That moment in 1917 was pure cinematic genius. You've done it justice.

I just watched 1917 a few days ago for the first time and it literally changed me forever

SO GOOOOOD!!!

When I was a kid, my dad was a minister of a very small country church way out in rural north Mississippi. These people were "salt of the Earth" kind of folks. There was a fella and his wife who sang this song acapella. It was haunting. Listening to it took you back to the days when old farmhands sat around a pot-bellied stove on a cold night when the sun faded fast. You have reminded me of sitting and listening to that old couple sing this very song. That memory touches me very deeply. Thank you for reminding me of that time.

What makes that particular scene so powerful was the fact that Schofield thought it was too late and that they were already dead, he believed he was only seeing their ghosts. Plus if you heard a voice singing like that in the woods, would you not believe it was something supernatural?
