At least they aren’t as bad at KEF. I recently picked up the q350s for $800- speakers that were $500 not too long ago., along with this SVS sub for $600.. It’s definitely an anti-consumer move, making people regret having to spend so much more than it would have been just a year or two ago. The sound quality of this system (paired with CXA81) definitely lessens the blow somewhat though. It’s an amazing setup, but it’s like they’re flipping off their customers with these price moves.

The Q is a lot easier to adjust if you run REW first....it's a way to compensate for lulls/peaks in specific frequency bands because of room acoustics....you can adjust it without REW by running sweeps from your listening position and once you notice a lull or peak in a given frequency spectrum, you can make the boost/cuts where needed and fine tune it to a wide or narrow bandwidth....I'm really impressed by the fact that adjustment is in the app...super cool
@IvanDem99
@IvanDem99 3 года назад
Awesome review as always. If nobody answered your question yet, Q is the amount of slope on the parametric EQ. So you have Frequency (that is being adjusted), Gain (how much you are boosting or lowering the selected frequency) and Q (how much of the neighbouring frequencies are being affected). So yeah, pretty important.

Would the PB1000 Pro worth an extra 300 aud ? I keep hearing the sb is for music and pb is for movies but how muchbof a difference would it actually be for an average bloke like myself who hasnt had any experience with HT systems. I am building my first HT system and don't have any reference. I would pairing it with entry level Klipsch RP speakers.
@rolandrohde
@rolandrohde 2 года назад
@@rockrocks009 Definitely not worth 300 extra? However, I would seriously recommend going with a different brand for your main Speakers. Klipsch get a lot of hype, but from my experience, they are by far the worst option out there. A KEF, Canton, Elac etc. Setup will likely give you more pleasing Sound. The only time Klipsch would be my recommendation is, if you want maximum SPL with minimum amp wattage!

@@rockrocks009 Ok. Here in Germany the Kef Q series is often on sale for next to nothing. The choice is yours of course, but from my experience...I had Nubert, Elac, Klipsch, KEF and Canton in my HT (went through a few years of trying different things) and for me Klipsch was by far the worst choice. I had the RP600 with the corresponding Center, Surround and so on. After much trial and error and a lot of selling stuff off on ebay I settled on Canton (have the B100 Series with a Townus Center) as the best compromise between cultured sound and impact. The only Klipsch components I kept were the two SPL150 Subs because they are good enough for my needs.

I have this Sub-woofer and got it as part of a system. I LOVE this sub. It is a truly awesome, powerful sound in the space I use it. With the volume set to just above my "normal" listening volume - I hear the windows in the front of the house (3 rooms away) rattling. I turned up to a reputable audio store in M elbourne and said here is my budget, here is my room size, I LOVE music and watch lot of movies, too - Give me some options. The very first thing they mentioned was this sub . And in the 3 setups they recommended for me - the sub was always the same. They love it - as much as you! And since my system cam in under my budget - they could have easily upsold me a different sub.

In simple words, the Q factor is how narrow or how wide you want the boost or the attenuation curve to be. Meaning how much into neighboring frequencies, this boost or attenuation curve, extends or in other words "spills". It is a measure of precision of the desired boost or attenuation. For example, let's say the frequency (called center frequency, Fc) you mainly need to boost or attenuate and generally correct, is 100Hz. A wide Q means this boost or attenuation will affect more frequencies, below and above the Fc. Let's say it will affect down to 70Hz and up to 130Hz. So it will affect a bandwidth of 60Hz (100Hz +/- 30). Which in turn, might not be what you want, at all. A narrower than that Q, could for example be a +/- 5Hz boost or attenuation, hence you'll get a boost or attenuation, between 95 and 105Hz. Thus a narrower bandwidth. Hence more precision. Meaning, less neighboring to the Fc frequencies, to be affected. Which might be exactly what you want. Yes, it is a very important feature and thing to have. In PA systems where you usually find this kind of gear, it's basically what differentiates an equalizer with variable Q (parametric EQ), from an EQ which has a fixed Q curve (graphic EQ). In terms of accuracy for the latter case, you get what you get from the manufacturer and that's it.

I appreciate your dry ribbing of companies with chain-yanking pricing schemes. The more shit they get for that, the better. I don't have any SVS gear, but part of the reason (aside from the sound) I love Schiit and Emotiva so much is they don't jerk you around on the pricing. I was planning on RSL Speedwoofers for when I have the space to set up a full-range system, but I guess I'll have to give these a look too.

Any reccomendations for a good closed back set of headphones that don't require an amp (but would still benefit from one) for metal/rock? I ask because I was something that I can take with me on the go, I currently have a pair of AKG K240s, as well as a pair of Hifiman HE 4XXs, while I do like the "in your face" sound from the guitars with the K240s, I love how the HE4XXs are a faster headphone and how due to this they are able to keep up with blastbeats for the more extreme metal stuff like Black, Thrash, or Death, I know since I'm looking for a closed back set i won't get the large sound stage that I get with the HE 4XXs, but I was wondering if there isn't a closed back set that's kind of hybrid of the K240, and the HE4XXs, I should also add I do like how there is a little more bass with the 4XXs, thus I want something that would kind of be the best of both worlds if possible, but is under $200

There are plenty of subs that can dig deeper and play louder, but they say the REL are the most "musical" of the subs out there. Some of the models go on sale and aren't terribly expensive. I'd love to see a review. Keep up the great work amigo!

SVS, Monoprice, Fluance, Elac & Emotiva all deliver in the bang for the buck market. If this is the future of hi-fi I'm on board. Perhaps Edifier should be included.

Is this like the Emotiva SE12, where you can input music from a DAC on RCA’s, then set the bass frequency cut off point so the sub handles the lows, and the higher frequencies pass through to powered speakers?

You make an interesting point about "pricing shenanigans". I was debating between the Klipsch R120SW and the SVS SB1000 Pro. About an hour after placing my order for the SVS, I see Best Buy (here in Canada) has dropped the price on the Klipsch from $799 to $349 (and not for open-box or anything like that). I'm all for sales, but to me, this kind of difference makes me wonder, are the Klipsch speakers grossly overpriced regularly? Or are they happy to sell product far below cost to generate more sales? Either way, it does not inspire consumer confidence.

They are releasing a new upgraded version around mid-March ‘22. The RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII. Claiming better dynamic range, less port noise (moved port from front to rear) and more power. 400w/1020w peak, with extension down to 22hz. I would love to see this comparison. I’ve heard only good stuff about RSL. The Speedwoofer 10S is at the top of my sub list. For what it’s worth, Brent Butterworth, of Wirecutter fame, recommended the RSL Speedwoofer 10S over the SVS 1000 on my budget several years ago. That carried a weight w/me. He is renown for his audio gear reviews. He’s heard many subs. He also plays bass! I trust his opinion. He steered me to Kef bookshelves, and I have no regrets whatsoever. That said, the Emotiva 12” is right at top w/the Speedwoofer. Decisions… 👍🏼😎. I do own an earlier edition of a SVS 12” sealed subwoofer and live it. Surprisingly easy to integrate w/my Klipsch towers and Kef bookshelves. Quality build & design. Sounds great set up properly. SVS also has top-moth customer service. No complaints or regrets. I just want to try some new subs. Looking at the Emotiva 12” and the RSL Speedwoofer 10s MK II. Bass management of some type is a determining factor. It’s huge to me.

I just discovered my sub died today. I've been looking at SVS subs for 10 years, but never had a good reason to upgrade. Maybe it's ok it died now rather than next month.. The first thing the wife asked was if subs are smaller now, so she's ok with the cost based on the size and warranty.

YES...the Q.... Simply put.. is how wide the bell curve is on your parametric equalizer.... Centered around your chosen frequency of adjustment.

@djambush360

5:42 The Q-factor gives you the option how wide this little knuckle is. Higher Q for a wider frequency-range, lower Q for a smaller range (if there's only a small peak at f.e. 50 Hz you would set the FREQ at 50 Hz, BOOST level until the highest point of your orange wave reaches the highest level of the peak and with the Q-FACTOR you can adjust the wave to fit in the wideness. To do this you should have an frequency response drawing, in the best case directly in this app. But lets look the video to the end. I just found out the app has no option to get a frequency graph. That's kind of odd because your phone actually have a mic to record and just by hearing you will never get the Parametric-EQ set up to the optimal. Maybe there's an update in the future.

So it might be weird or unconventional (new to the surround game) but I paired an SVS sb-1000 with a Klipsch 12sw and to describe it: VISCERAL IMPACT 😯 the settings I have matter for sure and oh boy is it punchy and feel it in the chest without the bloat and it isn’t “loud” it just fits right with my Klipsch towers 👌🏼 Also, alone these subs are good to great but the combo albeit ugly, is what I felt had been missing in my set up. I’m a believer.

same as I own two of those! Absolutely love them! They are def. overkill for my medium room size which I had to go below 1/2 way on the gain for two of them; otherwise, overpowering. I think of it this way: it’s like Horsepower: more is better, too much is just right, Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

Yeah I picked up a heavily discounted SVS SB1000 (Piano gloss) during the out going sales, I'm vary glad I was able to grab one on sale as I finally entered the word of dualies! Here in Canada SVS products rarely go on sale, so as soon as the pro series were announced I started watching a few sites daily patiently waiting until they launched the sales and instantly purchased one. I had a single SB1000 for a few years and absolutely loved it, I likely didnt need a 2nd one in my small room but I just couldnt pass up the sale prices and ideally wanted both my subs to be identical even though I dont think thered be much issue pairing a pro along with a standard, the OCD inside of me needed them to be the same.
