I'm dipping my toe into working with clay. I'd like to thank you for your informative videos. I wondered what the multi cube cutter was for and now I know lol. I was going to put a order with you but as we know the world of postage has gone mad😬. Thank you again 🤗🇬🇧

So lovely and organised , especially compared to my eyeing up the colours. I love these videos, they are so to the point and helpful. A question I have is I feel I struggle to get BRIGHT colours, they always seem to be a bit dull to me

Thank you so much ☺️ So when colour mixing, your starting colours will determine how bright or pigmented your final colour is. In our colour theory video I talk a bit about this with clay because there isnt really a pure pigmented set of primary colours. For example most use cadmium red but this actually has orange undertones so can dull when mixed with oranges complementary colour blue. If I know I want a really bright green for example, I would start with a green bias yellow such as sculpey sunshine yellow or even a neon yellow and add a light bright blue that also has a green bias such as turquoise. I hope that makes sense! You can also lighten with white but that will only bring the tone up, not brighten. Hope that helps 😊

Are there any differences in the weights of the different brands of clay? I think I would have guessed soufflé is lighter than premo.

There is a slight difference in weights for each block of Premo and Souffle (8g per block). I try and keep my starting colours for recipes as the same type of clay but if I did have a mixed recipe I have 3 options: 1. Mixing small amounts has negligible weight changes so I keep to my recipe 2. If possible, swap out the colour for the same one in the different style (ie igloo and white, or Spanish olive and khaki are almost identical but one is Premo and the other is Souffle) 3. If all else fails, you can cut out the same shape from each colour and weigh them to see what the weight difference is between clays for 1 part, then adjust your weight calculation to suit. My advice when creating your own recipes to avoid this is to stick to the same brand and type 😊 it will save you a lot of headaches in the long run if you mean to create large quantities of your colours
