Amazing, as balinese, never heard gamelan music(arrangement) like this. I think this is original, uniqe n creative. like Balinese instrument with new wave western taste. 😁 Great job guys
@@tiyatamakan7829 thats what I thought. Traditionally there is like a pattern that slows down, right? And then play more notes in between the pattern as it slows down if I remember correctly? Correct me if I'm wrong:P
I can't even fathom what I just watched. I've spent the last decade studying western music theory, this is like music made by aliens to me. Holy shit this video is a wild ride.
That is how I felt the first time I was introduced to Balinese gamelan gong kebyar by a dear friend in 1980. After listening to the entire album, Nonesuch’s Golden Rain, I made a pact with myself that later in life when I had the means I would travel to this amazing island and begin to unravel the beautiful mystery of how this music is created. Every summer from 1995 through1999 I traveled there to study the music of the shadow puppetry on the instrument gamelan gender wayang. Extraordinary music for just four musicians. Then, in 2002, I began my study of the great gamelan gong kebyar. My last trip was 2009. I made sure I studied enough of traditional gamelan to gather the concepts of interlocking (kotekan) before I attempted my own compositions. This one was inspired by numerous visits to a great Jackson Pollock art exhibit. Both his names having 7 letters gave me the 7/8 and 7/4 sections of the piece. Influences from the music of India (which I dearly love) helped also. Thank you for your comment!
It's very spiritual like a journey on a magical flying train. And i"m sober, so that's just how great the music is. Bravo! I'm gonna put this on my save video. Thank you!
Thank you very much David. That is what I'm trying to do...make the Balinese scratch their heads. Haha! They sure have made me do that thousands of times during all of my travels and study there. I LOVE them so much!!!
This feels very 'fantasy+elves-ish' kinda feeling to it. Amazing composition by the way. Sounds very progressive kind of music. My mind feels satisfied. Hebat!
The Gamelan is the world's most peaceful orchestra. I like the Balinese and Javanese Gamelan. I do love the Gamelan when played by American and Europoean players.
Orang luar Indonesia ber-bondong" mencintai & belajar sampai PINTAR musik tradisional Indonesia, orang indonesia sendiri ter'gila" kpop cs....baguslah...banget.
Wow.... Saya kagum sekali. Sebagai orang asli bali, saya mungkin tidak bisa memainkan komposisi yang begitu rumit dan cepat seperti yang anda mainkan. Anda benar benar mantap... Salut.
the gamelan tuning tuner doesn't match the pelog barrel, not to mention the drum has leaked, maybe it can be fixed by bringing in the gamelanan tuner from bali
This performance will be much better if the sound of Gong and the instruments at right hand side (which provide bass sound) were managed to be a bit louder. Anyway, good job guys.
My composition was inspired by a few visits to an art exhibit of Jackson Pollock. Pelog is the name of the musical scale that this Balinese gamelan is tuned to.
