Popoyo Outer Reef- April 2014 

I spent several months in Popoyo in 1999 and 2000, hardly anyone in sight. The waves to ourselves, offshore winds all day everyday! Attempting the outer reef never even crossed my mind though, way too gnarly for my level.

I live here and have photographed this spot for four years, it's an awesome break!

Someone i surf with quite often is in this. Red hair with the volcom sticker on his nose. Andrew. Such a great surfer.

This wave is almost identical to a reef break off Southern NSW in Australia

Tide height must really effect the wave characteristics.

How often does this place break? I was at the Popoyo main break on a substantial long period swell and the outer reef wasn't even peaking, let alone breaking.

Appears to be kind of a gnarly wave. Everyone's eating it. Well, not everyone! Awesome barrel- like Hawaii-50!

I should of went there instead of Play Negra in 1998 99 & 00. I got Negra triple overhead by myself in 98 but the other two years sucked.
