Barrio Driven is a show about being raised in the Barrio, being from the Barrio, and being Barrio Driven! Produced by Vince Romo & Herdz Media Filmed and edited by Mario A. Hernandez
I am a University Professor and I grew up in a barrio and can't change how I look, walk or talk. Sure there are moments of discrimination, and unjust criminalization, but as Mexicans we must always stand tall and continue to open doors for our gente and defy stereotypes.

Firme interview. The cruise through the hood brought back a lot of memories. Grew up in Bassett across the street from victory outreach on Don Julian. Much respect.
Please consider interviewing Moses Cuevas. Young man's got an Inspiring story, from gang life to prison and now social media influencer reaching Many around the Globe! He's changed his life around and helping others to do the same!

Hey Bro, Yo Soy de Bassett Grande, Los Noches Tecolotes (Nite Owls) seen you reffing boxing matches. I was in era Danny Psycho, Sammy Pachecha, Juan (john Di Bein), Sluggo, Bobby Sapata, Valdez Brothers, Chucky, Estrada, Trini, Bosco, Henry Lamas,I was there when Eddie Gueurra and Chucky wrecked. But ened up in the system Y.A, the joint1972, SQ 1974/75/76, Folsom 1974, etc. in the 70's, I seen you in championship bouts, and thought wow, a homie. I was raised on 3 rd ave. between Procter, and Valley Blvd. I got paroled back in 1986, on my Indian Reservation, been out every since. My kids still live in Basset Grande, right across from keenan by the Valdez, old house.
Wow, I was in Tehachipi in the 70's on a parole violation. I fell in Sacramento, on Fed, state charges in in 70's so went to Vacaville guidance center, but caught a beef ended up in W wing, until back to Quentin to Adjustment Center, and seen Sluggo, and Tomas in the upper yard when the guards where taking me to the SHU. Hey I remember Bassaett Grande was the Black Sheep of the San Gabriel Valley, but had bros from many other varrios from Y.A, and Juvi, so had back up. Until Bunky de Sangra told the others we together, dudes from Puente, Monte, Bolen, Irwa became my brothers, we rolled together in the joint.
I remember When We Were Young in a group home and popeye Ray used to come and offer us to go to the gym and he always had a heart try to help kids and and the youth find a better way which was boxing while at the same time as well respected throughout the gang world I don't know if you read these Ray but I'm happy to know that you're serving the lord with Arlene and that you guys are still together after all these years tell her I say hello she'll remember me because I was in Manuel's home in La Puente back in the days but she was always a good person as well I heard many great things about you and also was a friend of your daughters too when she used to box may God continue to bless you and yours thank you for sharing
When I was a little Kid living in Valinda the older Homeboys would party with the Homeboys from Bassett. The Big Homie Apache brought Popeye Ray to my Block.
Great interview. Thanks for sharing your story Popeye. Much respect to Vince, Popeye, Mario, and Ruthy and the HerdzMedia familia.... God bless you all....
You say Bassett Grande?? You probably know my brother's they were Puente 13 Tinflanes. We grew up in Bassett on moccasin and stichmen but my brother's ended up from LA Puente. Any how I'm glad to hear that you straightened up ur life through the grace of JESUS CHRIST.
I grew up in East LA and saw gangs left and right.. knew guys from most of the gangs..they treated me with respect as I showed them respect..the 70’s was different..more hand to hand..there were some stabbing and shooting.. but most were hand to hand… where I went to high school there gangs from all over East LA..
Good Interview Vince, Ray is a fine example of how you can be from the hood, and decide, i want more in life, Congratulations Ray and Vince both of you deserve to be recognized not only for your contribution to a solid life, but also an example for those wondering minds of our youth and or Homies that wonder, is there a way to move forward in life. Some wonder, and some do it.
Taco nazo and kris's burgers, I got my first tattoo behind the taco nazo back in the mid 90's . Richards had some good tacos too on valley. my nephews played baseball at San Angelo and played basketball at Bassett high and Bassett park.i remember dingo.
Wow I didnt know about his life. I knew I had seen him in boxing matches, he is a great referee. The guy who refereed Tyson vs Wilder 1 and some black referee who has some big ass eyes are also my favorite.
Could you please link your wireless microphone’s to this video Sir? We’d like to know the name brand of the microphone’s so we could purchase for our RU-vid channel Mr Vince Sir. Thank you ParadiseOn18Wheels 👍👍
First thing first… deep respect for Popeye Ray great interview Vince. Great advice for all young Chicanitos. The lifestyle of Latinos growing up, parents, family members introduceing to get high, be tough, buy nice car before college. The cycle never changes. Education is the key, aren’t we tired of being portrayed as convicts, gardeners, maids yes that’s right those NaZis and white collar educated baldy old men running our country have us labeled and feed us the crime and drugs in our very own barrios. That’s why prison are full of Mexicanos CHANGE
I remember when Droopy got shot. The bullet hole in the rain gutter down spout memorialized his death till recently when the market was remodeled. I remember crossing paths with Poppy at my favorite hangout locations Basetdale and Coberta.
I spard with Ray at the boys club in Baldwin park.he was I tough guy.i could never beat him.im glad that he is well.peace to you ray.may the peace of the lord always be with you and your family
Now he's a real gangsta, don't need a weapon. These "gangstas " today think they're tough because they have a gun. No, tough is squaring up one on one.
Good job this has changed since the 90 to the 2000 I call it the Tupac syndrome. These suburbs want to be gangster now but don't understand the beat down with bats side.
But in the ring, he looks normal like Benji Esteves, or others, but perhaps a little more time. I used to play rancheras in the hood on guitar, Danny Psycho had a piano in his house, and taught me how to play Night Owl on the piano, he did it good. And I stepped up and ended up playing in my Rock Band around the world, after I left the joint, I developed, a all around musician, performing on saxaphone, piano, etc, writing my own songs., but never became a millionaire rock star, I am happy with my experiences, and Ray will be a notable ref. I watched his fights, he reffed.
At one time you were on one side..the varrio side..no questions asked..now your a boxing Referee that has to be neutral and keeping the match even…GOD GAVE YOU A JOB HE KNEW YOU BE GOOD AT…
