Dang, Erick, I absolutely LOVE how that looks...I mean amazing. The one thing I'd have a hard time getting my head past is drilling those holes; I'm really loathed to do that, but I'd almost be willing to make an exception to have a wind deflector that looks that good. I can imagine driving around on a summer night, top-down, and that deflector looking that beautiful?? I'd be the center of attention wherever I went (not that that's why I'd do it, but I would be). Well, YOU don't have to imagine. Beauty that serves a practical purpose.
It really works well at highway speed. I know there are two types of these deflectors. One is like mine and mount to the front of the firewall, and the other type slides in between the trunk and the rear of the firewall. I like this type because it doesn't affect the seal of the trunk. I really did this project on the cheap as I paid $100 for the deflector and $40 for the LED controller, 1' of WS2812 strip, and the 5V convertor.

I have an 06 Solstice, your videos have helped me greatly fixing it up. Question? Do you have a video regarding the installation of a catalytic converter on this vehicle? You should hook it to the brake light switch so it only works when you brake. But I still don’t think I could bring myself to drilling mounting hole into my Solstice! 😄
I thought the same thing when drilling holes in the interior trim in such an obvious place. I just don't trust double sided tape here, my luck would be the thing would fly off going down the highway.
I had one like that on my 08 gxp Ya it’s cool But I ended up installing a factory one The reason was I hated the reflection in the rear view mirror from the sun and headlights from other vehicles and it constantly vibrates in the wind Not a lot but just enough to be annoying in the mirror The factory mesh one in my opinion are much nicer and easily removed if you want it off for some reason But I love your channel and it’s content What year is your gxp I love the green Mine are 08 and 09 with light side tops
This car I have is a 2007. I think since it has all those miles that someone took the leather adjustable seats out and replaced them with the cloth ones. I would love to get my hands on a power seat for the driver. Thank you for the compliment. These are challenging to make, but I love doing it.
Afternoon Garage The cloth seat inst power ? On mine the power button only raises the seat mane an inch tops But it reduces leg room a lot and knee room significantly I’m six foot one and don’t use it at all other than to cycle it every fall just to keep it working But I understand your wife drives it Mine don’t 😎 So yes she may like the vertical and forward adjustment that it creates Otherwise it is just an adjustment for a short legged person as they say it’s a girls car 🤔 Which is wrong There a great sports car and I really wish they were still made It reminds me of my 1977 monza mirage four speed I had as a teenager Only quicker Some fun Only more 😎 Esc off Is way too much fun 😜

@@jeffd4056 I have a problem selling things. I generally get a really good car to begin with that hasn't been messed with too much. Then, I do things to make it close to 'perfect', and I have a really hard time parting with it. I am going to enjoy the Solstice this summer, I sold my last convertible a couple years ago.
Nice job... before you purchase a lite kit consult your licences insurer. In Saskatchewan Canada it is illegal .... you will get a ticket for Stunting.... yeah unbelievable
I remember in the early 90's I had a green neon license plate frame. It was green to match my green car I drove. I got pulled over and got a ticket for 'impersonating a police officer', maybe the cop was colorblind, but he was sure it was a blue neon frame. Here in the Portland area, I have noticed a significant decrease in harassment for car related violations. Front plate tickets are a thing of the past, headlight height, tint, etc. Maybe they are focusing on real criminals now. Good luck with your car! The Solstice is one of a kind.
Are there any issues with the windrestrictor brand that mounts between the actual trunk lid and back of the tulip panel? I would imagine it would be a tight fight while closing the trunk lid up against it after installation. Plus it's over $200 so just looking for some opinions on this brand before I buy it. Thanks!
I know there are 1/8" wind deflectors out there that mount differently. This would mean that the deflector would be outside of the vehicle? That seems like a strange place to mount the deflector. Not only that, but when I park my car on an incline, the weatherstrip keeps water out of the trunk, and it actually will 'pool' on the decklid. Seems that the seal is working good when you have that happening. I would not want to squeeze some plastic in there and compromise the seal. I think the brand I bought is the right thing, it keeps the plastic inside the car when the top is up.
@@afternoongarage yeah I'm going with V2 from winddeflector.com. I dont want to compromise the seal plus someone mentioned it could rub on the window with the top up.
As shown in the video, I got mine from e-bay. The company name is 'Deflectaire' and if you google 'deflectaire solstice', you can see that Deflectaire is being sold on Amazon. Going to the MFR's site did not produce a part number for this. I gather that these are made-to-order as they can make deflectors for many different cars with different logos etched on them. You could probably get them to put any logo you wanted on them. There are some other tempered glass versions out there, but Deflectaire states that is DOT approved poly carbonate. Just purchase the deflector and do the lighting like I did and save some money.
