True but a lot of the time people that manipulate older people like this gentleman usually got such a grip on them that the older people will actually side with their manipulator in a confrontation. It's a shit situation to be in.
As soon as i heard the "other guy" start talking i knew that he was selling the older man a bag full of sh*t. I see this all the time when people take advantage of the elderly. The old man thinks this guy is doing right by him when actually he's taking his money in vein. Sad thing is that it's NOT going to change. After Parker leaves, he'll still remain friends with him and the milking will continue.
@@dermot107 I personally think that he should have pulled the old man off to the side and told him the truth. I'm not sure what this surprise is that he has planned but he really needs to educate the old man so he can sleep at night.
A shop told my grandmother that she needed a new transmission because her check engine light was on. This was a 94’ mercury cougar. I asked her was it shifting funny or slipping? She said no. I said I would head up to the shop and check on it. He gave me the same story on the trans. I said that’s interesting, how much is the trans he said 1,200 + labor. I said sounds fair. Mind if I look at it? He said sure. I plugged into it and said “ why not instead of a 1,200 trans we replace the $30 O2 sensor and turn that cel off? Never mind, I’ll make time and do it myself. I just thought you could pick up my slack but you’re just a conman looking to take little old ladies for a ride. When you make it to hell please don’t question why you’re there!”

My Dad ran an Independent Used Car Dealership for many years. We never had to advertise because we were honest. We had a lady come in and said another shop said she needed a new motor. Only needed a tuneup. We never bs"d people we were just honest no matter what.
Iv been a mechanic for over 25 years now and have always ran my business with nothing but honesty. I see so many people getting ripped off and repairs not being done correctly. Some people should not be allowed to even own tools let alone work on a vehicle. Id be happy to donate if something is setup for this gentleman.
I owned a garage for 30 yrs and am retired now I I still to this day don't understand why people rip people off on there car repairs there is so much money to be made without ripping people every car has something wrong with and how do you sleep at night doing that to old people my first mechanic job was at a Cadillac dealer and I left there because of what they were doing to customers it a disgrace Matthew seems Ike a good guy Anda good mechanic a d I youst to do stuff like give breaks and free stuff for people that were struggling so God bless him 6:56

Now I am all in on doing something for this old fella. He is deserving of some help. I can definitely kick in some doh if you want. I'd love to come help you. I'm a 30 plus years as a heavy truck mechanic but it's not like I can jump in my truck and come down so I can definitely help financially. Im from tulsa ok and love watching your vidoes. Im a youtube mechanic and seeing people get ripped off is exactly why i would rather do my own work. You are doing the lords work bro!! Who knows how many times that old man has been ripped off from his trusty old mechanic, thats sad to see but glad u showed up to help him out!!
Not that it matters at this point, but the drive belt is routed wrong. Supposed to go around the compressor, down around the water pump, then up around the alternator. Suspect he severely overheated it due to the belt being incorrect, but too little too late at this point, and a minor problem compared to a rod knock.
That guy has 2 vehicles he says he worked on an both of them are knackered. Taking advantage of a nice old guy who got partially paralysed in his prime an now looking to retire is awful. If u pulled the guy up he would not think hes done anything wrong, i guarantee it.

Would be nice to see him get a good reliable van that is decked out for him to camp out in without having to do anything to it to sleep and live in if anything so he can travel and enjoy the rest of his time on earth. I’m sure we can all make this happen. Usually caused by lack of maintenance. My parents bought one of these new in 2000 with the 4.7 was a reliable good running Jeep..They sold it with 240,000 miles and it still ran perfect. Only issue was the exhaust manifold bolts at 90,000 miles besides that I did maintenance aka oil changes,coolant...My sister also bought a new 2004 Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 the 8 years she had it it ran great...I think its second,third owners who buy them,drive them hard and not changing the oil.My nephew bought a 08 RAM with a 4.7 also ran good,he bought it in 2017 traded it in for a then new 2021 RAM classic Hemi. I am not saying some have engine issues but they made millions of 4.7's and I never seen a bad one in my family,but I have seen bad ones as I am in the car business again lack of Maintenace, oil every 4k and it is reliable...I mean a 20 or 12 year old 4.7 even with 100k could drop a valve and who knows its history.. I was a Toyota tech and we own Chrysler and Toyota,both have issues here/there we are happy with them.Uncle owns a Chrysler dealer and my Father In-Law is a dealer principal at a Toyota dealer.I was the tech there for 18 years,met my wife there..Guys warned me not to date her lol...I dont listen,it worked out so it was all good,if not I would have been there for 3 weeks lol
So many came in for 'A bad starter' I would pull the starter hook it back up loose under the car with a good ground. The starter was often fine but the engine was toast. If the Starter was bad a new one often still wouldn't turn over the locked engine.
New sub here. When orange shirt guy started up about diesels i windered if he put a diesel engine in a gas car! Anyways i know that sound and that engine is toast. 78 and still trusting humanity bless his soul. Mr orange shirt has no shame and karma will bite him. The northwest is beautiful, Oregon Washington and Northern California. Most people dont relaize Oregon is divided by the Cascades. All east is desert all west wet and rainy. Go see bend, three sisters and of course Mt Hood. Miss those years living in Oregon. Ps for a bonus find some of the old wooden bridges!
When my uncle passed I bought his ‘91 Chevy off my aunt and it needed a transmission. My uncles “highschool friend” said he’d do the work for me. He said a friend had a transmission for sale so I paid for it and two years later I asked if the truck was ready and went to go pick it up and the truck shifted gears like it did when I left it with him and on my way home an old tire blew in pieces on the free way. I believe he didn’t do crap to my truck to fix it and if he did he would have test drove it and that tired would have blew on him. Trusted him because he was a “highschool friend” of my uncle who passed. Be careful out there folks. Always go with word of mouth when it comes to shops.
How the hell do people take advantage of people like that. Makes me sick. And some of the comments ive seen of the crap that unfolded on Saturday has just taken it out of me with humans. Thank god there are a few honest people like you that are holding what little we have left together.
Yep. My Dad and I both had AMC Jeep vehicles, one was an SUV and the other an Eagle Sedan. They were death trap money pits and we got royally ripped off. I don't trust car dealers or mechanics, I haven't found an honest or decent one yet.
There is a giant difference between condensation coming out of the pipes and a blown head gasket. It'll look like the bug truck that sprays neighborhoods. The old man's personal mechanic obviously doesn't know anything about cars.
I was a tech at a beautiful Lexus shop and got hit by a car one day riding my sur Ron to work... Had a compound fractured ankle and was on disability for over a year... The dealership changed owners and the new owners didn't give me my job back... After I got out of the hospital and came back to work with a cast on my leg to say hi I was so upset I was crying and they promised I'd have my job back... They lied and I never got my job back... Years of school and work down the drain I've been trying hard to find a decent shop to work in but they're just all dirty old POS and the mangers hardly care. I really wish I could just start helping people and be an independent mechanic like yourself.
Most of the mechanics across the USA claim Jeeps are the worst and Suburu's are the 2nd worst car worst major problems. I hope Matt can help fix that Gentleman's Car and get hime back in the road.
I just bought a new suv, my 2012 camry was low miles, but needed maintenance, sounded rough, no a/c...anywho, one of my employees wanted to buy it from me as he was having to do too many repairs on his vehicle, even offered to pay well. I couldn't handle the thought of him buying it and then continuing repairs like he was with his current vehicle. Traded it in as an auction car to the dealership. Times are tough, but no need to make them tougher.
I hope that when you surprised the guy that you will call out the other guy at some point and explain to him what really happened. Nobody needs friends like that.
Man when respect is due if your an honest man honest mechanic props to you their rare to me anyway n you always see old people getting screwed over or people that don't know about vehicles. You really started it and listened to it knocking like that. A gasket is the least of the issues. You should have immediately shut the vehicle down and told the man to contact the engine provider
The serpentine belt on that Jeep is routed incorrectly causing the water pump to turn backwards... very common mistake on the 4.7 and very easy to spot from the top of the engine as the belt is supposed to go down to the water pump between the compressor and alternator ...engine was probably overheated very badly.

Oh the Dodge 4.7 blues. I blew one, replaced it with (a rare used) one. Which blew a head gasket, I replaced them but still haven't put the radiator back in, two years ago. It's been yard art since...

My guess, mind u I'm just guessing from the character that I believe Matt has, is he's going to surprise this gentleman with a different more reliable vehicle. Maybe an inexpensive but bulletproof van or suv that he's seen or knows of.
I liked the part when the guy that did the work for the old boy was crying about the work he did on his own vehicle's and he couldn't get it right I'm sure he was wanting to get you to look at it for him that stupid guy that put the motor in the old man's jeep knew that rod wasn't going to work out he should give the old man his money back but he won't cause we know he is a SKUNK. you do good work and are honest don't ever lose that big heart you have it will get you every where go on now spend the goodness that needs to be seen
So am I right when I say that this mechanic has totally screwed over the old man??? If so the mechanic doesn't need to be put on blast but I'd definitely be calling the better business bureau or give your subscribers the name of the mechanic so that he's not able to screw more people over.. same thing happened to my grandma's in the 90s in Arkansas.. said the engine was bad which it wasn't and threw in some pos 307 out of a old Oldsmobile that was wore out.. it was fill up the oil and check the gas every time you stopped just to get it back home to northwest Illinois
People should consult a Mechanic before buying a vehicle. Any mechanic would have you avoid buying a 2.7L or 4.7L Dodge engine. A 3.7L or 5.7L it depends on condition. But for the others it's not if but when they will die. That means good used engines don't really exist

I own one of these jeeps with the 4.7 H.O. and have heard this noise and seen this shake a couple of times. Always sounds low like a rod but found its 9/10 a hydraulic adjuster collapsed and spit out a rocker. Mechanic of over 20 years here and worked in a jeep shop recently for 4 years as well as was a engine builder for many years.
