This video shows how to install the Garmin Fusion MS-RA55 on a pontoon boat helm. We talk about wiring each speaker, tying the wires into the stereo, and supplying power to the unit. The Garmin Fusion stereo line all install very similar to this model. This is a great sounding and easy to use bluetooth stereo option we use when the DeckMate Bluetooth Stereo is not in stock at PontoonStuff.com!

Thanks for the video, do you have a video on wiring up an amp to a 4 speaker system?
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons 2 месяца назад
I haven't done a video showing an upgraded stereo install with an amp yet. We've done a handful of them over the years, but it's not something super common for us. Essentially, it's heavy gauge wire (I think 2 gauge, but check with your particular amp) from the battery to the amp usually with a 50 amp breaker on the positive between the battery and amp. Then the speakers are wired the traditional way with 16 gauge speaker wire to the amp. The amp is then connected to the head unit with RCA cables, and power can be added to trigger on with a switch or when the stereo is turned on.

Loving the content. We just acquired a 'toon for use out on our west coast bays. Needs some love so your channel has been super helpful in planning our projects. Do these Fusions store/save radio and bluetooth settings after turning the power on and off via the console switch? Was playing with a Marine Sony head unit and after each power cycle, via the console switch or master battery switch, it's right back to out of the box settings. Reconnecting bluetooth or programming radio stations each time would be a drag.
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
I have this exact stereo on my tritoon and it always reconnects to whoever was last connected via BlueTooth. If you run the yellow wire, it's a "memory wire", directly to the battery which should save all of your settings. I only ever connect to my phone or have others connect theirs, so I haven't actually programmed in the radio presets. However, it seems that the volume, sound, and fade stays the same from trip to trip even though I didn't connect the yellow wire directly to power. I just prefer that everything is OFF when my battery switch is in the off position.
@socaldespenz
@socaldespenz Год назад
@@tomspontoons Just to confirm, your BlueTooth, volume, etc. are maintained even though you didn't connect the yellow wire to your battery? We're the same way, when we're not on the boat, nothing is connected to the batteries.
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
@@socaldespenz I believe so, yes. My battery switch is in the off position every time we exit the boat. I will be on the boat tomorrow night and I'll double check and comment back if it's not. I know for a fact that it reconnects to whoever was last connected via BlueTooth..."I Swear" by All4One started blaring from my phone at the marina last night because I had looked it up to play it after music trivia the night before...it was slightly embarrassing!

@@tomspontoons Sounds like it does what we need, much improved over the Sony head unit we have. And no shame in that jam, we just belted it out at Karaoke room last week, along with numerous hits/classics.

I’m wanting to add some speakers to the rear of my pontoon. Would you recommend ski bar mounted or flush mount in the skin? And which brand would you recommend.
@tomspontoons

I would imagine if you go into the sheet metal it's going to be poor sound quality and have some rattle/vibration. I have used high end JL Audio 7" wakeboard tower speeakers and Rockville 8" wakeboard tower speakers. Both were great, but if you love super high quality sound and are willing to spend the money to get it, go with higher end JL Audio equipment.

Would you go with a 6.5 over an 8 just for better fit on the tow bar?

@@justinabbott1155that’s all personal preference. A higher end 6.5” will still sound great even when cranked up!

the antenna should work as well as a external unit Im saying they are the same thing just mounted higher - if you get a strip of metal glue your antenna to it it should work much better

Should a sealant be used for the speaker wire holes? If so, what do you recommend?
@tomspontoons

You absolutely can if it’s in a spot that’ll be sprayed or splashed often. Just a clear marine grade silicone will do great!

Hey Tom. Just found your channel yesterday. It's great!. I have a question. I am buying a used toon to refurb. New seats, floor if needed, console, portapotty etc. I will use it slot in saltwater. Is there some product I should spray on the aluminum structure to help protect it? FYI I will be buying many items from you.
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons 2 года назад
Hey Mark! Great question! The product you’ll see used the most is Sharkhide metal protectant. Im a freshwater guy myself, so I’d definitely reach out to a local pontoon dealer who does a lot of saltwater boats and ask if there’s more needed. I usually see pontoons bottom painted or even powder coated for the saltwater too to prevent pitting and corrosion of the toons. I don’t sell anything directly right now, but hope to get a coupon code or something for my subscribers to use at PontoonStuff.com Thanks for watching our channel!!!

Can you tell me what boat this is in the video? We have a 99 Lowe Jamaica Suncruiser and it has the offset doors on the side like this one and I'm looking for furniture layout options as the current furniture doesn't curve with the fencing, it squares off and leaves a lot of wasted space. The layout looks a lot like this one

This boat was a fully restored Crest. The railings are an aftermarket kit that will hopefully be available soon. It’s an 8.5’ wide boat which means it needed 36” radius corner seats. These are the Luxury seats from Pontoon Stuff. They sell their Premium seats in 36” radius on their website…not sure the Luxury are available in 36” anymore. You could always call or email to check though!

@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
@@melanieking7454 Great info to have! If you have the wider radius corners (not the older style with closer to a 90 degree bend, you will likely need the 30” corner seats. Those are available in all of the styles of seats at Pontoon Stuff. Search my channel for the 30” corner seat installation to see those and the railings they match up with.

Can I install a stereo on one of my paddle boards?

As long as you have a battery and some sort of dash for the head unit and speakers…YES!

So why do you say good stereo if you're running 1 amp? Bought one for less than 100 new and I'm going to be running 2 amps, can't I just run a splitter setup.
@tomspontoons
@tomspontoons Год назад
I’m not a big stereo buff so I’m not a ton of help on that. When running an amp I simply run the wiring and items my stereo guy tells me to. Then I let him take over the final installation. All I know is that the bigger the stereo system the better your battery bank and charging system needs to be because amps and subs draw tons of power!
@htownsfinest87
@htownsfinest87 Год назад
@Toms Toons Pontoon Refurbishing yeah im not running subs they are to power the 8 fusion signature series speakers, 8.8". I picked those up for a good deal compared to JL and cheaper than skar speakers. That will be down the road maybe 4 subs 😳 but im going from 1 group 27 deep cycle to twin 31s in parallel
