Sometimes you want to pollinate flowers but there is just one clone flowering at that time. Or you want to cross different species that will not flower at the same time. In this video we explain how to save pollen for future use, so that they stay viable. We describe a way to accomplish this by simple means everyone can use. Pollen differ among the species and from only a few species the properties of pollen are known at this time. However there is a good chance the method described here will work to extend the lifetime of the pollen

What’s the use of the glycerin?

Is it possible to store clarinervium pollon without the glycerin? What were the silica packets for?
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 5 лет назад
Silica will absorb water till it is satured, so humidity can go down to 0 % in the surrounding air. That is not what you want. I would expect the same applies for clarinervium

@@Cactusinformation I ended up finding some silica and stored it beside the envelope of pollen over night but took it away before adding to the freezer. I didn't have glycerine. But I have the next inflourescence shooting up now and am excited to try this for the first time! Hopefully it works!

The envelopes you are using look perfect for storing pollens. Did you make them yourself?

Thanks ! My tries wend wrong with doing this.. I think that was becouse i dryed the pollen to much ? I thought that de pollen would rot (or distroyd) by 10% humidity. No drying at all ? Greetings
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 5 лет назад
This could well be. Some species allow to dry below 10% but others don't. Also the pollen have to recover before use including increase of humidity
@21egbert21
@21egbert21 5 лет назад
@@Cactusinformation Thanks ! How long is the recovery time you hold on ?
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 5 лет назад
@@21egbert21 At least one hour. High humidity environment will make the pollen to absorb some moisture

We do not use, but it is normally used for drying

If i want to store pollen for later use (long period) i should keep them in a refrigerator or in a freezer? How long will they last?
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 3 года назад
For periods longer than a couple of months, it is better to use the freezer. In that case the pollen have to be really dry before storing and kept dry. The can last for years. But i am not an expert on all different kind of pollen.

Can possible in rice plant?
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 5 лет назад
Hi Mohammad. Rice must be baked first before use, else it will not work. Once baked i can dry things. It think however that is will just absorb all the humidity (so not a certain balance as with glycerine)

Wish there was any kind of speech describing what is happening. It gets pretty difficult to just look and try to figure out what you're doing, and go back and forth to watch again if I blink.
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 4 года назад
Hi Kathryn. There are subtitles. Speech can not be translated in RU-vid. Also if someone claims that the background music is theirs (even if that is not true), we have to replace speech/sound together, thereby loosing the speech and have to redo the work
