I've had my GTI since 2019 (new) and plan to keep it because the replacement is now more than R200K extra. I also purchased additional maintenance plan up to 150 000 KM's. Tyres, I replaced 3 sets so far and currently on the forth set, usually get around 35000KM per set because I rotate them every 6000KM (MPS4). As for fuel consumption my car averages around 6.3L/100 at this stage (down from 8.2 - 8.8L/100KM's. I just driver slower now :) Only negative I have is the carbonised valvles that need to be cleaned every 50000KM's but its covered under the maintenance plan so its a small inconvenience over the full term of ownership.
Good video and sounds about spot on regarding cost. I own an Stage 1 GTI AW down here in Cape Town, pushing around 184kw. What a daily to own, worth every penny.
In my opinion , people should buy an expense ( yes expense ) like this ONLY if they have atleast double the value of the vehicle in appreciating assets/investments. But at the end of the day, there's a VW salesman somewhere hoping a young guy with bad financial skills seeking external validation walks through that dealership door.
The fuel consumption is actually really good. I have 2019 Vivo 1.4 and my average urban consumption is 8l/100km. 33ltrs of fuel would get me around 410kms.
I think it's better to save up a bigger deposit for this car. I have the 2019 model and the market for it at the time was around R400k, even ones with low mileage. My instalment is less than the one stated here thanks to the sale of a previous car. The facelift and beyond have ridiculous price tags on them, considering that only mostly exterior parts have changed and the drive train has stayed the same (EA888Gen3b and DQ250). Also have the PS5 tyre. Can be had for less than 3k if you shop around, Tiger wheel and Tyre I find often give you a good deal. No doubt it's an expensive car to run, if not mainly doing highway driving, the little sprints here and there really kill the fuel consumption. Buying the VW maintenance plan will be well worth your money, especially considering they are willing to extend the plan, at a cost to you, up to 150000km or more. Hope you find the right dealership to see to your car though, they can be naggingly annoying at times to deal with. Still, a fantastic mini hot hatch, can give bigger cars in this category a run for their money in the right hands and with the right set up. Also very nicely specced if you have the correct options ticked (digital cluster, heated seats, lane change assistance). The biggest annoyance in this model range is the dreaded Service Campaign 24WH, which essentially killed the performance of the pre facelift cars to match emissions of the facelifted versions. Definitely a car to get if one can afford the costs.
I wouldn’t include all of the finance because some of your payment will go towards the balance owing and a portion of that will make its way back to you when selling. So that money is just moved elsewhere temporarily. Maybe instead the cost paid in interest and the cost of devaluation. Surprised how much fuel is used, it’s almost on Tiguan level. But the fun factor is most likely worth it. (If I’m well behaved I can squeeze 1200km out of the same size tank on my Polo TDI)
Affordability is relative, there's someone who earns R15000 in the comments saying Yoh🙆🏾♂️ at the same time there's someone who earns R45000 per month who is smiling and saying that's affordable.
I earn enough i owned a mk7 gti clubsport and sold it after 6 months because even though i afforded it and was still left with some decent money, after pops and banging and spending R1000 a week on fuel going to work which is 10km away i was like “yooh”
Have owned my Mk7 golf GTI for just over 10 years. Maintenance and service plan for first 100k. My rough calculation for owning the car over this time - R640k (including tires & insurance). Include petrol and it’s easily R1m
Wow that is insane especially for what is supposed to be a economy car slightly warmer over. This is why I stick to used Japanese cars that have already taken a big depreciation hit. For that same annual amount you could have an older tuned mk1 for fun drives and then something like a used Honda Jazz for everything else. Thanks for the breakdown it absolutely proves what a waste of money cars can be.
I get the advice or rather education behind this , cars are no longer cheap especially VW cars but you still went ahead and purchasing one surely out of love and affordability , happiness… sometimes it’s all we need… Great content though, very detailed 👌👌👌
I also own a Polo GTi AW....just bought 4 brand new tyres, however mine is the 18 inch. Paid 8k on a buy 3 get 1 free deal. Good year Asymmetric 6.....also have a flatbed BMC filter, downpipe and JB4....car feels much more lively
I did own one for just over 2 years, intown Joburg driving gets 380km per tank from a 35 litre tank. I also had Eibach Springs fitted. Insurance cost was R1500. Great Car to Drive 👍
Great video and thorough breakdown, seems a lot but if you compare to other cars it isn't all that bad, note your resale value will be excellent on this car.
These are fixed costs on a reasonable month... If you take a shot left or visit your parents in Limpopo every month end plus running errands while over there the figure easily rises up to 20k. With the ridiculous potholes you are likely to get a puncture as well🤦🏿
I paid R2800 each for my tyres well it’s Bridgestone 215/40/R18…found them to be cheaper in the North West, where I’m based vs Durban (Home)…also previously got Michelline Pilot sport for 2850, in 2021…
@@fueledlife3788 hi Man, they are definitely good, it’s Bridgestone Turanza. They initially came with the car…i struggled to get stock in 2021 when i hit a pothole, then change to Michelline…i then found them this year now when i did tyre changes…I’m happy with them
Great video especially for South Africans, they buy expensive cars not knowing the maintenance and operating cost. Don't be fooled by those ones where the company contributes towards installment, insurance and petrol card. Buy assets so that they can pay for you liabilities if not have a massive down payment.
I will never understand why people purchase car's on finance, if you cant afford it just don't do it. Accept the stage of life you are at, live simple, be happier, I have a Polo, its very cheap to run & maintain as I can easily budget it, perhaps If I bought an AMG Mercedes It would be a different story but I buy within my means, Sorry Bro, but I have no sympathy for complaints like this.
good video, everything seems on point, good insurance rate. good for people to know what they get in for. also dont get michelin pilot sport 5 any more, overpriced. get conti sport contact 7
Let's say you have two options. You can afford paying for the car etc, lik3 you've been doing.. or you could settle the car finance agreement? Wht would you do?
2024 AW GTI owner here. Do you also have rattles in the rear doorcards if music is played loud? Considering sound deadning and some Audison/Hertz/Focal replacement speakers front and rear. Beats option not spec-ed. Thank goodness
But considering the power differences, the 450 km/tank is good actually. I owned this car for around 4 months and I was also getting 450/tank on city driving. The only problem with some of is with such car is when live a bit far from work and most of the trip is city driving. I remember my fuel cost per month was around R5,5k which was the same as the car installment.
Could you elaborate more on the paint removing scratches and dents. Did it blend well with the overall paint of the car. Were there any specialised tools you used?
At the end of the day it’s a big loss of money, I don’t regret it as I love the car and it was a dream. I am however looking into property now and would rather be investing the money there. 🙌
@@007unity cars are so so expensive, but everything is SA is just so insanely expensive. I currently drive a 2022 Polo Vivo Highline and I’m close to be paying everything this guy mentioned here
8k for tires bro from where 🤣🤦🏻♂️ I think your being ripped off my Golf R has 19inch Talladegas and my tyres only 2k each or 4K for a pair... Tiger wheel and tyre too..
@@fueledlife3788I really was hoping to buy this car around September or October… but 14K a month is just too much; you didn’t even mention servicing the car - which comes annually.
Gti's is rubbish I always say it rather buy a Alfa Giulietta 1750 turbo you won't regret it my mom had one and my dad drove it hard everyday revs in the red and it goes like stink had zero issues.
Have you all seen that polo life 1 liter , if you round off that price it's almost half a million rand that to me is ridiculous for a VW Polo not even GTI😂😂😂
It is an incredible car, definitely worth. I would say don’t waste money on it if it is going to prevent you from buying a home or investments. 🙏 rather save, grow your money. That’s what I have learnt.
@@fueledlife3788this is the best and most practical advice I've seen anywhere on RU-vid. Cars are depreciating assets and only need to get you reliably from A to B. Living your dream or trying to impress your peers is expensive and financially destructive if you can't afford it
@@fueledlife3788"Since start" refers to the start of the current trip. The car will start measuring the average consumption from the moment you start the engine the first time from cold. It wil reset the measurement if you stop for an extended period of time (indicating that your trip ended).
@@fueledlife3788 There's another reading called "Long Term" on the same menu - it measures for the last 1000km or so. There's also another one called "Since Refuel" - which resets every time you refuel the tank. I guess the long term is your best bet - but not ideal since you are looking for lifetime consumption.
