Two weeks after this video was posted, a rework was announced for the Aquarion tribe. I am impressed by how awful the timing of this video was. Anyways I made a video covering all the changes brought by this new update, here's a link to it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z7mz8p-3Z0c.html
I didn't realize that was actually you! Apologies for resigning so quickly, I'm new to multiplayer and didn't check the map type before choosing zebasi 😭
thanks for great analysis! I am actually working an a rework right now. Hope to get it out into some kind of beta quite soon, would be fun to hear your thoughts on that.
Sick idea for a video: The creature challenge. 12 Crazy bots massive map with elyrion and the rule is you cant train units. You have to win with only demons and dragons.
Aquarion building ports and ships is silly. They are fish people. They have the least changed tech tree of all the special tribes. They need a complete rework of the whole naval branch of the tech tree, like cymanti.
aquarion having mermaid type units that replace the diff types of ships would be interesting. ports could be replaced with "academies" for the aquarion to learn the ways of the waters and become more specialized units (like the "scouts" learning to swim long distances away from home) or sth, thatd be rlly cool like aquarion "scouts" could have a much higher movement and range than normal scouts
@@beastysped3270 Of all the tech trees, archery is probably the least useful. That doesn't mean it's entirely not useful (there are some niche cases where it can be real nice) but they just ultimately aren't very good units for what you want to be doing early game (quickly expanding and taking space) or what you want to be doing late game (sieging enemy cities). Not to mention that Spiritualism, which is what Archery leads to, is also very useless. Overall culiminates in Hoodrick being a lower tier tribe. Certainly playable but not as useful as having a free city upgrade at the start (like you get with Imperius, Bardur, Kickoo, etc.) or having some other special trait like the Special Tribes have.
I definitely think Aquarion needs a rework in some form related to movement. Right now Aquarion is by far the least mobile tribe in the game, with their maximum possible movement range being 3 tiles and that's limited only to rammers and scouts. And it is flat out is impossible for them to move more than 2 tiles at a time on land. Personally I think at the very LEAST a small change I would make would be to allow Aquarion to use trade routes on water/ocean similarly to roads, giving their tridents the movement buff they desperately need to avoid being outclassed by knights
Ai-Mo is a lot better than most people think (I used to think they were pretty bad too). I think Vengir may be the worst now but it depends on the maptype, size, number of opponents, etc
Ai mo gets early access to the philosophy cost reduction, plus an extra monument in Altar of Peace, which only they (and maybe Xin-Xi) can realistically get. They're not top tier, but they're good.
aquarion is the most situational tribe in the game imo on water maps they're really good but on land maps they suck so they're "good" but being situational brings them down a bit
I used to play Aquarion 95% of the time before the PotO update, they were my absolute favourite tribe and I had an ELO of around 1550 so I'd say I was not bad. Amphibions and Tridentions not being able to use roads means Aquarion have become unplayable - they are way too slow on lands, can't attack, can't defend, it's absolutely impossible to conquer land. I have stopped playing Polytopia altogether and I won't be coming back until they buff Aquarion. Sad times.
@@kratos4798 Kind of - they're very fun and unique to play now, but they are not that viable competitively - poor economy (you need loads of techs to upgrade your cities), cool unique units but not very strong on water (Scouts, Rammers and Bombers are stronger than Jellies and Sharks, Tridentions have been severely nerfed, etc) and terrible on land as they can't use roads. I'm still figuring them out but unless they're buffed I can't see myself playing multiplayer again.
I dare you GullYY, (if you see this) The naval updates have changed the meta of the game to such an extent that even on Pangea maps focusing primarily on your navy you'll get pretty consistent wins (obviously depends on map size, special tribes, and doing ONLY navy is a little silly) So because of this, I have a challenge for you: Aquarius on Pangea in random multiplayer. I've done it a few times, and its very rewarding, and really teaches you to appreciate the little quirks of Aquarius and naval tech in general Unrelated Idea for aquacrop replacement in aquaculture tech: we've got bridges, why not canals? connect lakes together on lakes maps, or cities 1-square inland to sea trade routes. It'll be maybe even more situational, but it would complement bridges really well, fit an empty spot on the tech tree, and all without any big changes to the games mechanics or balance. thoughts?
Thanks for the good content. Dont know if it is mentioned. But i think if you replace roads for waterways makes aquarion faster on land maps could be an upgrade for the tribe. The speed only increase on the waterways leafing them makes the units slow again.
No joke but aquarion is god tier on archipelago, especially in maps large or above. I only play that and the only time I lose is against another aquarion or with very very very bad spawns (like 1 in 30). I am currently 1750 elo thanks to this strat
Aquarian lacks the ability To chain, but doesn’t have a crazy aoe like cymanti doomux, Aquarian deserves a rework. The crabs also can’t become boats, so no juggernaut
When you play logically like you do. Examining resources, thinking to future turns, not going for the heavy hitting units. I'm trying to learn the balance between economy and rushing to knights/trids. Lol
Aquarion is my favourite tribe now. Crabs + tridentions are such a powerful combo, and now this tribe is actually decent in the early game. Kind of like a water-based omaji.
Make aquarion defenders CRABfenders and increase their base hp or their defense, that will allow aquarion to defend their cities more easily while they keep expanding and also would give them another reason to develop the organization tree other than just unlocking farms
Reworks for all the special tribes are coming in the next few updates. That includes fixing Cymanti by making them weaker early game and stronger late game
I would remove the boats from them and create new technologies and special abilities, maybe something to link up cities from water or an ability to hide under water
as someone who's favourite tribe is still aquarion, even before they got tweaked/buffed, I am so happy this video exists and also tridentions didn't need to be nerfed twice, they really should be able to use roads so they're not completely useless with lots of land in the way it's not a good sign when the signature unit of a special tribe is arguably on par or worse than default boats
