Polyrhythm Addicts is a hip hop group composed of DJ Spinna, Mr Complex, Shabaam Sahdeeq, and Tiye Phoenix.[
Put together by Nervous Records after a successful single featuring the participants, the Polyrhythm Addicts were a one-album group that united several talented New York City rappers for a collaborative project. It began when Mr. Complex put together his "Not Your Ordinary" single, which included producer DJ Spinna and MCs Shabaam Sahdeeq and Apani B Fly Emcee. They decided to release it as the Polyrhythm Addicts, and it became a big hit with the New York City underground rap scene. When Nervous saw the response, they asked for a full album from the foursome. Cut over the spring of 1999, the record was an inspired collaboration, with Spinna's old-school beats mixing well with the individual approaches of the other participants. The group didn't intend on promoting the record, so when Nervous started booking them shows following its 2000 release, the Polyrhythm Addicts disbanded. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
