Anna, I recently found your channel and you are taking me back to my childhood! I'm 81 years old and grew up in Chicago with a grandmother, mother and father who always prepared traditional Polish foods! My wife recently passed away and she tried preparing many of the traditional dishes! I recently tried Golabki ..... it was close but will do better next time! Love the shows!!!

My mouth is watering too. The addition of marjoram at the end sure does give the soup that Polish flavour. Here in my part of Canada, parsley root is not easy to find, so I substitute with parsnip. Makes a little difference, but still delicious in most of my soups. Keep making us smile.

I cannot understand why parsley is underestimated in Anglo-Saxon countries. In Poland, parsnips are fed to pigs. Parsley is very easy to propagate, order seeds and leave a few plants in the ground and you will receive plenty of seeds for the second year

Great idea about the stove! Sauerkraut soup was the first soup I ever made! We got a kitchen-full of cousins one day who came to hunt, and my dad said make a pot of soup, and they all left! I had to call my aunt Mae to ask her how to make soup! She talked me through a sauerkraut soup and everyone loved it! It's always been one of our family's favorite soups! We used to make sauerkraut every year - like 40 quarts or more - and so we found lots of ways to eat it! I love watching your videos! Keep them coming!

I made it today! I used four large country style ribs because that’s what my store had. When they were done, I removed them from and shredded the meat from the bone and added back to the soup. Since I’m a “newbie”, I rinsed my kraut and drained it. I then added it to my bacon/onion and covered and let simmer. This way the kraut was cooked when adding to the soup. It’s soooo good! Thanks Anna!❤️😘

Made this last weekend. My husband finished it off behind my back. What makes that amazing is that I've seen him settle for toast and jam if he has to get anything out of the fridge himself. Definitely a recurring soup over the next several months.

Never been to Poland but this is so similar to a sauerkraut soup i tried and learned in Latvia. Biggest difference was really in the spices which had tomato paste, bay leaf and dill. Making that now which is how I found this. Next time I will try this Polish one! ✌🏽✌🏽

Will definitely try this. Sauerkraut is so very easy to make, and it's so very easy to make a lot of it (1 cabbage doesn't make enough, so you might as well cut up 2. Or 4. I have several pints canned, and a nice big jar of fresh in the fridge. Have a couple of pints of broth made with smoked turkey bones, so pick up some meat and I'm ready to go.

Hi-Czesc. I also add some dried wild mushrooms soaked in hot water for 3 or 4 hours, both mushrooms and water. Adds something to this great soup. Question: My Grandma and Mom (originally from Kresy) would take a spoon of flour and mix it very well with about a cup of sweet cream, and then slowly pour it into the soup stirring constantly. Or slightly brown the flour and then add the cream, and pour it into the kapusniak. (Adds another dimension to this soup.) Is the addition of flour and cream a Polish thing, or more a custom from Kresy. (Now Ukraine and Belarus)

Hello, I am a third-generation Polish-American trying to rediscover some of my family's recipes. What would you think in this recipe of removing the ribs and bacon and substituting kielbasa and pork hocks, possibly smoked? Also, if using kielbasa, would you suggest cutting back on the allspice and marjoram? Thank you, this video was wonderful!!

Use what you have (you can even go meatless and substitute with mushrooms), definitely keep the spices. 👍🏻
