Something I just noticed: Whenever the situation was calm, Krell would refer to Rex by his CT number. But at 4:32, when they were under fire, he called him by his name. This means that Krell calling Rex by his CT number wasn’t just him not caring enough about clones to use their names, but him actively CHOOSING to be a dick.
It’s not the duress, but that fact that Rex had previously gained some of Krell’s respect. He doesn’t see them as people or individuals, so he refers to them by serial number. When Rex establishes himself as a “true captain” in Krell’s eyes, he permits him some recognition of self.
@@clearshade3560 Well, Sidious always made sure to keep those below him under his thumb, by keeping them weaker than himself. I’m sure he would do the same to Krell and wouldn’t fear him rising up against him.
Yeah we first he was going to be a good Jedi but now he's the worst Jedi like all of the Jedis we watch and we see we love them but this one is a NO...
My least favorite part about this story arc was how they basically swept it under the rug and didn’t mention it or show how anyone dealt with the aftermath.
The umbaran arc made me wonder what Anakin thought of this outrage cause literally after losing a big number of his troops i would definitely execute krell afterwards
Krell may be the biggest prick in all of Star Wars but holy heck is he cool-kinda wish we got more of him. He’s just so….LARGE and he sounds so menacing! I kind of wish umbara played out differently so that he wasn’t a traitor-just a huge jerk. Almost like the embodiment of everything wrong with the jedi order.
I'm fine with him being a prick but I wish we got to see his good side, like maybe things and people he cares about. That would make him more sympathetic. Tho I'm not sure if that would be even necessary. His crimes may be unforgivable but he has his reasons. At least him being a total prick makes his death more satisfying. He's an amazing villain in my opinion.
@@m97polska yeah, for example they could have made it so that he foresaw the 501st leading Operation Knightfall and destroying the Jedi, but went too far with his desperation, leading him to the darkside
11:40 to this day i have NO clue why this one clone decided to do a suicide run at Krell. Seriously, watch the full scene, he LITERALLY runs at Krell by himself. That part ALWAYS confuses me
Pong Krell's lightsaber sounds deeper and more menacing than the normal lightsaber sound effects and I love it. Especially when he does that roll at 11:48.
@@krxwnvxk7695no thats just his unique lightsabers sounds not ever but some force wielders have unique sounds due to having a unique kyber krystal like anakin and yodas saber. You can even hear the difference when he ignites it at 3:18 no swinging involved.
Anyone take time to listen to just how different his sabers sound? They sound alot deeper and slower. Makes them come off as powerful and intimidating to me.
It would've been cool if they had introduced him before this arc. Establish him as a jerk who sacrifices clones to get results, but also brilliant in his own way for being able to see through enemy plots. Then, when he turns out to be a traitor, it's actually a surprise.
I think they should have had him lead the droid army instead of Grievous, and had General Grievous be a one-off... With those arms and the Force, he could have done some real damage to the Jedi...
@@jayo1212as a Diehard general Grievous fan I this suggestion is one I cannot abide! TCW just shouldn't have nerfed him so bad. Pong Krell is memorable because he was on the republics side first anyhow.
My only complant about this video, is the way dialogue is cut off for other characters. I know this is Pong Krell's scenes, but I think its important to show the rest of the conversations, just for the full context
I know a lot of people hate this guy, but can't help but like him. I know the writers want me to hate him and I just think he's so hilariously evil and mean for no reason. He also has a very cool character design
I honestly believe that Palpatine put all this in motion just to see if the clones were capable of killing jedi... like a test. Krell imo seemed like a strong but reckless general/jedi. I bet he approached Palpatine and offered his services for the sith as long as he was spared fir order 66. I believe that's where his hatred of clones came from and why he was used as a sort of test to see the abilities of the clones because clones although loyal will fight for whats right even if that means fighting rogue jedi.
@@derrickdaniels3955 LOL, right?? I mean we've seen him do this to Maul to take out Qui Gon and Dooku to test Anakins strength. And If I remember correctly I believe he says something about his "new master" as well.
Pong Krell does imply that he will be Dooku's new apprentice. To my knowledge, it's never implied that Krell knew about Sideous. If Krell knew about Sideous, he would have probably attempted to replace Dooku, or at least think he could. Pong would be acting out of fear, and/or ignorance, because he would have to know that the Sith only operate in pairs, and that he would have to replace Dooku, or be disposable like Ventress.
@@right_hand_power7960 I remember in this episode he said something along the lines that his new master would train him and spare him and that he essentially saw the fall of the Jedi as well as other things. So it makes me believe that he also saw Palpatine as emperor, Dookus fall and Anakins betrayel and "Death" and approached him. Palps had to keep his existences private so I could see him killing two birds w/ one stone by basically sending Krell to his Doom while also testing the clones capabilities. Edit: Also I don't think he'd refer to Dooku as his "new master" but instead just say Dooku's name since everybody already knows him. Krell was still trying to remain secretive w/ that bit of information so it gives me the impression that he knew more than he was letting on
Yeah, it would've shown that some Jedi and Clones just naturally didn't get along even though they're on the same side, and that it wasn't black and white like they get along because they're the good guys or hate each other because one of them is a traitor. It would've gave some reasoning why a lot of Clones obeyed Order 66 without hesitation because they didn't have a strong relationship with their Jedi like Rex, Cody, or Bly did.
Ok I get that Krell was a dick to all the clones and committed a horrible act of betrayal, but he is just SO sick. Not only does he have 2 double bladed lightsabers with 4 arms, but they’re also thicker sabers than any other Jedi. You just can’t deny how cool his weapons and fighting style is
Pong Krell: Everyone's most- hated d-bag Jedi who treats his clones like cannon fodder and a traitor to the Jedi Order. Lee Everett: Everyone's favourite loyal zombocalpyse protector with a heart of gold.
"I'm afraid I can't waste any clones on frivolous adventures" 7:39 What about those times when you were willing to waste the entirety of the 501st on stupid forward assaults straight into the most heavily fortified umbaran positions?
@@billybaggins1443 well I do he is a Jedi knight and old one at that he is not even impressive if a Jedi knight is that old means that he is a horrible one since obi wan is 20 years younger than him but he is a Jedi master and on the council.
@@thephoenix4093 makes sense, I just thought with his intimidating height and with this 4 lightsabers, I was thinking maybe he would at least be a match against Savage Opress. It's a shame that no other Jedi, or even Sith, has fought against him. At least it was never seen.
Would’ve been cool to see Krell become another villain for the series, he’s got a cool combat style, and it would’ve been cool to see more of his fascination with Dooku and his attempts to become his apprentice.
I completely agree with you, the character is extremely interesting and it’s a pity that most likely no one else will remember him and he will remain just a minor villain who knew about the fall of the republic.
True, but i feel like either would wipe the floor with him. He's a bully that gets off on being stronger and higher up than others around him. Someone like savage wouldn't be intimidated, and the game krell plays is basically the one that grievous mastered. Additionally, he is a very old jedi knight, and considering most are a master by his age, and that grievous has defeated several knights at once and regularly contested masters, occasionally besting them, he's fucked.
The first time I see this guy I thought okay he's cool and it's fighting skills is impressive with two double lightsabers. But my thing is this why is he bad talk all of the clones and being a b**** and bad talk to Rex like that like they're not droids there men they're your soldiers you have to respect them. Just like all the Jedis respected their clone troopers.
legit thought the clones were giving him the silent treatment 2min in because he was behaving like a hard***. Forgot it’s just cuts to the character specifically 😆.
He embodies every asshole CO, drill sergeant, NCO, or authority figure you'll ever meet. All aggression, ego, and selfishness. For them, those who serve them could rot as long as they get what they want.
Reminder that order 66 was one of the many orders that were indeed disclosed knowledge known by the Jedi order. (not that they knew about the inhibitor chips that would force this order to be carried out). Pong Krell is a good example of why that order exists.
I like how he states that "some clones are defectove" that is dope foreshadowing. Though Krell is an idiot he is observant. Even though he never once questioned how he was treating the clones had something to do with it. He didnt think they were human enough to make their own decisions and have their own thoughts. And then how Krell says "its treason then" like how Palpatine will later say the exact same thing to the Jedi. Only difference is Krell fails and Palpatine doesnt. Krell was a jerk but he aslo was literally the only one besides Yoda who sensed Order 66, i know thats due to him being enticed by the dark side but he caught onto things others didnt even though he couldnt catch on to the trap set right under his nose. He was having too much fun killing clones that he was blinded and lured into his own demise. He couldve made it out had he stopped and turned to escape rather than chase the rest down. Then tellling the clones ALL of his plans he was not the brightest
Most likely he had students, because he is a master, it is hard to believe that he did not have students. But most likely he treated his students as tolerably, because he simply considered clones as droids, beings without their own will and choice, programmed purely for war.
Sometimes i wish they chose a different Jedi for Krells role in the clone wars. Would have LOVED to see Krell as an actual cool dude like Dexter Jettster
The author missed the moment when the killed leader of another clone army said: “It was General Krell. He said there would be droids in the clone uniform. But it was you.”
For real. Even from a newer generation, Ray did at least a few good things. She helped an injured creature by giving a little bit from "her" life force, kinda casually rejecting Palpatine legacy and buried Luke and Leia lightsabers in something to protect these powerful weapons in the place where everything started, Lars moisture farm (at least according to the second episode from StarWars)
My best guess is that Rex was cut off from Obi-Wan so they couldn't tell him about Krell and they couldn't afford to risk Krell escaping so they had to arrest him immediately
If general Skywalker was here to save his men from the traitorous Sith warrior, he be demoting krell from the rank of general and subjected to execution. Along with the two traitors: slick and the senate commando captain!
He definitely deserves a full story about himself, with his unique worldview and unique fighting technique. Moreover, he is also smarter than 99% of the Jedi, since he used strategy, and not, like everyone else, attacked the enemy with sticks.
I served with him. I used to hate him until I served with Cammander Fox and got forsaken by my own Empire. Now I miss the Old Republic and General Krell. Somedays it's so overwhelming I'm one bad day from ending up like him.
Pong Krell is the combination of Darth Maul and General Grievous, also pretending to be good so people view him as a hero when his dangerous tactics prove he's actually an asshole.
