Poolside Interview with Lou Wagner and Dr. Zaius of Planet of the Apes 

I love that book. His story about how Kubrick fired him from 2001 is legendary. 'I said to Stan, my public expects me to dance!'.

@@georgeash4008 Yeah, but he was lucky to not be fired from Planet of the Apes. His insistence that he also kiss Charlton Heston goodbye at the end was tone deaf.

I heard he was a slave and dr z has him chained to a typewriter in the basement. And he drinks his rustynails and throws bananas at him. It's messed up.

Oh yeah, a lot. And Jiminy Glick. And I think all three of them are absolutely sublime.

Dame Edna, Jiminy Glick and Dr Z hosting the oscars would actually get me to watch it again.

It was a lie. Dr. Z played himself. Just ask Dana Gould.

Yes, and judging by Dana Gould's response when Lou mentioned Evans by his first name, it seems Gould has no clue. An Englishman, Mr. Evans' first name is Maurice, which Lou properly pronounced "Morris" as an American would spell it. Gould comes in with the "Mo" crack, suggesting he has no clue. He's funny, sure. However, too much ego on display, desperate to dominate the interview. We barely heard from the guy who actually worked with Maurice Evans, Kim Hunter, Roddy McDowall and Charleton Heston.

I love the Dr. Zaius character and the whole persona is supposed to be a blowhard but it was borderline uncomfortable when he wouldn't let Lou Wagner tell his story. It makes me wonder if they planned it. "I'm going to keep interrupting you, pretend to get mad, etc.". If they didn't, he should have let the tell his story.

Listen, you silly fools. Dana is the only reason this exists. Lou Wagner is a dork and has no reason to be interviewed. He should be thanking Dana Gould for even letting him sit next to him.

@@Marshall_Stacks This is not Dana's podcast or venue, it's TCM's... and I venture there were a lot of film fans there that were interested in what Lou had to day (and less than enthralled by Dana's constant interruptions). And this is not an isolated incident. Dana's pretty bad about cutting in on everyone. He's a great comic but not a great interviewer (and this coming from someone who's been listening to Dana's podcast for years).
