Hey everybody! I am really excited about doing this as I have been waiting for over a year to pollinate and cross pollinate my Christmas Cactus AKA Schlumbergera Houseplants. I'm so excited to grow my own schlumbergera for next year from seed with holiday cactus that I have cross pollinated myself. Hope you guys enjoy doing this experiment of pollinating and cross pollinating schlumbergera.

It's rare to see easy to follow guides about how to pollinate, thanks for that!

Very helpful video, I've been wondering how to do that and I really appreciate the close up so we could see exactly what you were doing. Thanks for another great video 😊👍

I'm going to try this with different colours. If it's the same colour I want more of, I just usually take off a leaf segment and pot it up. Many thanks

A tip I learned from Danirlle Tells was writing on the base of the flower, right where it's going to fruit, the initials of what you pollinated it with. So you dont have the tags. 😄

@@StefHall Actually the flower will deteriorate and the petals fall off. Maybe mark the leaf just below?

I just pollinated one of my Christmas cactus has yesterday so it's funny to see that you did a video of it today. I don't know what happens if you pollinate two of the same plant with two different flowers off that plant. I just bought an orange one last week at the supermarket. And a pink one that hasn't bloomed yet! The ones I had here that we're outside over the summer have quit blooming they still have some buds to come though. I think I'm going to put it in the cooler bedroom and see if they'll set some more bloom. Nice videos Stephanie! I did this last year and I remember seeing a seed pod form but it must have fallen off over the summer and I missed catching the seeds I guess

Hi Stef, I have heard of doing this I just never have tried it, there is a RU-vidr and her channel is Danielletells, and she crossed pollinated the Schlumbergera, and it was so cool to see the seed pods and then she took the seeds and planted them and now has so many cute tiny cactus growing. I would love to do this. Thanks so much for sharing this is such a cool video, I just never knew how to go about cross pollinating them. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and I look forward to many more videos. Love you my sweet friend, have an awesome day, bye for now.

Great video! I never seen a self pollinating video before. I wondered myself would a yellow & red bloom create blue or something? Please make sure you do a follow up video. How long does it take before they make fruit?

I will! I'm thinking it will take around 6 months maybe?

Hopefully my dark pink one will bloom soon so I can cross it with my light pink one! The darker one’s buds are falling off because it was severely over watered in the grocery store.

Another hint is try to get and I'm all mixed up on my flower parts right this second but the pollen is the male part and that's the stamen I think and the pistil is the female part the ovary part usually when that's ready to be fertilized it is shiny so if it's turned a darker color it's past time to produce a C diff the pollens put there because the female part has to be moist so that pollen and can swim up the pistol inform the little seeds

Hi Stef! Better late than never, right? LOL! Since I clicked on, I think your newest video, a lot of older videos showed up..... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, I just watched a video from August 2020 that showed you pulling the fruit and planting the seeds. Is that one from the flowers you pollinated in this video? I have 4 new Holiday cactus, but they've already flowered, and/or lost all of the buds. Hopefully they'll bloom again next year so I can try this. Thank you for sharing!

If you put your yellow one intercooler room and not let it get any light after sunset it'll set more bloom

I have a question when I try to pollinate the open flowers of the christmas cactus, I get nothing but pollen sacs but no pollen comes out. How long does it take for the pollen sacs to develop completely. I cannot get pollen it*s all dry
@StefHall
@StefHall 4 года назад
May have to try next year. The Stamen should be sticky when the pollen is rubbed on it. If they are dry, the time may have already passed.
@PhilCollectibles

Stef Hall So as soon as the flower fully opens the pollen is ready and the stigma is ready?
@foodforestfolderol

Self pollinating means that you can pollinate the plant with its own pollen. If they are not self pollinating, they need another plant to pollinate.
