Welcome in to a collab movie reaction where I join Cassie in the Popcorn in Bed studio where she showed me the movie Hook for my first time watching! This was released in 1991 and directed by Steven Spielberg. What a wholesome feel-good happy family movie that I'm so glad I watched! Robin Williams is such a DELIGHT and Dustin Hoffman was perfection as Captain Hook. The Lost Boys make me smile and Jack and Maggie are the sweetest. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for our full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching! Let us know YOUR thoughts in the comments below!

It really does. So many years later and I still miss him, and his energy, and just how good and kind of a man he was. I feel like his death was our generation's version of losing someone like Elvis. Robin Williams was a huge Peter Pan fan. It was his favorite book and he had a vast collection of Peter Pan memorabilia. Ladies, I’m so thrilled to have you watch this treasure of a movie and love it as much as I do! I’m 64 so I originally saw this movie in my 40s, I cried all the way home. "All parents need to watch this scene." 1000% agreed, I've always liked that speech she gives him. You only have that one shot to establish a good relationship with your children (or your niblings/godchildren/etc., if that's the case) in those early years. You can try to mend things after that and start fresh, and some people do, but you never get a second chance at those special first few years.

There was always something so special and captivating about Maggie Smith as Wendy. From the moment you see her emerge in her home...her eyes and her voice tell a story; even the way she refers to Peter as 'boy' gives me goosebumps. The children's room and other details of her warm and cozy home with the subtle themes of Neverland and Capt Hook always felt magical, adventurous and enchanting. Her home itself was a character and beautiful element of the story that served as a connection and passage to a far off land, making it feel so near. All to say, Maggie and the set design of that house and how it was used and captured are simply brilliant and really brings the story to life for me and can't imagine this movie without them. Your reaction was so sweet and endearing. I thought, Cassie, hug her please and soon for all the rest of us seeing this. ☺🥰🙏🏾

I think it's because a lot of it is overly sentimental, there are a few too many cheesy moments in it that pile on the schmaltz a bit too much, especially towards the end. I don't think any actor could make us laugh and make us cry equally as much as Robin Williams. I love the score too. There was a double CD release of it a few years ago which restored the shortened versions of the movie soundtrack, added in tracks (like the end credits) which were not on the original CD release and some alternative tracks. It was a very limited release, I think only 5000 copies were made. I got lucky and managed to pick it up before it sold out.

I watched this movie all the time as a child. It was one of my favorites alongside the first Land Before Time. It was a treat seeing your reaction to this timeless classic. Robin Williams is one of my all time favorite actors. He always had a special place in my heart as a person who struggles with major depression. He had his struggles as well, and always wanted to make others smile because he knew how awful it felt to live with that kind of sadness.

About 10 years ago, I was working at a kid's program and we did a summer outdoor movie night and I put on Hook (think huge, inflatable outdoor movie screen). It was always a favorite of mine and I was happy to share it with 100+ kids, much to their delight. Sadly, Robin would pass a few weeks later and in all the sadness, I was just tremendously happy that I had gotten to share him with another generation.

Oh, thank you SO much for reacting to this movie. I ADORE this movie. It used to be my favorite movie for a while as a child. It does not get the respect and recognition it deserves. It is SO magical, the performances are incredible. One of John Williams' best scores if not THE best. Literally the only criticism I have for it is that some of the sets really look like stage play sets. 😅 They could have put a little more effort into making it look other-worldly. But other than that, I love rewatching it every time. And I cry, EVERY time... This is one of my what I call "soul detector" movies. If you really genuinely hate this movie... I want to thank you for watching Hook. This is truly my absolute favorite Peter Pan film hands and hook down. I’ve actually been involved in two productions of Peter Pan. The first one was a version that we had wrote based on the book, and I was Smee in that one. The second production I did was the actual Broadway production, and I was one of the pirates. Here are some fun facts; The voice of the pilot on the plane is actually Dustin Hoffman, which is ironic since he is Captain Hook. Also the moment that Peter chooses Thud Butt as his successor, the reactions on the Lost Boys are genuine. Spielberg and Robin Williams knew who would get the sword and kept quiet about it. So none of the Lost Boys ever knew who would be the successor. At the 25th anniversary, Dante Bosco (Rufio) as well as the other Lost Boys squeezed back into their costumes and honored Robin Williams, since he was not there to share a happy moment with them. RIP Robin Williams. 🧚✨🏴‍☠️🕰🐊⚔️💚💛💙❤️

Just a comment about Maggie Smith "always being old:" Just you watch her films from the 60s and early 70s -- The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, or her Desdemona opposite Laurence Olivier's Othello. She was heartbreakingly beautiful, and such a talent! I had the great pleasure of seeing her live on stage when she was in her 30s (Stratford, Ontario: As You Like It, Antony & Cleopatra, Private Lives), and she was amazing. By sheer chance, she walked into a hotel lobby while I was there, and was about six feet from me, talking to the desk clerk. I nearly fainted.

I saw this in theatres when I was 9 with my brother and parents. The theatre we saw it in has been closed for many many years now.. but I can still picture that evening. The theatre was really unique in the fact that it was in our big downtown mall.. and it was in the basement!! You'd enter the mall and then take an escalator down into the basement. It was a more old school, vintage style theatre and really had a certain "magic" to it. And of course it came out at Christmas time and in the early 90s cities still decorated for Christmas to the absolute 9s.. so even walking from where we parked the car to the mall entrance there were Christmas displays in all the windows, all the street signs and posts were lit up with decorations and lights and a real magic filled the air (something you just don't see anymore).. the concession in the theatre was the first thing you'd see as you went down the escalator (the ticket booth was at the top).. and it just had such a classic theatre feel to it all. I remember getting popcorn and drinks.. and then watching the movie it was amazing.. me and my brother couldn't stop talking about it.. and absolutely fell in love with it. This memory is just 100% burnt into my brain. I love watching this movie every Christmas and being able to re-live this feeling.. it makes me feel so warm and cozy and full of Christmas magic 🥰

I love it though and am glad there were more!! I love how impressive and awesome new theatres are.. but they don't have the same magic as a classic, vintage style theatre. My mom and dad's first date was going to see Star Wars in 1977 at an even more vintage, classic theatre. That same night the movie theatre caught fire and burnt to the ground. My dad always says that the date with my mom was so hot it accidentally burnt the theatre down 🤣

I had the immense privilege of meeting Robin Williams backstage during one of his stand up comedy tours. Spent less than 5 minutes with him and he met and exceeded every expectation I had of him after years of watching his movies as a child and anadult. By all accounts he was deeply troubled and fighting his own inner demons. But outwardly he was a warm, caring and loving man. That infectious energy and happiness that he portrays so well in his movies is actually only a tiny bit of what he was in real life. The world lost a great human being when he passed. This movie in particular was one of my favorites as a kid, and became even more special after I became a father. I have watched this movie with my son more than 50 times and he loves it as much as I did. Thank you both for doing this movie. I have followed both of you for a while. Keep it up.
