When Hungarian musician Miklos Both came up with the idea of going on an ethnographic expedition around Ukraine to record traditional songs, he could hardly believe the project would last more than several months. Five years later, however, the Polyphony Project has turned into the largest digital archive of Ukrainian folk songs.

Respect for your work Job Miklos, it reminds me to the 70ties, when young musicians, also Hungarian, went to Sék and Kalotaszeg, which emerged into to Tanz Haz movement that became popular in not only in Hungary, but in many countries over the world.

Just like Ukraine was ethnically cleansed by Russia, India was brutally occupied by the British Empire, which obviously has a major negative impact on the Indian identity and culture.

They aren't just cute: they are sharing what is left of their unique culture in the hopes that younger people will learn these songs and pass them on to their children. It is what tribal people in the U.S. are doing and also the Hawaiians. If we lose these cultural gifts, we will be less of what we were. I am not of this culture, but I understand how valuable the remembrances are of all cultures. Take a look at Parajanov's Hutsul masterpiece film on RU-vid. Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors 1964.

It is a miracle that this project caputured these wonderful people and their own gift of music. It is July 2022 and these villagers are sadly one of the biggest victims of this stupid invasion. Slava Ukriane

Start with Verbovarya Doshchechkva, on RU-vid A wedding song and extremely beautiful. A 5 minute internet search will turn up the words in syrilic, a transliteration and translation.

Yes, they are in the streets, but we also know that all cultures are being shoved into a corporate culture. The older folks know and love the music and dance.
