They’re literally saving lives- the majority of diamond mines are powered by enslaved and extremely mistreated workers including children (these diamonds are called conflict diamonds). felt this so hard, my engagenent ring was a super expensive family heirloom and every time i misplaced it i had a heart attack. For the wedding rings i insisted we just do silicone rings cause i don't give a fuck. I recently got engaged and bought a very pricey ring. I personally do not see the need for rings at all, my partner, however has always dreamed about a beautiful ring. Although the wedding ring was expensive, it was a gesture expressing that I will always do my best in our future as partners to make all her dreams come true. My only advise is to not overthink things when it comes to weddings. At the end of the day it should be a celebration of two individuals coming together as a team to journey through life. Anything else is just additional.

The second pair of rings are for everyday-use, usually made of more comfortable materials. I wouldn't want to do any kind of manual labor or even just wash the dishes with a-3-months-salary-worth wedding ring, let alone risk losing it or getting it stolen. As for the custom of wearing wedding rings in public daily, that's a matter personal taste.

I run a pawnshop, we sell a 50carat diamond ring for around 1,500 usd while the person spent probably 8,000usd on it. Diamonds are the biggest scam out there as they aren't worth what diamond companies sell them for.

Thank God I live in Thailand. Propose with a silver ring, wedding gift was 10k usd, 2kg gold, and lab diamond ring that cost like 3k a pair for wearing to big event, and use that 10k for honeymoon and start marriage life.

Diamonds rarely re-sell for a decent price too. Whenever I see someone brag about some diamond whatever object I roll my eyes because they're lying about the actual value. Sure you PAID that much but re-selling it will never be even close to what you bought it for. It instantly lost value the second you bought it. They just have a high markup.

I got a 20 dollar engagement ring with pastel pink "diamonds" (it was glass obviously) and it was shaped like a paw. Never loved a ring more in my life, and it didn't break anyone's bank either. Showing you love your bride doesn't have to ruin your finances. Find a pretty ring that fits her aesthetic and you've already shown her you listen and take notes of what she likes. Let's put this blame where it belongs, on the women demanding this nonsense, and who basically say, if you don't such and such, we're not getting married. Or if not that direct, they'll guilt you into the purchase by way saying that you don't love them or care for them enough to spend more.
