Come along and find out how we intend to acquire the building, restore it, bring it back in to community use and make sure that it pays for itself. Do you guys have any maps or floor plans of PGI when it was open or can you draw me a rough map of it and services , I'm doing a local history project and it would be a massive help for me , plus another story for me to tell as I spent alot of time in there growing up , I don't really remember much though :(
Sounds interesting. We want to collect stories of people's experience of PGI. I have plans of the Dispensary and there will be maps of the whole PGI site. Have you tried Pontefract Museum which has a room full of historical files available to the public?
Pontefract Heritage Partnership Thanks , that's a great help I'll check there. In regards to my stories well I had alot of operations in there , Most were done while Hyde's ward were up in Northside Friarwood building on the old nightingale style children's ward but I can't remember exactly where it was in the building but I think it was in the old red brick buildings. And I had a few when they moved to Southside Building , nurses knew me by name I was in that much Hyde's ward had a real community feel to it like everyone knew each other that kind of thing. You can imagine my horror when I saw it had been pulled down when I returned to this area after many years. Was so sad to see most of my childhood memories reduced to dust. Plus staff were always amazing and cleanliness was always spot on and like I said it had a real community spirit in those walls I had over 10 operations, various tests there so it was my life as a child
