Popclips was a very early Nickelodeon show created by former Monkee member Michael Nesmith and produced by Pacific Arts productions. It was one of the first cable television series to show music videos and is considered an early forerunner to MTV. This behind-the-scenes segment is from a syndicated show called "Evening Magazine".

I would watch this show with my sisters on Nickelodeon channel back then, but I remember a different opening scene where there was a guy dressed like a mine in it.🤔

Considering PopClips only had 56 episodes in its run and there were 5- 7 music videos per episode as it was a commercial free program (Nickelodeon went ad free until January 1984), so we're talking a total of anywhere in the limelight of 280-392 pre-MTV music videos throughout the entire series.

I have recently learned that Michael Nesmith has died at the age of 78. I am sad, the creator of PopClips has now sadly died. My condolences to his family during this difficult time…

If I were Jack Armstrong, I would have been so disappointed that I was shut out of being on MTV--here he was, "the world's first (Part time) VJ anywhere"--and he and his Tom Selleck mustache and sometimes Hawaiian shirt didn't make the cut!

Thanks to my parents, was lucky to be one of the first in the neighborhood to have cable back in 1979 and watched Popclips as a kid (MTV didn't exist yet)... been a Pearl Harbor & the Explosions fan ever since. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JZDka84E4bg.html
