The Portuguese have a lot of experience with large religious events, because of the May through October once-a-month mega pilgrimages to Fatima. I was there for the May event in 1988, and the crowd control was awesome. The Portuguese military were out to keep traffic flowing. The basic reason why Syro Malabar Church lacks synodality is its bishops are too engrossed in meaningless, mythical traditions which were imposed on it from outside, both Chaldean and Latin. These bishops were chosen not because of their love for Jesus Christ or his Gospel values of truth, compassion and love. They were simply handpicked for upholding church traditions😢 Now the synod is overpowered by some blind dictators who are power drunk😢

We the faithful of Ernakulam Angamaly archdiocese will strongly reject this useless Synod of the Syro Malabar church, and the Present Apostolic Administrator Archbishop Andrews Thazhath and their meaningless decrees and useless circulars. We request Pope Francis to send us an un-biased Papal Delegate to our Archdiocese of Ernakulam Angamaly.

It is really sad that the present apostolic administrator for the archdiocese of Ernakulam Angamaly Archbishop Andrews Thazhath is insisting upon us the so-called 'Uniform mode of celebration of the Holy Mass' in an unjust way. We the faithful of Ernakulam Angamaly archdiocese will not accept and allow this unwanted and useless mode of celebration of the holy mass facing the Wall.

John, you know I like you and Elise, and I respect you. But I wonder sometimes if you don't have tunnel vision. You live in Rome. You (indirectly) work for The Vatican and The RCC. I know that The CHurch thinks that it's the ONLY institution in the world that is the presence of God on earth. But, John, for better and for worse, people -- around the world -- are becoming more and more educated (well, I don't think much of education on any level in The US -- but that's a discussion for another time). This is not the 1950s, when most Americans didn't have college degrees and were scared out of their wits re going to Hell when they died (my grandparents and my parents were among them). Today people know (well, somewhat know) the difference between faith/belief and facts. And The Church, like every other religion, has about zip, zilch and zero facts. People are also tired of having their sex lives micro-managed. Even Pope Francis, in 2013, in The NY Times, said that The Church is "obsessed with sex". //// I like to think that The Church is going through a transition and evaluation. But I think the reality is that The Church is slowly dying. And if we (the world) don't do something about climate change, human beings aren't going to be around in 100 years to see if The Church really did transition and evolve. //// There are BIG differences between Catholicism and Christianity. I think that Christianity is here to stay -- regardless of whether or not people believe in The Virgin Birth, etc. But, again -- and I'm not sure that the majority of the average people around the world are paying attention: we are in deep S re climate change and extreme weather events. The survival of the human species must come first. And regardless of how many young people attend that thing in Lisbon -- most of them won't be Catholic by the time they are 40. The Church MUST do something to come into modern times. But, of course, it doesn't want to. Why? Because the clergy will lose their main jobs. The Church is all about male power and control -- and The Church may never give it up. //// What's bugging me today? I wish I were a practicing Catholic again. I want to be able to pray to some Father God and believe that 'He' is going to 'save me'. Life is scary these days. On the other hand, I know -- and I feel -- that leaving The Church 50+ years ago was the best decision I ever made in my life. I've lived a good and moral life -- without having to worry about Hell for one second. One last thing: I've known Catholic priests all my adult life -- and some of THEM haven't bought into The RCC party line. Why? Because The RCC party line -- a lot of it is ridiculous. Love God, Love your neighbor as yourself, do good to those who hate you. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. And EVERYTHING else The Church teaches is pretty much superfluous and about power and control. And people are waking up to that.

John, How can you make such irresponsible comments about the synodality in the Syro-Malabar Church without even trying to know what's happening in the Syro-Malabar Church. Shame on your approach. I feel this channel is biased and just raising fake arguments against the church.

The problem with the Syrio Malabar Church in India is the invasive liturgical abuses copied uncritically from the Novus Ordo. Many Syrio Malabar priests jump rites into the Latin Church and are absorb copy what they see. The income is higher for them and they don't belong. Often they spout the worst waffle they learn. Rome can't restore its own rite yet it sees the corruption it caused in other rites. The Melkites and Maronites have also had their rites corrupted in the last 60 years.

Quite frankly John, I will be glad when this papacy is over.. dizzying and contradictory, a relativistic phenomenon which older people could care less about.. time for the pope to stop talking and observe some longevity of silence..
