This is my Poor Things Review & Reaction.
My Poor Things review, and today we are talking about the latest film to hit the Venice Film Festival, based on the book by Alasdair Gray, and the latest from festival darling Yorgos Lanthimos: Poor Things, which follows a young woman, Bella, who is brought back to life by scientist and her guardian Dr. Godwin Baxter. Initially naïve, Bella is eager to learn about the world around her, albeit under Baxter's protection. Wanting to see more, she runs off with Duncan Wedderburn, a slick and debauched lawyer, and travels across continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella demands equality and liberation.
We discuss the latest Venice Film Festival film, starring Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, and others, and we discuss the story, characters, themes & more on the latest premiere of the 80th Venice Film Festival.
Are you excited for Poor Things? What is your Poor Things review and reaction? What is your favourite Yorgos Lanthimos movie?

I don’t usually watch reviews before seeing it but I am so excited about this, Saltburn, and The Killer!! Great review my friend, got me even more excited!

Having seen the film, do you think Emma stands a strong chance of getting a 2nd Oscar? She's definitely getting nominated going by ALL the rave reviews coming out of Venice.

I think she stands a favourite right now, I will be shocked if she doesn't at the very least get the nomination. She has so much to play with in this: emotionally and physically. It's hard to deny the versatility of this role.

@@RenGeekness thanks. Also if you don't mind me asking, is the sex and nudity very gratuitous and explicit like does the camera hold too long in "uncomfortable or awkward places"??? Asking because I am a bit nervous and scared about seeing this in a packed theater and gasping and then people judging me for my supposed "prudishness and immaturity" even though I am an adult. I have seen sex and nudity on screen but it's usually just very fleeting and quick scenes and not Game of thrones level. I didn't watch that show yet for those reasons. That's why I was asking and a bit nervous about it.

@@nikitamohan3390 it is 100% explicit, but I wouldnt say it's gratuitous myself, it's a key component of the comedy and shock value of certain moments. It's never "too" long but can feel like they hold on it more than most movies would, not necessarily in a bad way, just in a "oh shit they went there" bold sort of way

@@RenGeekness thanks for the reply. Was wondering whether I should wait till it arrives on my Disney plus account next year for this reason or support it in theaters so the industry will fund more of these kind of movies instead of mediocre, generic franchise movies. Heard it's playing like gangbusters in the exclusive screenings they have been having for Academy voters in LA with many critics and viewers saying they liked it even more than the Favorite. With Lanthimos winning the Best director prize at Venice, this film could WIN SEVERAL major awards over Oppenheimer and Scorsese's Killers of the FLower Moon.

YL made 3 films before The Lobster, Dogtooth being massively popular and acclaimed (nominated for Best International Film Oscar)

But I have never seen it, so I can't offer a valid opinion on it, and therefore couldn't count it for my equation on how excited I was going into Poor Things
