example in Spain then it is better for him because he is also EU citizen.
After encounter with U.S. MRE on one of the proving grounds in PL we familiarize ourself with saying: "Why eat good and tasty food when you can take no shit breaks for 2 weeks..." It was still edible thou. The meat in PL cans is better when you cut it in stripes directly in can and extract with knife. One fire tablet was lost in my gear and the smell last for weeks...
Cold in Poland? We didn't have proper winter for years now. We maybe get a week or so of temperatures below -10C, most of the time there is barely even any snow these days. It's like it's very long November then ridiculously short spring and hot summer. Some regions like more mountainous areas and Suwałki (near Belarussian and Lithuainian border) are colder but overall it got really warm in the last decade.
Belief in "global warming" is proof you're ignorant of history. 1) warm times are good times. Better crop yields and it's easier to tolerate heat than cold. Globally, through written history and archaeology, people thrive when the world is warm. 2) cold times are hard times. Colder means less rain, meaning lower crop yields. The Bronze Age Collapse and the first three pandemics in written European history were preceded by cold years. If human industry is causing warming, what caused it 1000 years ago? What caused it 2000 years ago? When I was very young, the threat was we were running out of food and raw materials, I got a little older and we were headed for a new ice age. Now we're supposedly overheating. All these different problems, but the solution pushed is always the same -- we need to be poorer, less free, and give total power to the government. I'm starting to suspect the "solution" is what interests people, not any actual problems.
@@rcrawford42 1) This is not as simple as warm = good, cold = bad. Heavy draughts are definitely not good for crop yeilds and neither is desertification. We are basically in the interglacial period and yes it is warmer and we are supposed to be heading towards the next ice age. What is worrying is the rate of change. It coincides with our constantly increasing output since industrial revolution. 2) What do you mean by cold times? Ice age, sure it is harder. Something like little ice age during XVIII century while it was a time of hardship it didn't do much overall. As to the bronze age collapse we still have no idea what caused it and its all speculation. People will often bring natural cycles as an argument but glacial interglacial periods are not anywhere near as sudden. Milankovitch cycles take from tens to hundreds of thousands of years to shift, not a century or two. In the end Europe itself will not change anything with it's policies and as you said it will make itself poorer, US barely cares so does China and Japan and we have only one atmosphere so we are screwed anyway. I don't have children so I don't care but children of my friends have fun times ahead of them. As the desertification progresses and southern Europe will get devasted by draughts migration crisis we have now will be nothing in comparison, along with food shortages. I don't believe it will be some kind of extinction level event but it will be extremely bad for many parts of the world.
@@afgncap All the carbon supposedly ruining the atmosphere CAME FROM THE ATMOSPHERE. It was all supposed to end twenty years ago if we didn't de-industrialize, but it never happened. Maybe realize you're being lied to to scare you into giving others power over you?
Excellent video presentation. This is the most comprehensive MRE review I have ever watched. No one else goes nearly enough into the flavour profile of the food. While the nutrition part may be the primary concern, if the food is bland or doesn't taste good, it really misses out on the morale improving potential.
Salty and overcooked. I wonder why. Maybe because it's an MRE? Something that's supposed to survive at room temperature in summer? And be edible even 5 years after best by date? Preserving it is priority number one. An army either marches on a full stomach or on the stomach contents of the guys in front of them. We prefer the first option.
A tip for future reference: the instant tea (sugary pellets) preferably should be made with hot water. While it can be dissolved in cold water, a hot water dissolves it in an instant and also activates the aroma in the oils that are present in it. :)
Great review ! And the ration is in pretty good shape as for 4 years past date, except candies and a bit soft crispbread-everything was edible. i like the Leczo also, the combination of the smoky kielbasa and the veggies is perfect. And... I learned something from your vid- it is possible to bit the kofik :) I have never tried it.
@ReadinessRations want even better thing from same source? Test what ARPOL has in their online shop. Apat from things packed into the rations, you can also buy canned and packed food that usually goes into field kitchen inventories, like ~1kg cans of beef with sauce, canned soups etc. And you can get those even cheaper than rations themselves. You can basically make up your own rations for 70% of price of regular ration or less.
Next time rehydrate fruits by adding water from 1/4 to 1/3 bag height and leave it like that closed for 15 minutes. Another way just fill it by water up to 3/4 add some sugar and save it closed till you gonna need something to drink.

about dryed cherrys and jam you eat, i believe google traranslate "wiśnia" as just cherry, but it schould be tart/sour cherry, normal cherry in polisch is czereśnia (pronounce some like cherechnia)
You should disolve the packet drinks in a hot water especially if is cold and get full taste thats why you have 6 pack lighter.By the way you dont eat the can meat with spoons, fork, you supposed to spread or cut pieces on to a those bread ratio....
From viewing many MRE videos about American mres yeah it’s very true a country known for its insanely big amounts of portions of food their mres are lame compared to most European ones
Awesome review, RR. I have to say lunch would be my favorite. The canned meat spread definitely not my cup of tea. It reminds me of this spreadable meat my mother tried to feed us. You're way to young to know about this brand, it had a red devil on the can as was some deviled meat spread. Wishing you and your wife a great Sunday.
Polish canned meats are different than the Western ones - we usually keep the flavour as natural as possible, so the only chemicals in them is salt, citric acid and nitric (V) sodium, to keep the meat in colour. If You have a Polish shop in Your vicinity, You need to try pork hock or knucle, especially, if they are from Krakus or Łuków. Hands down, best tasting and most affordable. Avoid "Turist's Delight", that one is the lowest quality.
An anegdote: I'd attended to the Polish Motorway concession ceremony. The businessmen, including my colegues from The Team of Bechtel Boys, w'ed been so busy to attend the party. Finally I grabbed the sturgeon skeleton deprived of any piece of receiblae food by journalists. With a simple question: "Where is the ochmistrz of Belvedere" (Ochmistrz means Majordomus). "Within 15 minutes I can supply only plums in bacon" OK. Zawijaski The Polish diplomacy secret weapon. You should see how these plums in bacon went out by toothpickcks to all the party.
it is MRE. those are even good 8 years after (yup i ate one 8 years expired. nothing bad happened to me. but then again i am known to have more resilient stomach than most.)
@@kamirostorino9416 This reminds me when I was studying in England, and British guys would throw away beef steaks just because they passed expiry date. I had to give them a lecture about traditional meat trading and how beef is clearly good when still nicely red and not brown, despite the expiry rate. I've proven my point by taking all expired steaks from them, cooking them with onions, garlic and carrot, eating and never having any issues.
There's a difference between "eat before"/"safe before"/"expiry date" and "best before" date. MREs are "best before" but are mostly shelf stable and can be safely eaten even decades after the "best before" date.
Products with "use by" have strict dates, those are mostly things which expire quickly like fresh meat, dairy etc. "Best before" means the food after stated date will lose flavor and/or texture, but can still be edible for years if stored properly.
@@piotr7805 It *may* lose flavor and texture, but if it was stored properly will likely not be affected for a while after. Basically, eat before is for food that is not preserved and thus perishes like anything fresh would (can turn from edible to inedible overnight), or for anything that may last longer but is hard to say when it goes bad/goes critically bad (like medicines). Best before is for foods that can have a minimum guarantee by which it will be good even if stored incorrectly, but its shelf life can be extended significantly by proper storage, or even some luck.
Canned meat and dry food can last much longer than 5 years past their best by date. Some things, like pure corn starch kept dry in a sealed container, will still be safe to eat when your kids, should you choose to have any, are old
it says "Best before [date]" not "uneatable after [date]" a properly preserved food (especially dry one) will be safe to eat even up to 10 years after the "expiration date". If anything it was the candy (the melted one) that expired after that date.
I'm a Pole, and i need to point out, that any commercially made kiełbasa have nothing, that could compare with freshly made one by local village butchers. You didn't need mustard, ketchup, bread even... it was so good, that you could start a rampage just to get yours hands on it and stuff your face with it. Unfortunatelly this tradition is dying out.
