Despite it being kind of unfair, this fight was terrifying with the stress of Catnap being everywhere and hearing his thundering footsteps all around you
Yeah. Miss Delight and DogDay (the mini-bosses) we’re the chase sequences, where as CatNap, the final boss, felt like an actual bossfight (the type where you have to survive for a certain amount of time)…
I honestly found the final battle against Catnap to be a whole new level in how to survive, while also be terrified of what’s to come at you. Him appearing in every corner while you have to make sure to keep your guard to back him away was something that Poppy Playtime should definitely do later on. And at the end Catnap doesn’t die by us but dies by the one he trusted and served for a long time truly tragic.
An interesting mechanic indeed. I find it innovative in the experience. The idea is that you have to check which one is real and which one isn't using the flare gun hand. The sounds etc... I'm glad it wasn't another chase sequence and more of a stand-your-ground type thing. That ending where the prototype takes Catnap is so interesting to me because I'm just like, "What is the prototype's end goal?" we are only to assume he's building himself up using other parts from others he collected and the tape with different voices kind of supports it, but what if... he isn't and he's building something else? I dunno also does anyone know about the description of the tape on the Colorless Monster? In my head, I keep thinking it's a new monster we've never seen and one that might be like Huggy Wuggy and Kissy Missy only a scarier version that was never shown to the public which is why it's in the depths of the factory, etc... I'm thinking there are just some toys/mascot that was never shown and that we've never seen. This also would make it so Poppy doesn't know either and is in the same boat as us. I'm just theorizing and wondering what could have attacked Kissy Missy if its truly The Prototype or just something we've yet to encounter. This is gonna be in my head for awhile. xD
I actually really like the change in direction MOB went with the final encounters with the chapter's main threat. Instead of running through a maze of vents, or finding a way to evade the epitomy of arachnophobia in toy-form, you actually get to fight back against the threat and I LOVE it. I don't consider Huggy Wuggy or Mommy Long Legs as traditional bosses. You see them throughout their respective chapters then they chase you down a linear path. Against CatNap, though, you're pitted against a threat that's been psychologically torturing you and commanding others to the dirty work for him until he decides to confront you himself. And when he does, he chases you down at first, but then you actually fight for your life against him FNAF style. CatNap is what I like to call a more traditional boss. One that you're actively fighting against, not simply to survive, but to ensure he does not survive, let alone interfere with your main goal. Hopefully MOB brings back Huggy and Mommy for similar sequences, healed or somehow revived by the Prototype to act as agents against you and Poppy, the goal being to destroy them and make sure they can't be salvaged by the Prototype to be reused. If MOB sees this, PLEASE consider re-introducing the main bosses of these last few chapters in a sort of boss rush, more exaggerated variants of their final encounters where the player is actually doing anything to survive and further weaken the Prototype so we could actually see him and do battle against him, or die in the attempt.
Yeah like I felt dread here because you couldn’t escape to safety and pull a lever or a box but had to wait a certain amount of time and survived with each second getting harder I hope the bosses the next few chapters are like this
I dunno I kind of feel like this isn't the end for Mommy Long Legs and Huggy Wuggy. I mean yeah Mommy Long legs got crushed but also retrieved by prototype and Huggy Wuggy only fell down into the darkness banging his head (still don't think he's dead that's just me). Chapter 4 could go in so many ways, that could be the showdown between us and the Prototype OR introduce/reintroduce something that will be in our way. The way Poppy explained it, Huggy Wuggy, Mommy long legs, and Catnap served as the guardians of The prototype they stood in the way but now that they're "gone" The Prototype is straight away, what if they were not the only ones. The Prototype is either prepping OR creating new creatures for us to face. I don't think Chapter 4 will be the end. At the end of Kissy Missy's scream, I've always wondered what could have attacked her. People say "the prototype" but I think it's possible it was something else something. The return of Huggy Wuggy maybe? Or what about the Tape with the lady explaining a colorless monster that the girl saw in her nightmares. Or just something completely different that we don't know of. I'm only guessing here because The Prototype seems to be rebuilding/combining/creating something with those parts and the fight against catnap was minutes away from when Kissy Missy was attacked. Kind of interested to see where this goes if it is truly The Prototype that attacked Kissy Missy then what's in store for us when we reach the next area. Will Kissy Missy be the next creature? Or will a new creature emerge from the shadows and attack us. Just speculating here. Kind of fun to guess what will happen next, but I'm sure after the first teaser trailer drops we will be able to accurately guess what's the next chapter going to be more about. Mechanically I did wish that Catnap was more of a roamer chasing us throughout the game while dealing with other stuff and using the flare to fend it off but it's kind of unfortunate it wasn't that or the least moments where Catnap stares at you in the corner and you have seconds before catnap attacks you and the only way is flare or fleeing from the room you're in etc... Last part was pretty good honestly it was nice to see a little "stand-your-ground-" moment. Boxy Boo might also be in the next chapter seeing how we never got to see him and we did see him in the tapes. I'm just kind of interested to see where they go in the next chapter whether it is the final chapter or the next chapter to something new that gets in your way.
One, Two, CatNap's coming for you Three, Four, Better lock your door Five, Six, Grab your crucifix Seven, Eight Gonna stay up late Nine, Ten NEVER SLEEP AGAIN!
One of the best experiences I've had in a horror game. The fact that you actually fight back instead of just running away is a huge step up from the other chapters. Catnap is so intimidating, ngl the stress of having to shoot him, activate the gas, and also be careful with that hatch had me LITERALLY shaking.
I really like it how at this point, we are done running from monsters and are now more willing to stand our ground. The title itself at first I didn’t understand, is actually a reference to the first hint we get of CatNap’s hallucinogenic form in one of the first VHS tapes we find.
The final encounter and boss fight with CatNap, in which you had to fight him in Fnaf style gameplay. I am excited to see what other surprises the Mob can bring.
everyone talking about 1:20 (rightfully so) but the rest of the OST just fucking makes you have the chill down your spine like i never knew music can put you at ease like this, no joke i listened to this after i woke up knowing how it sounds like and it's like i was playing it at the middle of the night alone in my house 😭
This is a really interesting theme. For the most part it's more of an intense cacophony than a song, only once does it seem to have a clear rhythm. The intense drones, the artificial sounding screams, and the bassy percussion let the horror persist even if CatNap's nowhere to be found. It also feels nothing like the rest of the soundtrack, which could be seen as a symptom of the fear toxin. If I had to put it in a sentence it'd be: You're high... *and losing your balance*
poppy playtime chapter 3 is a masterpiece, and I can't wait to see how good chapter 4 is. if this is just one of the prototype's servants, imagine the fight against the prototype himself. probably a combination of puzzles while running from him, defending yourself from him in different rooms, and eventually leading him into a trap set up by you and poppy.
Despite how this wasn't a chase, it was still more terrifying than one. The chases meant you had to run for your life. Here, you don't have anywhere to run to.
What's interesting thing I pointed out from both OST, the boss fight itself and the comments here is that it is obviously REALLY different to what we got used to in Poppy Playtime. The mostly techno- No, mostly *noise* and slightly ambience instrumental of 'I Had a Nightmare' is much more different to usually orchestral 'Arachnophobia' and 'No More Hugs'. Really sells how, instead of running in fear, we *fight*, still in fear, but *fight*. ...I also would like to point out several things in other chase themes. Huggy Wuggy's is slow and sort of chaotic in tempo, as this is THE FIRST ALIVE THING in this goddamn abandoned place we see and it wants to kill us. Panic overwhelming, alarms blazing, chaotic drum beats, even more chaotic trumpets. Perfecto. Mommy Long Leg's is different in that, of course, it's much more fast paced. The strings and drum beats also has that spider-like motif I often point out in Spider-esque boss themes: this feeling of creeping horror. The guitar riffs (i assume) are a neat addition, too. The strings and trumpets are much more organized, and yet they still inflict panic onto you, as the goddamn plastic spider with extendible limbs is rushing at you. (note that, while I did go to musical school 8 years, that doesn't make me a pro at all, i'm dumb as hell😅. just wanted to share an opinion)
The Huggy theme is about us chased by unknown danger. Mommy Long Legs theme is about escaping the destruction with minimum chances to survive. And CatNap's theme is literally "welcome to the hell".
