I didn't realize it was just the pin in the bracket that was causing the noise. Thanks for that! A twist on your fix - I took the whole piece off (all 4 bolts) and took it to the workbench. I cut the pin with a hacksaw to get it apart and found that the hole in the plastic arm was worn to just a tad under 3/8, so I ran a 3/8 NC tap through it to thread it. Then I ran a 3/8 drill through both holes in the bracket. I reinstalled everything, leaving it in two pieces until all 4 bolts were tight, then I threaded a short, round headed 3/8 NC screw DOWN through the top hole, through the plastic arm, and out through the bottom hole. Just slightly snug. SILENCE! Thank you for the inspiration :)
the popping sound comes from the type of check-strap mechanism they use inside to door, my Vauxhall Corsa does it , it wears inside, like u did but use the WHOLE mechanism/check-strap from a rear door from a breakers yard .
i had this problem, just wd40'd the shit out of it and everything around it, made quick work of it. no more popping even 6months later. My popping was pretty severe too.
Suggest lubing the other end of the horizontal tang, where it enters door, as those tend to develop friction (from rust) rubbing against a metal spring-like piece (i.e. the part that provides tension which keeps the door open).
omg bro tysm i deliver food and i feel so embarrassed everytime i open my door in fron of a customers house its so effin loud. i got a spare xj gonna snag its housing today :) and change 02
Lol.....Free fix? You didn’t fix the problem at all, you just waisted your time trying to do this hack job and my time for watching this video. If the sound was coming from the movement of the pin,and the pin is no longer moving but the popping sound is still there, then is it safe to assume that was not the only reason for the popping sound? Have you repaired it the right way yet with the right pin bracket and a new pin? If so Did the sound go away completely? If I’m going to do this repair I want to make sure it fixed and the job done right.
I've got a bolt in place of my pin, apparently I lost the nut on it haha. I found a rivet that fits perfectly but my gun isn't big enough D: I've tried getting a new pin at a few auto parts stores but nobody knows what i'm talking about.
