Polymer Clay Faux Technique: Faux Agate Pendant Tutorial

In this tutorial I’ll be showing you how to create a faux polymer clay agate pendant. I showed this technique in a tutorial a little while back in a faux agate dagger tutorial. A few of you wanted to see the flat version shown in the intro before the video, so after a little while I finally got around to making the tutorial.
This one’s going to be a little different from the last one as I’ll be showing you how to make the purple version rather than the blue and green one I showed before.

Hi Samantha, this is really pretty. Can you do this tech and make more then one bead at once?

Yes you can, just make the stack of clay you flatten taller so that you have more clay. Then you'll flatten it out and have a larger veneer to work with.

@rachelporter6077
@rachelporter6077 4 года назад
The process of twisting and dragging the needle across will cause a tiny bit of purple to mix with the translucent, giving it that effect
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 4 года назад
I use purple alcohol ink to mix into the clay to make it purple.
@cristinagualtierotti6345
@cristinagualtierotti6345 6 лет назад
Hello Jessama, I have really enjoyed your wonderful tutorials. I would have a little question because I prefer to be sure to have well understood. When I prepare the tiny pieces of clay before colouring with alcohol ink , do I have to use not conditioned polymer clay? And also in the following steps I don't need to use pasta machine? Many thanks Cristina
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 6 лет назад
when it comes to conditioning in this technique I prefer not to condition. It seems to encourage mooning in the translucent which is something I like in faux stones. You don't really need a pasta machine in this tutorial other than when you want to roll out the sheets, but you could use a roller for that.

Are the stones shiny from just sanding them? What if I don't have that grit for sanding? What does translucent clay do to projects?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 3 года назад
I sanded them up to 2000 grit, but I also used a gloss varnish. Translucent gives a semi transparent effect to a project.

Hi Samantha, please can you explain again the reason of using the needle to drag lines over the stone? Thanks a lot.
@JessamaTutorials

It drags the clay with it and creates fine lines which enhances the faux stone effect .
