Polishing CanCoat Off The E92 M3 

Came here for a rant and was immediately satisfied a couple minutes in haha.

Honestly, I’m impressed can coat is that hard to get off. When you mentioned you were thinking about doing this, I figured it would be pretty easy to remove.

Can we actually get "Stay tuned for more stupid!" on a T-shirt please? Will buy it for sure! I love it when Matt goes on these little rants, because I'd do the exact same thing. Sometimes I think he's my long lost older brother...

Wet sanding the areas with the highspots will get it back to perfect again, that way you're removing as less clear as possible to get it done.

One more round of compounding and you should see better 0-60 times 😅

First, I wanted to thank you for producing such thoughtful and informative content. I am an ER nurse, and I watch your videos as a means of relaxation (the education is a bonus) after a long day, especially with all that is going on (e.g., COVID-19), particularly here in Southwest Florida. Onto the matter at hand, I just watched another RU-vidr use CanCoat as a drying aid, I almost vasovagaled‼️ He was going to town with that sprayer, applying it liberally would be an understatement. He drenched those panels with overspray galore. I am looking for hydrophobic behavior, UV protection, and some gloss wouldn't hurt either. My vehicle is silver, so it's hard to achieve that "deep" or "warm" gloss that darker colors can obtain with the right product(s). Keep up the great work you are helping more then you think. If you ever offer HQ tours count me in!

I was going to say I have applied can coat plenty of times and never had those issues. At least you figured out the problem and didn’t blame others like most people would do. Like you said how were you supposed to know.

Big pet peeve of mine is when people don't tape off the weatherstripping/moldings and end up damaging them.

Have you tried Meguiar’s “aggressive” clay? I’ve taken 2K clear overspray off with it, quick and easy, no need to beat the paint up with repeated strokes. I use their mild clay for normal situations, but I think this would call for the aggressive clay. I feel your pain, Matt.

Cancoat has a known problem with overspray if you spray close to the car or if there's airflow blowing it. I usually cup the sprayer in a microfiber to avoid overspray. It comes off very easily. A finishing polish on a finishing pad will take it off. Even a hand applied AIO like Klasse will remove it.

Have you tried knocking it down with Powerclean? I think I saw a torture test where CanCoat didn’t survive a few rounds of the chemical strip test.

Surprised to hear you say you didn't get anything visually from Cancoat. I've found it to have a really unique look and some of the best self cleaning properties and beading.

Cancoat is a great product but the application process is a nightmare and no matter what you do theres just no way to avoid those fine dots 😠

No way we could have foreseen this happening really, it sucks man, lot of work again. Well turns out this CanCoat stuff is good after all and its no paint sealant but actual liquid Ceramic. Lesson i learned, Wipe the car panels a couple a times extra or spray the towel outside! Hope it comes off ok, but i guess I'm going to see how it goes.

hey matt pxe 80 have 2" backing plate and extension rod for rotary mode no one have them in us you should bring that here to usa man those attachments will make this guy much more versatile and useful check them out

Car needs to be completely re-sprayed Matt... You're avoiding the inevitable. You know yourself - perfection not attainable when your dealing with garbage paint.

Have you tried meguiars professional aggressive clay? I use the medium clay and it's works great. Maybe give the aggressive clay a shot !

Should have color sanded it Started with 1000 - 1500 - 2000 - 3000 finish with 8000 mirror finish

Should deffo complain to gyeon about the outrageous steps you had to go through because of something you were not aware would happen.There should be a warning of possible effects if not carefull.I feel your pain.

Damn. My experience with Cancoat was good (applied outside), but using it inside is a risk apparently. Didn't know that. By the way, clearcoat flaking of the carbon roof of the E9X M3 is a common issue.

I wonder if CSL might somehow reactivate the remaining globs and help level them out? I know some coatings you can use this method to level out high spots. Also now that the paint has heat cycled a few times I wonder how much of the globs are imbedded? Heating the panels like you did with the water spot removal might help. Just a few ideas.

sorry about the mist, but you are correcting it back to its glory, beautiful car! But how are the window trim holding out? My experience, everytime I se a BMW, they are bare steel at the edges. They are just anodized I think. They are on newer BMW, I have an f10 but still holding up bc I haven't polished them :)

even after all this polishing i can still see the orange peel matt poor m3 is not that poor specially all the goodies you installed in and out and under it it is a fancy one in stead

Yet another reason I stopped using ceramic coatings in 2016.

I had this same problem first time I used CanCoat, but if it's so hard to machine off why doesnt it add any hardness (protection) to the paint, it even says on the website I buy it off it's not scratch resistant, yet the vehicle i used it on was still wash marring??? I I have used Gyeon Syncro on my other vehicle and no wash marring???

this is a proof of bad luck man its not the procedure its not the product matt is the guy know what he is doing but because of this that and the other shit happens sometimes

This is what happens when you apply excessive amounts of the product Matt. You were dividing door panels in 3 and spraying way too much product. You literally need 1-2 sprays into a microfibre cloth PER panel. Not 6-7 sprays for each panel! Hence why you’ve got high spots and hazing.. you’ll notice the high spots everywhere if u put the car in the shade and look at it from various angles. With Gyeon products, can coat, or even Cure, like car pro Reload. LESS is more. I get that u couldn’t see the product going on and u think ur not applying enough, but it’s definitely being applied. U over applied now and need to re-polish the entire car.

These chemists are just messing with matt now..... The same reason in 2020 I am still using Jescar (Menzerna Powelock+) & a good quality friggin wax. These people don't print the most important instructions just to play with us so we have to pay a professional to undo that. lol...

Hey there Matt, I suggest you pick up a paint depth gauge that can measure all three layers base, color, and clear on various surfaces, I’m sure you will find it extremely helpful especially with the types of vehicles you own. It will pay itself off at the end and give you peace of mind and a plan of attack before you start correcting the paintwork, maybe you can even carry them on your site.
