Sam was fun as hell .....I always liked the chick in her pink jumpsuit or whatever it was... Cindy....the hat can kiss my butt give us more Latino woman....or wherever her parents were from
I’m 44 and the theme song is forever apart of happy memories as a child. This and reading rainbow brought me so much joy. It just brings back all the innocence I had as a child despite the horrible things that were going king around me.❤❤❤
I just found myself singing the theme song and had to search! Am so happy I found this! In Zimbabwe, we had one channel in Bulawayo that used to play this program! Aahhh, Good Times! 😊
I remember reruns of this, Polka Dot Shorts and The Elephant Show on TV in South Africa in the 90s - Skinnamarinkidinkidink still pops in my head from time to time.
This program was based on the UK children's tv programme "Playschool" which ran from 64-88 Marigold, Humpty and Dumpty were originally from Playschool as well
OMG!! I’m so happy to see this. I watched this every day along with 3, 2, 1 Contact growing up in northern Wisconsin. Everyone thinks I’m nuts when I ask them if they’ve seen it and mention Polkaroo.
I always talked about this show geowing up ,I remember watching it when i was about 4 and everybody would tell me i was crazy because they said they never remembered any show called polka dot doors so i finally googled it and HA!in their faces lol.
Growing up in Detroit, we were able to get some Canadian channels and I found this channel by accident. I loved this, Simon, the green forest, dr. Snuggles, readalong, etc......
He had a shaved head once on the polka dot door and I couldn't stop looking at his back of his head rolls by his upper neck. It was the first time I had ever seen neck rolls. It really stuck out to me. I was probably younger than 5 then. This is weird but I want to see his neck rolls again
Polkaroo would make a great halloween costume contest. Not to enter. Just to show up with. Walk through the place. And then leave. Never to be seen again that night. That way, everyone can miss him.
Yessir, this, The Elephant Show, The Letter People, Harriet's Magic Hats, Mr. Dressup, Friendly Giant, Mr. Rogers, Under the Umbrella Tree, Pinwheel House, Today's Special, Read All About It, Reading Rainbow, Fred Penner.... and of course Night Drive/Night Walk/Night Ride if I was sick and awake through the night. That last was an excellent series I still re-watch as background while writing or researching. I was a bit young for a lot of these, but still remember watching them for lack of anything better; in the days before streaming content and 800-channel cable service.
Im 50 and i remember watching, this as a kid...i still, remember the dongs and characters, bear was my favorite...❤...My grandkids, caught me watching, the Polka Dot Door ..😅,And ssked me was it time to go to the home..i couldn't stop.... laughing 😂😂❤.
This apparently came from one of the commercially released VHS tapes of episodes. TVO had a very strict no-taping policy (which they really didn't have any legal backing for) so a lot of people didn't record from TVO. And I don't think they kept episodes in any archive. Nobody considered the shows to have any value because they were just kids shows.
This how I remember Polka-dot Door. I just tuned 47..sigh, this is how I remember it. I didn't like the other spin offs..this was the original-a classic..😍 ❤
Do you know where I can find a particular episode of "Today's Special" In the opening credits, it featured Bliss symbols..used on a border for people with CP back then. The episode featured a boy with CP by the name Levi..he was a friend of "Jody" :) Thanks so much..
I've just realized something. The flute in the beginning is actually a sample of a flute used on an instrument called a mellatron. The same sample can be heard in the song Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles. The creators of the theme song probably heard Strawberry Fields Forever, and thought that the sound was good for a TV show for kids. The song Strawberry Fields Forever was released in 1967, whereas this was released in 1971. Just a cool little tidbit of information.
My sister and I used to watch this religiously as kids -- EXCEPT we both hated "Animal Day"...so it was always a big anxious moment when the song went "...get ready get set for" I don't remember why we despised Animal Day so much. I guess we both thought it was kind of boring. I mean, in a world with the glory of Hammy Hamster, how much fun did they expect it to be to merely talk to caged budgies and guinea pigs!?
Anybody else notice that Edmonton had a Klondike days float and Calgary had a stampede float in that Portland parade? Can someone explain this? Of course I grew up with and love this show by the way.
Anyone remember that Canadian educational kids show from this era that was about writing and the alphabet, featured puppets and had a talking shoe as a main character? Or another obscure kids' educational kids show that had a sentient haunted house that talked by opening/closing its front door (IIRC)? Having a hard time tracking these down with Google and nobody I know seems to recall them. They may even be the same show(?)
Readalong! BOOT and PRETTY were both talking shoes; there was also Granny, Mr. Bones the banjo-playing skeleton puppet, and the talking haunted house was on this show as well.
@T R According to Wikipedia, "The theme song was performed by Angela Antonelli, born December 29, 1933 in Guelph, Ontario. Left home at the age of 16 to Study voice under Dr. Ernesto Vinci at Royal Conservatory of Music, Joined the Canadian Opera Company and Starred in Gianni Schicchi opposite Jon Vickers, Gretel in Hansel & Gretel & Marriage of Figaro among others. She was a regular on the Juliet Show for 6 seasons as well as many other radio and television shows. Original cast member of Anne of Green Gables at the Charlottetown Festival and went on to perform in many other theatrical shows."
Ive found about every odd ball show I wat1xhed on public broadcasting but one. It had a big open bay window... A blue and orange puppet bird and a grandfather clock with a human face. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The main charcter looked like Pat from the old snl skits
