I was that obnoxious kid in catechism class who carefully read Bertrand Russell's 'Why I am not a Christian'. The poor insurance salesman who taught the class banished me to personal instruction by the parish priest. Father Weber was a cosmopolitan Jesuit who quickly whipped me into intellectual submission. The latest news from the World According to Francis raises the question whether taking pot shots at anyone is what one wants or needs from a Holy Father in any century or millennia. Papa Bergoglio has established a bit of a public (and publicity-managed) habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time and in the wrong way; one such was dismissing the state of emergency being considered in Sweden - to deal with the riotous situation of failed attempts to integrate the huge numbers of culturally alien souls (mostly economic migrants, not refugees from violence) - that is like applying petrol to a flame. True, Pope Francis is no Ven Pius XII - a seasoned diplomat, called to the throne of Peter at a time of terrifying political chaos - and there are no jack-boots, fascia-bearing dictators, or Red Menace Molotov-cocktail stirrers parading outside the Papal State today so he does not need to scrutinise every last comma, full stop, and omission .. but a little bit of extra help in understanding the global politics that he seems to let dominate in his pontificate ..? As for firing shots to left and right, and even among his own loosely welded centre, well, such shooting at shadows, shooting at 'friends', and shooting at his own foot .. this owes more to a Bob Hope movie than a High Noon Drama; as with Pope St Paul VI, Francis disciplines only one-handedly and in one direction, he rewards with open hands and that, it seems, mostly/ only for the other direction, as for giving his feet a rest .. that might be advisable, if unlikely to happen overly soon. Keep the Faith; tell the truth, shame the devil, and let the demons shriek. God bless. ;o)

This Pope is mainly a politician and as said earlier clever sayings don't make for wisdom. Only closeness to God brings wisdom and the pope doesn't show wisdom.
