🤩Wish I could compare all these and take notes. If I was visiting California, I'd skip their wine tours, and I'd choose ^this tour over them without hesitation! 😁👍

Iran has over 700 varieties of pomegranate in its two national pomegranate collections (in Saveh and Yazd). But the plant is considered as 'strategic crop' and the seedlings are not shared with outside world.

I'm glad I recently picked up some Parfianka and Ambrosia pomegranate trees. The Dave Wilson nursery website makes it easy to find nurseries that carry particular varieties. I now have them alternating in a 100' hedge with Wonderful, Utah Sweet, Desertnyi and Angel Red varieties.
@patrickc.6183
@patrickc.6183 Год назад
How would you rate the Desertnyi flavor and cold hardiness? I'm in 8a and currently have a Salavatski and Parfianka. The Parfianka hasn't fruited yet (seems less cold tolerant than Salavatski).

I loved this video. Would you consider doing this same type video with other fruits as well? I love to hear all about each fruit, and even hearing the 'crunch' as you bite into things is very helpful. I am planning for several new varieties of trees, and this is JUST the information I am looking for in regards to what varieties we will ultimately grow. :

I'm dying to try the parfianka & angel red pomegranates. Lately I'm eating quite a few poms of a dark purplish color that I keep being given from someone's yard that I know, with an amazing sweet/acid almost berry like taste! I don't know the variety but it's definitely not the typical wonderful variety. has such an addicting flavor

@drpk6514

The collection in Turkmenistan was gathered from a number of countries in the region such as Iran, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan. Iran still has the largest collection of Pomegranate in the world in its 2 national collections. Iran also produces the best quality and is the biggest exporter in the world. Iran is second largest producer of Pomegranate in the world after India, but Indian product has lower quality and also sometimes is even rejected by EU because of high levels of pesticides; while most of Iranian products are literally organically grown.
@ahal_gokdepe

why would Turkmenstans poms be a persian / iranian fruit? those pomegranates are a result of natural selection created by nature, not of some persians.

Considering backyard orchard culture, What is your spacing recommendation between a pomegranate, Persian mulberry and Pakistan Mulberry in a row ? Thank you again for these wonderful videos. By the way I also have a suggestion and that is posting the videos in HD quality. Thanks!
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 10 лет назад
Babak Taherian Spacing is entirely up to whatever is manageable for you. I would probably recommend at least ten feet on the mulberries. Consider trellising the pomegranate. They are very easy to sculpt and manage.

We have 4 or 5 pomegranates in our demo orchard. Two espaliered, one tree form and a couple more clump grown. We have included some pruning and training of the espaliers in our videos, but the others have required little pruning so far. But we will get to them.

Dave Wilson Nursery Thank you so much for your prompt response. I have a well established pomegranate that has not producing much in the past couple of years. I also bought a Dave Wilson grown Parfianka Pomegranate in a 5 gallon container (We Iranians Love pomegranates). I wish I could buy a larger size though but was not available. So I am definitely looking forward to the new videos exclusively about training and growing pomegranates successfully with maximum quality fruit. Thank you so much again for your outstanding educational videos.

Hello there David!!!!! I was wondering if you could advise me on how to treat already forming black spots on my early (still green, only about 2" big) pomegranate fruits on my "Wonderful"? i just planted it a week ago and they have the "spots". there were a few already on them when i got it from my local nursery- but it was the only one left so i'm trying it out... think they're fungal?

I’m curious how to get a start from my grandparents tree. I know it’s older than 65 years but still fruiting. It doesn’t produce much anymore but it receives no care at all. What would be my best option?
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 3 года назад
Best option would be to plant a new tree. You could try to collect wood from it in the early spring and graft it onto another rootstock. If you have the rootstock or some other tree you want to graft over.
@DaveWilsonTrees
@DaveWilsonTrees 3 года назад
Actually pomegranates are propagated on their own root. So you could try to grow cuttings in the spring.
