Pontefract (or Pomfret) Castle is perhaps 2nd only to The Tower Of London in the 'Sinister Buildings League', since it was so often used as a place in which to execute 'inconvenient' nobility, far enough away from the likelihood of concentrations of possibly dissentious people (such as in the capital).. I think it's a pretty sinister place, especially on a rainy day or by night. Halloween soon! Nice one Alice. 👻⭐👍
A sad location as Pontefract Castle held Richard II in prison after his removal from the Throne in 1399, and was probably starved to death in the winter of 1400.
