Ikr, like literally, all you have to do is not BS people constantly, and you'll be busier than you can handle. I have worked alongside the slitheriest of snakes in the industry. It doesn't pay to be a ripoff artist.
Use a pan to catch the coolant, I fucked up, and did what you did yrs ago, a customer came out and saw her cat under the car lapping it up, just say, she lost her cat and was really pissed, oops on my part, you can literally be sued over someone having their cat or dog die over negligence, and 100% they will win. So, CATCH THE COOLANT
.................. I was at a mechanic"s shop & said his puppy was drinking coolant. He said it's fine because all companies changed their coolant formula & it will not harm pets.
My dad didn't want to take any vehicles to shop other than tires and alignment. Most mechanics where my dad took it to almost screwed up the vehicle. I was young at the time. I didn't understand why my dad never takes his cars to the shop until I work at the autoparts store during college going for a diesel mechanic AAS Degree.
"this is why you should do the easy stuff first" i literally have guys that always jump to the most, complex, expensive issues and im like "is the key turned on?" (i work with equipment/golf carts as part of my job as a department head) and the amount of times ive uttered "always start with the simple things" and still have guys that swear up and down its a blow head gasket, transmission issues etc just the worst possible potential diagnosis they latch onto and it usually is the simple things some people just will never get that.
I use distilled water, as it's usually between $1-$2. Distilled water is safe to use in your cooling system but I live in FL so don't have to worry about freezing in the engine. Good job though!
You should be catching the fluids leaking out as your working on vehicles man! It creates a HUGE health risk for cats and dogs. They will lick it cause its sweet. Its also bad for the environment & local water departments. Just invest in a cheap little drip pan bro
All modern coolants have a bitterant added. You're right, this used to be a problem, but modern antifreeze is extremely bitter and tastes terrible. No animal or person would drink it now. That said, it's still toxic and shouldn't be dumped on the ground.
Dude is so knowledgeable. I love your videos. Your an Expert mechanic. I wish you were here in San Diego. I have a really good mechanic who works on all 4 of my cars but he's not mobile.
Guess who that client will call for the next and subsequent repairs? Guess who she will mention to her friends and family for their repairs? It has a knock on effect if you are looking to grow a business following.
Yeah I'm in Wisconsin and there's a lot of shops that don't test things and guess what the problem is. I got totally ripped around and stuck like 1,300 into my car in like 4 months only to find out 2 of the 6 cylinders are like half compression. The other shops had my car for months and couldn't fix it. It's rotten when you trust the wrong mechanic and they bleed you dry and leave you screwed.
Guy swore up and down lady needed a fuel pump. Started just fine but as soon as you gave it gas it would stumble and not rev up. Found it to be the MAF, man was the customer happy.
Being a old school man and Carburetors watching your videos and seeing what you do it would be amazing to teach this old fart the new stuff with the diagnostic side of everything you're a good person and man
@@hhjhj393 I like to keep a spare jug of used coolant around for this type of thing. If the issue ends up out of a customer budget and you live in a climate where freezing could be an issue you can be confident that your not causing any extra issues that can happen from using water and leaving it in the block until the customer decides they can afford the repair or get a different car.
Modern ford and Chevy v6 engines suck too lol. They all should have stuck with their older designs and made them more efficient. All of their V-8 engines do just fine.
Who cares especially enough to comment on someone’s video that isn’t even geographically connected to you. You’re the crappy neighbor, that no one wants to talk to.
Just a little FYI... just use water instead of coolant to check for leaks... Some cooling systems require permanent antifreeze and if you use anything other than that what's supposed to be in there it will cause the fluid to coagulate plug the whole cooling system up.,.but good job.
How did the Americans get brainwashed over this. I've never seen any other nations be so propagandised into caring so much. Is it just recreational outrage?
I absolutely hate internal water pumps. Daughter bought 2007 Saturn Sky and it developed a leak shortly after. I never worked on this style before and had to buy the special tool to change it. Was nervous the whole time, but it went smoothly.
I think Atwoods in BA often times sells that same coolant, and it goes on sale for like $6 same with oil. They sell the harvest king brand which is really good if you have a leak and just need to pour in something haha.
Where’s the crying? I seriously clicked on this video thinking someone was going to flip out.. I’m glad that I didn’t see that, but it is what persuaded me to click on this video.
I'm not a mechanic or anything, but he did mention freezing temperatures, which I'm assuming if left could freeze, causing worse problems. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong .
customers like meeting mechanics that are genuine cool as dudes too. Im sure you know what i mean when you meet a guy where you can automatically tell they're just good people. Wouldnt let nobody touch my car unless i got that vibe from them.
Yo I have no idea what you’re suggesting to look at when explaining. Maybe if you had a laser pointer so you can point with than I would understand. Just an idea
Brand new subscriber here really enjoyed this video I find you to be very informative and I also enjoyed other videos in the past but this is the one that made me want to subscribe to your Channel.
I shit you not man... i went to three mechanics and only ONE of them confirmed my diagnosis.. It doesnt happen often but heres the backstory for context why i said this, i used to work for a warehouse sorting packages during night time, when i clocked out i was feeling tired, so i drove home.. in the back of my mind i was feeling that my body wanted to clock out next so i got off the freeway and onto a back road or an empty road that isnt the freeway. Good thing i did because i passed out at the wheel doing about 25mph and i hit the curb and bent the axle. There was some damage and i knew it had to be fixed... but i didnt have the time or money back then to fix it. In total i spent about 2000 bucks... 1400 from the mecha in cali (if youre reading this, fuck you.) and 600 from the mechanic in texas (fuck you too) but the second mechanic i went to in texas confirmed that my axle needed to be replaced and after i told them the hell i went through, they were pissed at the mechanic i went to just prior to them. Im not trying to bash mechanics and give them all a bad rep but when you do this to customers who need hinest people they can trust to work on their cars, you need to know what youre looking for and where to look for it in order to solve the problem. My rant aside i wanna give you props and two big thunbs up for helping a customer whod been in my shoes. 👍👍
Actually the cheapest coolant is water out of the hose. 😁🤔 Then once you find a leak drain it all out and put the correct coolant in it. Like you said you don't want to waste money on expensive coolant when you don't have to.
For timing belts I like to get them OEM, aka from the manufacturer or dealer. Too important to risk otherwise. For Honda it's branded Honda, for Toyota they're made by Aisin. Serpentine belt brand doesn't really matter. Gates is good.
The Wheep hole sits right underneath that housing housing it doesn’t drip onto the wheep hole that’s another hole your looking at you looking at the wrong hole
I think you need to change something on your settings Matt, here on RU-vid (on the tv at least) it’s a teeny tiny little picture in the middle of the screen.
Internal water pumps can leak the VQ35DE has a internal water pump and it has 2 gaskets and between those 2 gaskets there is a hole so if the gasket closest to coolant starts to leak it will drain from the front side of the engine
therese a green gasket and a red gasket on the vq35de motors, the green one sits closer to the coolant and the red one sits closer to the oil. there are two rings because you dont want an internal leak, therefore theres a hole right above the ac compressor where the coolant will WEEP out and not cause internal damage. The guy in the video talks about a weep hole half of the video man.
Nope, that visual check was all that was needed to confirm the bad parts. No robots or camera/scope needed, just good attention and eyes. The best two tools in any good mechanics box. He could've went on to do a pressure test or smoke test to confirm further, however those tools aren't usually part of a mobile mechanics set. And if they are, expect to pay shop rate or higher for a shop level service performed roadside. Value for value.
@@MrXyzasdf he saw the leak by adding fluid. It leaked from the "all that" thermostat housing. Armchair mechanics shouldn't comment if they wont accept the reply...
@@cheyennelovering5453 But he wasn't confident enough to condemn that was the case until he pulled all apart all the other components to get a better look which he did eventually. Just suggesting a borescope camera would have saved him more time. Hey you're replying from an armchair too!😂
Second video of this channel and I've seen enough. Knowing it has a leak you decide to fill with coolant in lieu of water. Then you just let it flow out on to the ground in this person's drive way. No bucket. 🤦.
You shouldn't bag out the other mechanic. You were in two minds yourself you basically said it wasn't the water pump because it's got an internal water pump and how does that make a difference. And you rebooted yourself plenty. And don't take everything for your customer says as gospel. That mechanic could have said anything to her it's just double Dutch to her.
The 3.5 in my Taurus has a similarly stupid internal water pump design. Dumbest thing ever invented. There's a high chance of catastrophic engine damage being done before someone even realizes there's a problem because the weep holes are hidden in places that are hard as hell to see. And that's only if it fails in the "proper" way. It can just fail internally and dump coolant straight into the oil pan and you won't know anything about it until your bearings are roasted.
He should have said what the problem was this time, but it will need an engine swap in the foreseeable future. When they ask why, simply point at the Dodge Ram emblem on the hood.
