In your review of the Polk HTS12, you mentioned 'slightly boomy.' Is it because the subwoofer hasn't been run in yet? Will this condition still exist after several years of use?
@ElitistReviews
@ElitistReviews 2 месяца назад
oh it still exists after all these years and I said boomy in comparison to other premium subwoofers like KEF, SVS. You can hear the nuances when there back to back tank firings, the driver needs to travel back and forth really fast so it's really tricky to deliver that kind of punch.

Nice honest review! Am currently in search of a sub. Actually planning to buy two 10" subs. Few days back auditioned Polk HTS-10 and DSW PRO 660 (12") as my local Profx dealer does not have the DSW PRO 550 (10") as demo. After spending a couple of hours playing both with identical Bluray clips and Music, some how I liked the HTS-10 despite the DSW series is costlier!! Am a little confused whether to go for dual HTS-10 or dual DSW PRO 550 -which I haven't heard. Any suggestion, help, views is greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Dual sub any day, I'm running Dual Sub HTS 12 and DSW 440 and it makes a huge impact. For HTS series you have to spend a little time in finding the right placement, believe me right placement is very important for the front-firing sub like HTS series and DSW subs are little more versatile in terms of placement in your room coz it's down firing. You can RU-vid how to find sub placement.

@@ElitistReviews thank you for your quick reply. Do you know the reason why there is not much reviews or talks regarding the DSW Pro subs on various forums and RU-vid? It's not just the driver, cabinet also plays a big role, subwoofer cabinets are deigned such a way that it will produce less distortion, low resonance. They have wooden chambers to pass the air waves. A lot of R&D goes into making the subwoofer.

Looks like you set the all the other speaker crossovers to 80Hz and set the LFE/subwoofer crossover at 120Hz. They should all be set to the same crossover frequency. Normally, 80Hz. What settings are you using on the subwoofer itself? The crossover should be set to max and set the volume somewhere around halfway up or 50%. It also looks like you're pushing the sub to it's absolute max, way above the home theater standards are. Most people in most situations wouldn't have the volume that high. Given your testing methodology and review I wouldn't take your assessment seriously at all. Basically, all you did was confirm the product works, nothing more, nothing less. You didn't show where or how it performs well or how badly it performs in certain areas, nothing. You want to review something. Learn HOW to do the testing first. Otherwise this is nothing more than another video that wastes space on RU-vids hard drives. Wow, good accomplishment.
@ElitistReviews
@ElitistReviews 2 года назад
First of all 80Hz is not end all be all, I prefer using 40Hz for my tower and 60hz for bookshelf, 120Hz sub sounds good in my room that way I can localize the bass this is totally subjective and I like that since I have dual subwoofer, check AVS forum. Even if I set the sub back dial volume at 50%, did you know that I can still adjust the all the speaker volume and distance from my AVR ? Shocking huh? all the speaker+subwoofer volume is set through a sound meter. I agree that my review could have been better but listen I'm not a professional RU-vidr, I got two jobs and barely have time for RU-vid, I do these reviews out of passion and nothing else. You won't find a single video where I asked people to subscribe. Instead of discouraging people maybe you should start encouraging for once, I see that you never uploaded a single video as of now, maybe you should upload and show us how it's done.
@ziggy-qe5mk
@ziggy-qe5mk 2 года назад
@@ElitistReviews I was only going by what you were saying and showing in the video, nothing else. To my recollection, you didn't mention any of the fine tuning of any speakers/subwoofers through an AVR or anything other processing equipment let alone set any distances or frequency curves or anything else. You did mention that Audyssey was turned OFF, speaker volume -12dB, subwoofer volume 50%. You also didn't mention anything about boundary gains or space-loading or anything else of the sort. You're right, 80Hz isn't the the be all and end all. However, the vast majority of people for whom this type of subwoofer is designed for and targeted at would use a cutoff frequency of around 80Hz. Using a cutoff frequency of 40Hz may well be optimal for YOUR setup. However, it's not what MOST people would be using thus renders this review virtually pointless. Any other reviewer including Audioholics, use the common crossover frequency of 80Hz to test subwoofers. Notice the word COMMON??? The way you have it set up is not common, but user specific and therefore not a valid representation of what or how COMMON people would use the product. I set my Polk Audio DSW PRO 660WI's at 80Hz crossover and the volume level to 50% and my Pioneer SC-65 still set the subwoofer outputs to -9dB. Yes, I've tried different cutoff frequencies, changed the location of the subs to test the effects of boundary gains, cancelling frequencies and many other options. I'm looking to upgrade my system and am looking at the newer products from Polk Audio and this subwoofer is part of the newer lineups. I come from the car audio field and have built many audio systems. I, myself, have achieved a peak of 138.3dB with only 2 10" subs and only 200 watts RMS. No, not world record breaking by any means, but I did win the competition for that power class 3 years in a row as well as win the overall standings regardless of power. But hey, what do I know, right? As for not having any videos... Do you think it's outside the realm of possibility that I have more than 1 RU-vid account? Maybe not. All I was saying to begin with was that your "review" was inaccurate and not what most people would use. Therefore, the review isn't actually a review, but more of a use-case scenario as to how YOU use it, not how well it actually performs as intended by the manufacturer. Based on the CEA 2010 tests I've found on the Polk Audio HTS10 I'd guess the Polk Audio HTS12 performs on par or slightly better than my Polk Audio DSW 660SI's. Oh yeah, I reread what I wrote and still stand by it. Look at your own "review" from another point of view. If you were looking to purchase the subwoofer, how much credence would you give this reviewer of the product? I'm pretty sure you wouldn't take much of what this person said too seriously either, or as the saying goes "take with a huge pinch of salt" Funny... You post a "review" of a product and expect people to just cheer for your efforts and pat you on the back despite the fact it's lacking in several areas. I offer you a critical assessment of your work and tell you what you could do better and you get all defensive and start attacking me and my accomplishments, and then you say "I'M the one who should offer some encouragement. I'll stop now 'cause I'll just get bashed again anyway. Good luck.
@ElitistReviews
@ElitistReviews 2 года назад
@@ziggy-qe5mk so I set the sub at 80hz Crossover, you clearly see it in the video right? even I said that too I know 80Hz is the common cut off point. I think you are confused with "LPF for LFE" that's the cut of point for higher range, that's how it works in Denon AVR. As per volume for recording purposes I kept the other speaker volume low and only kept the sub volume.
