A lot of people seem to be thinking that they're mocking CKY but if i've learned anything from Polyphia its that you should never take them seriously. Scott is only doing the mumbly lyrics as an exagerration of the original vocalists performance. I get that its the cool new thing to hate polyphia but cmon guys.
considering CKY never took themselves very seriously either it's pretty surprising to see how many people are so angry that scott didn't know the words to the song lol CKY themselves would love this. as good as polyphia are at their jobs they don't take themselves very seriously either and it's fun to watch lol
Think, and use your brains for a second. It's clearly a good riff/good song, and i have literally never heard polyphia make fun of another artist before. Only ever heard them be funny and make jokes. Considering these facts, what do we think is more likely? Are they making fun in a cruel way, or are they having a good time and being funny?
Our vote is definitely on them just having fun. Probably playing up the fact that they personally can’t sing. Hence, no singing unless provided by a guest.
This comment section is a complete dumpster fire lmao. From CKY fans bashing Polyphia because they think the cover was an insult (obviously the vocals were a joke)...To the salty Polyphia fans that are ready to defend their prized overlords with dealing out personal insults and pretentious mental superiority. Stay classy yall!
@@mr.afrikaans1747 No the fuck they haven’t. Stop making stupid shit up. There isn’t even a fucking “they” to speak of in a band as divided as CKY. Darren isn’t even in CKY and started his own band. You are absolutely full of shit.
In early 2023, when they played this in Austin, the lyrics were, "America's band, America's band. America's band, America's band..." Lmao, I they're a crazy buncha dudes.
If tim, clay g, clay a, and Scott took their sweet time to learn this song just to play it at every concert they perform, it’s pretty clear that they liked the tune and wasn’t trying to disrespect anybody😭 y’all some softy snowflakes in these comments❄️❄️❄️
Yo, old boi here; listened to 96qbb-cky when it came out idolizing Bam, Dustin Dollin, and other train-wreck skaters. The lyrics we're kinda fucked, but I think this has gotta be some kind of joke, or they're playing a crowd request, or they're giving a nod to an influence. All-in-all, I wouldn't put their performance outside of an early CKY show and entertained me. Would love them to give it a studio try, but I doubt that they'd get permission.
If you guys like this song but never followed cky deron millers new band 96 bitter beings is currently on tour in the US and Canada playing this and all the original cky plus new originals songs go check them out all they’re songs are bangers not just this one
Okay but the way they changed up the start of the verse section was so badass. Great example of making a cover your own without butchering the original (until the vocals come in anyway lol)
Theyre having fun, and if you dont see what they are doing. You didnt grow up on CKY or Big Brother. It isnt mean to be serious. Its CKY and tbh theyre not great vocalists either 🤣😂 If people dont catch that, theyre taking this to serious.
I’ve watched this a few times and can’t for the life of me figure out how they all come in right on time facing different directions with no clear cue…
@@drainmudvayne27 lol, so dream theater is dead just because they use a click? they have been using clicks since forever. Being able to play in time should be a basic skill for every musician.
I was just listening to Polyphia. and decided to revisit 96 quiet bitter beings (90's kid lol) and it just so happens that Polyphia covered it. jeeezzz
as much as i would love them to release a cover of this idk whether it would be better with them actually singing the lyrics, them doing the thing they did for the berserk song or them doing this version the mumble lyrics
Hey for those of you wondering this seems to be an homage to CKY theyd probably get sued by whoever owns the rights to this track album if they were to perform it in its entirety. So just have fun with this track bit and rember the good times of CKY before life unfortunately happened I think thats what Polyphia wanted. For the kids out there who wernt around for it its a killer riff that everyone loves even if you dont like heavier punk/hardcore kind of music. Hope this puts it into perspective for some ❤💪
You can perform covers in a live setting without having rights to anything. They just couldn't have it on an album or live show you'd buy on a streaming platform or blu-ray
My band has a cover song on our album. It just means we pay royalties to the original owning artist or estate. It isn't much money at all that we pay and it's entirely legal. But yes you definitely can play a cover song in your live set no doubt
They wouldn’t get sued unless they used it on an album or used the original copyrighted cky recording in a movie or a commercial something along those lines they could’ve 100% did a lie cover to 96qbb without having to worry about any legal repercussions whatsoever wish they did honestly it’s one of the best riffs ever written and the lyrics and vocals are phenomenal too
I know they were playing around, but it’s actually a great example of how a click track can suck the life out of a live performance. It seems that they are afraid to sound human in any way.
The best riff is actually Rio Bravo. But this is a great one too, a little more in Polyphia's wheelhouse. I mean, as much as a repeating riff with no ornamentation could be. Good fun.
@@seriousbismuth2173 it wasn't, it was a comment on Polyphia's approach to writing riffs. They tend to ornament them so that they don't repeat the exact same material. Not always, but generally. Of course there's nothing wrong with repetition, it's one of the most powerful tools a composer or songwriter has.
i get that they’re doing a bit, but they actually individually all learned their parts, clearly they rehearsed it together, and they could’ve very easily done an actual cover! oh well still cool
I’d argue that most of the greatest/original math rock work was already done when CKY put this out. Don Caballero, Breadwinner, American Football, Rodan, Gastr Del Sol, Dazzling Killmen, Big Black, Shellac, Polvo, Cheval De Frise, etc.
This is wrong on so many levels lmao. I do get what you mean though that it sounds like a riff you'd hear from today's ""math rock"". King Crimson was the og math rock band before math rock.
With those vocals...mocking for sure. Makes polyphia come across like dickwads, jealous that they can't write anything as memorable. This type of bs isn't even original either. Seen the same thing done with bands like nirvana. It's lame and so is this band.
@@oldmanyeshomo8133 It's pretty lame to try and mock and belittle great songs and musicians. It's one thing to do a clever comedic parody like Weird Al or Steele Panther would do, but this is just childish mumble mockery that isn't clever or original. 'Having fun' or not, lame is lame and respect is lost.
I was hoping to open a comment section full of people meme-ing the vocals, or expressing that it’s pretty much what they hear from the original song. Anyone butthurt about the vocals should be able to start empathizing with actual marginalized groups. That’s how cultural appropriation feels.
Y'all are seriously beyond help if you don't realize that a) this is a jokey tribute, and not a roast, and b) Polyphia is 50 times better than CKY. I'm not even a huge Polyphia fan but they're better than a group that was popular because their drummer's brother was on Jackass. This song rips, for sure, but Polyphia are so bonkers beyond talented. Get out of 1999.
100% this right here. I love cKy so damn much but the level of musical talent that the members of Polyphia have collectively let alone individually is far superior to that of cKy. That being said I will listen to vol. 1 and I.D.R before I will listen to anything from Polyphia because I vibe with cKy songs more but god damn the members of Polyphia do make impressive music.
yeah they would totally care. the scene literally embodies disrespectful behavior and yet here you are, weeping in the comment section of a youtube video how they were mean to the band you re fanboying. go f off
@@typicallibtard7237 Nobody is "fanboying". I think they just need to take the time to learn the lyrics. They've been playing the cover for a while, it's the least they can do, because this shit does seem a bit disrespectful. Also, are you too young to say fuck? Is mommy gonna find out you're cursing on the internet & ground you from Xbox? Lol
@@CamxCam. they don't even sing their own music why would they sing any other... They are an instrumental band so don't cry just because they didn't sing a fucking music, bro
Great example of CKY bring great musicians vs. Great guitar technical guitar playing polyphia. Which band would you rather blast with your windows down driving around? True litmus test for good music
@@gnomishfajita417 he’s not. I love some technical playing, but guitar isn’t all about that. There’s literally 0 emotion or feeling in noodling. Sure, it takes a lot of time and practice to learn the stuff he does, and he’s definitely very talented. Songwriting isn’t all about that though, and there’s a reason CKY had way more fans during their peak than Polyphia ever will
@gnomishfajita417 both simplicity and simplicity are valid. Jacob Collier, to me at least, is an example of noodling when it come to chops vs song structure. Bill Wurtz is like Jacob if he kept the complexity and structure at the same time. Dream Theater is another example if we want to keep it generally in the rock category.
@@SBrown-ti8xe if Steve Vai collabed on "Remember that you die" and helped with playing god, clearly he saw something in polyphia, and tim henson went on Herman Li's twitch stream and stunned him with riffs.... you're in a goated status. Prove me wrong.
Wtf are you talking about? They like the song so they paid tribute as best they could without having an actual vocalist in the band. Some of you guys are trying so hard to hate on this band that it just looks pathetic.
Love Polyphia, just wished they would sing the actual lyrics. Or at last dont make it a mock skit. Could be some internal joke thing, i dont know:) But it looks like they enjoy playing the riff!
@@blakfloyd bro idgaf about CKY lol 96QBB is a banger, maybe the only good song and these dudes think they are cool covering the song but they are a bunch of obnoxious cunts.
This comment section is a sterling collection of 45 year old white guys white knighting a very average band that made a handful of good songs. Tell us more about how your life didn't turn out how you'd hoped it would. Guess what. The same thing happened to 90% of us but not all of us piss and moan about it.
