What kind of cloth do you use for your poor man's fiberglass? Is it a polyester or plastic cloth or is it a cotton type water absorbent cloth? And also do you have to use latex paint or could you have used say an external house enamel paint for your poor man's fiberglass and would that have made it better or worse and would it have affected the foam underneath?
I used painter's tarp on the PMF, but on the skin on frame kayak, I used polyester, which worked fine as well. I think you can use just about any cloth. Same with the paint. I would expect an exterior paint to work better than the interior latex I used. Thanks for the question
I was a bit sloppy in how I described it, but I did put the cloth down with Tite Bond III. Didn't dilute it though, so it still took a lot of paint. A good point for next time! Thanks for the comment
I don't know, but would suggest trying a little paint on a piece of scrap. Also, I would suggest lightly sanding the surface to remove any film. The paint will most certainly stick better to a scuffed surface.
