magicbyleah.com presents: Polymer Clay Mokume Gane Experiments with layers, shapes and colors
My mokume gane addiction continues. This video takes you through my step by step mokume gane experiments where I analyze the effect of layer thickness, shapes and colors for producing different mokume gane patterns.
Find additional information for this project, along with a complete supply list on my website: magicbyleah.com/polymer-clay-m...
I consider myself a beginner sculptor and this video is simply my personal take on this process.

Leah, I have to tell you that I am continually going back to your videos over and over because you appear to have such fun with mokume gane, but also because you can do some interesting things and get unique results, with just a couple pieces of clay. Thank you. It is also very easy to listen to your videos, partly because you explain things clearly but mostly because you have a pretty voice.

Thank you. I've just learned about mokume gane --- and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to try it. I've spent hours looking through a number of books, but I have to say, I learned more in this 12 minute video than all of those books!!! Thank you!

Mokume Gane 101. LoL I really like that you did thin vs thick clay and the different sizes of cutters. All of your designs turned out beautifully. ❤️ I'm probably going to go off and binge watch your channel now. 😁

At 7:23 I think thats perfect because some people either love hearts or "the opposite". With your piece you cant really see clearly hearts at the same time you still kind see traces of them, which tells you that there are hearts. I think that is a great concept, idea. Thank you for sharing this tutorial. Your work is awesome.

@magicbyleah I really didn't expect them to turn out to be so amazing! Wonderful. I have a little question, as I am a noob: I noticed when you sliced a few layers off, some seemed to have holes. Did you discard those pieces, or reduce them more to fill the holes...? Again I'm a complete beginner so I hope my questions aren't too... duh. lol.
@MagicByLeah
@MagicByLeah 9 лет назад
Mama Samosa No question is a stupid question. As for the parts with holes, because they're still beautiful I simply stacked them on top of other clay with holes and ran them through the pasta machine so they are one new solid chunk. If I found the colors bland I put them into my scrap pile for later use

kiruthika lakshmi I haven't done anything to them. This is how they look baked. You can always sand, buff, or glaze to make them shine but I like them as is

Can this thin layer of clay be attached to pieces of wood and then dried? I want to make some mermaid tail, hair sticks with this lovely decorating method.
@MagicByLeah
@MagicByLeah 6 лет назад
Yes, I've had a hard time ensuring the clay remains stuck to the wood though. If it's flat and comes off try wood glue (that's what I've used) but don't bake the wood glue. If round then the shape should help it stick
