Do you think these salamanders are the SAME or DIFFERENT species? Check out this amazing phenomenon in nature!
We'll explore polymorphism in the eastern red-backed salamander (Plethodon cinereus) by examining the most common red-striped phase, the lead-backed (anerythristic) phase, and the yellow-backed (xanthic) phase.
Thanks for watching!

Anyone else enjoy herping?

I do!!! I found one today it's Easter. I took it home I do not normally take from the wild. I can not find cap bred ones. I plan on make a native home for it, I keep plenty of foods for the guy.

Oh, go for the date. I know if I were younger (much younger), I’d be fascinated to talk about salamanders. Who wouldn’t prefer polymorphism over typical pick-up lines? Good video. Enjoyed it.

Haha, okay. Noted. I will use salamander polymorphism chit-chat for my next pick-up lines!

Just the video I needed to understand these guys! Found one and ended up hunting them for hours! My best finds were: A pure extremely bright red, and a pure bright yellow! I really want to go back out and catch some pure yellows to breed, and see if they have any more! I think its my favorite colour so far c:

You're a little creepy but I liked this video. Not much info about this species on RU-vid. I have found White-backs in NJ and Erythristics in VT but I never even heard of or saw the Xanthic morph. Does it remain yellow throughout it's entire life or does the pigment fade? Interesting.

I've found xanthic morphs very young to adult; I believe this trait remains as such throughout life.
