Has you GM 3400 engine overheated during this summer? If so, check out this video on how to replace the water pump and thermostat on any GM 3400 engine! This was done on a Pontiac Torrent, but it's the same for the Chevy Equinox and Saturn Vue as well. It's fairly simple to do, doesn't require any special tools, and will get you back on the road again.

I’m going to try replacing my thermostat to see if this helps with my over heating I just replaced the reservoir because it broke and was leaking coolant ever where and it is still over heating so now I’m going to try the thermostat and I’m doing all of this with no experience wish me luck. I really appreciate the videos in the Pontiac

I think you can get by on the thermostat without taking the bottom bolt off if you take the radiator hose off the other end instead. I found that easier since that bolt was harder to get to. If it's just a little loose the housing can tilt and even slide off the way it's designed. Thanks for the video

I don’t have any overheating issues with my 07 equinox but the other day water started to sweep into the passenger floor. I got a non sunroof car which is weird that I’m having this issue. I only got 43k miles on it and once I sort out the leak and clean it up hopefully sell it. It’s a good commuter but I’m looking for something that that’s a bit quicker and more loaded

I have a 2007 Pontiac Torrent. Replaced the thermostat, ECT and radiator cooling fan and still getting a code ti replace the ECT. The radiator cooling fan comes on seconds after car is cranked and dash says Turn A/C off engine hot. Engine is not overheating. I took a 7hr road trip with these codes, i stopped every hour and engine was fine. I got the codes cleared a few times, but after driving a few minutes the code comes back and the a/c will not blow cold when the code appears. A few weeks ago while i was sitting in the parked turned off car I heard something going on under the hood. I got out to check and notice a large amount of coolant on the ground. When i returned home after letting the car cool, i checked the coolant reservoir and it was empty. I filled it back up and it has not leaked again. I am assuming there was some type of pressure build up that forced the coolant out. Noone can seem to find the problem.

You could have had an air pocket in the system which worked it's way out and filled in with coolant from the reservoir

I like to know if that fixed your overheating problem, i am running thru the same problem, i have replaced the cooling fans, pump and thermostat and still overheating, fans do stay on after a shut the engine off but a little while, burp the system, I am about to replace the thermostat again with a ac Delco one instead of the one from autozone

Replacing the water pump and thermostat fixed my issue. It does sound like you have something else happening though. Are you getting any coolant mixing with the oil or vice versa indicating a head gasket issue?

Hi I like to know if I can get the water pump and thermostat at auto zone if not where can i get them And also mine I need to change the belt soo any type a belt in auto zone will be fine or I gotta get a specific one.

hello brother. I changed the thermostat, coolant sensor,I got flush.it doesn't overheating but it's steady blowing lukewarm air. everything else is working normal like the fans,it doesn't bubble in reserve.only putting the orange antifreeze but I don't know why it's only blowing lukewarm barley? any help please? my truck it's 2007 Pontiac

It could be the blend door actuator not fully opening for heat, or a partially blocked heater core. You could reverse flush the heater core and see if that helps.

I had a thermostat and water pump put on and mine still overheated. It's a 2007 with 85,000 miles on it. I guess I just got a junk of a car when I purchased this car.

Probably head gasket or blown head. If it's losing coolant and you can't see it

My daughter has a 2008 and I have already replaced the thermostat and it still overheats at idle and stop lights, temp goes down while driving

Definately check/ replace the water pump. It was really cheap and is maintenance item. How many miles are on the 08?

It's a possibility. What you can do is run the car in the driveway till it gets warm, open the hood and see if the fans are running. If they aren't and you're above the 1/2 mark, then it could be the fan relay. In my case it was warming up as I was driving and the fans were constantly on, even after I shut the car off because the car was hot. Replaced the thermostat and water pump, no more problems.
