@@stacibayles2085 it reminded me of one of many weddings I crashed out in local square...in view of ....any way in relation to a very strange girl who stood out ..with in merriment of independent dance .....yet no one made fun of her unique style
I don’t wanna be an English teacher but I feel like this dance symbolizes their relationship with each other; she hears the music and wants to explore it, then he comes along and they “dance together”. She seems to enjoy it for a while but there’s more to explore, and she goes on by herself and he progressively gets more aggressive and wants to control her movements until finally he has enough of her antics and wants her to just sit down and behave because he feels he’s losing control of her
Your comment helps me understand this scene a lot better! So we can expect what the movie would be by this dance scene alone. It's like short yet great summary of their relationship.
@missmiawallis I saw it with my daughter today. It's not something I would have viewed on my own. However, it was disturbing, intriguing, and delightful! 1000% recommend!
I like that she dances like a toddler, which is effectively what she is. That uncoordinated and jerky movement that is mostly born of imitation rather than feeling a beat.
Toddler don't feel the beat???? And she's clearly feeling the music, which is as strange as the dance. Her brain was also developing, she's a teen at this phase.
Haha, I guess you got it. Because that's exactly what it IS. A contemporary take on a horror classic. And WHAT a horror it is! Instead of crumbling in the face of Duncan's masculine authority, Bella simply overlooks it entirely and goes on about her trial-and-error method of learning about society and the options it offers her on her own. Look at how she completely loses interest in his attempt at schooling her on how their affair should be going and wanders off to have a dance, which he then feels compelled to join in. He then tries to force her to follow his lead in the dance, but at every move, she spins it and ends up being the one controlling the dance. She's flipping the script, and no, no, NO, we can't have THAT, quelle HORREUR!
I usually abhor dance scenes in movies, but THIS was extraordinary ! Loved how Emma was able to express such childlike rapture in her movements and Mark Raffalo… wow! The way his moves complimented hers and how he unyielding vyed for her attention while they were dancing … I love what a rapscallion he was and the look of rapture on his face as he was leaning back into her arms was just mesmerizing. Absolutely brilliant.
I love how in tune she is with the music. The bazaarness of the music and her finding herself enjoying dancing to what seems every instrument! It’s brilliant, really!
I’ve always really liked Emma-from Easy A, I could tell she was going somewhere big. And she’s an incredibly versatile actress, and in person seems very much like someone I’d be good friends with.
The way Mark Ruffalo enters looking left and right, it’s like he’s saying ‘ah yes nothing to see here everyone - just my partner being completely normal 😅’ How he can convey this with his BACK TURNED is incredible
That gives me goosebumps. I see the dance as a metaphor for untamed wild women’s side of nature and the constant effort of men and society to bind it, shape it, control it.
@@salt2209this. there’s a wild beast inside all of us, methinks, and one’s self-awareness of capabilities, the good and the bad, assists us in taming that side.
When I say me and my mate were in this film pissing ourselves laughing, we had tears for a good 5 minutes from Mark ruffalos performance, it was brilliant!
Эмма Стоун здесь как никогда красива, интересна артистически. Один пронзительный взгляд чего стоит. Фильм великолепный, красочный, с хорошей, поучительной концовкой. Оскара точно достоин.
This dance sequence was one of the BEST we’ve seen in a long time, BOTH Stone and Ruffalo were ABSOLUTELY astounding! I haven’t been this into a film in a LONG time. SO many layers to what is happening here I don’t even know if the film’s creators realize how many levels they hit.
@@imanis.h.8431 her performance is so overrated😩😩😩. shes good but not THAT good. emma’s performance in poor things, literally a MASTERCLASS. if lily gladstone gonna win the oscar, it would be disaster💀💀
Did anyone notice the part where she's snapping her fingers and throwing her hands up? That was very reminiscent of the dance scene in Dogtooth. There was a similar dance move in that movie.
I can imagine the joy of someone discovering what dancing is by watching her moves!!! Mark is following her with every single funky move known in the era!!! Genius!!!
Saw this last night, she hands down is winning her 2nd Oscar for this role, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Yorgos takes home Best Director and Adapted Screenplay for this film, I feel as far as Best Director it feels like Nolan’s to lose, Scorsese will get nominated but probably won’t win, but Yorgos absolutely is in the running now. As far as Emma Stone, only Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon has any real chance of beating her. We’ll see.
She's wanting to explore the movements on her own and he's trying to control her, eventually sitting her down once he realizes how chaotic she is and beyond his control
Perfect comparison because Rite of Spring was so jarring to "polite society" despite just being another piece of music - and this film has some parallel themes about the arbitrary nature of the social boundaries that we put so much emotional stock into
@@malloryknox6802 it’s still a hair regardless of extensions. If I had my hair done up and someone said nice hair, would I respond actually it’s bobby pins?
Never heard of this film, but this is the short that made me decide I’m going to go see the film. It feels like dancing backwards, almost as if the body is disconnected from the mind. To me, it feels like an allegory for post traumatic stress disorder, I could be biased, but that’s the best thing about abstract art. What a BEAUTIFUL display of body, mind and spirit. Gold star to miss Emma for her ability to embody and capture such a thing. Wow.
I really hope they clean up at the oscars. I sometimes feel like I’ve fallen out of love with the movies but I actually realise it’s because of all the crap that gets made now adays due to the way in which we now consume media (i.e netflix and other streaming services). This film is fresh, weird and brilliant. I absolutely loved it.
I kind of felt like each person Bella met represented one or several of the deadly sins. Introducing her into the "real" world. Duncan gluttony, Max sloth, Martha pride, Toinette lust, Swiney greed, Alfie wrath and Harry envious of how she saw the world.
