Marty, it's interesting how the hammerstone produces a much cleaner flake scar vs. the horn punch. I've used candle wax to "cover" the flake scars but in a way that's cheating but I need to experiment more with hammerstone as I love the clean release it produces. I'm planning to retire the first of the year and will have more time to knap but please continue to satisfy my need to experience a bit of knapping, even if it's just watching a master like you do it. Thanks again my brother!!!!

Marty, Always much thanks for the videos, you are the best teacher on the tube!! Question for you about authentic tools…so I find quite a few sandstone’ work stones’ on my camp sites and obviously the hammer stones truly stand out. They all show the same pitting on any high spots but never do I see any signs of abrading on these tools. Also, the stones I use for abrading take on a unique, smooth, amoeba type shapes and I have never found one of them either…how was abrading done by the natives?? Was it more of a bashing movement rather than grinding motion we use???thx buddy!!!!

I’ve got examples of dished abrading stones on my Instagram. Old ones but it’ll take a while for me to scroll and find. There prevalent. Lots are discared early so they aren’t recognized. Some of the “nutting stones” aren’t flint working (dual use) tools and some are. The presence of platform grinding is so prevalent on certain sites, we know there are prepared areas and grinding is a must. Later in the process it’s way more important. Grabby flakes do well as the preform gets thinner.

I just have to say, that I love your videos... I like your descriptions, your explanations, and watching your skill with knapping... However... I think you need a tripod & different camera angle.

I’ve got a tripod but can’t do 1st person w it. This is a really low production outfit I’ve got here. If I can find my old phone holder things should get a bit better. Id just as soon have lower number but more dedicated viewers tbh.
