Good music. The music may not be everyone's favourite since it was from so long ago. I love music from a distant different age though. I really liked them all including "Amanap la nac a nalp a nam a".

Terrific songs, all recorded acoustically with a horn & an attached needle etching the master from which the records were made. The artists made a big effort with no electronic assistance, plenty of re-takes, lots of work. Great music & bravo to them!

The record industry was about 20 years old by the time most of these records were recorded. Yes, it was still in the very early years and in about another 10 to 15 years electric recordings would revolutionize the industry again.

Andrew Barrett, not me, I seriously doubt that Guns n Roses got into this ancient music, which I really like and find very nice, but I have not known too many younger people (especially heavy metal headbanger types like Guns n Roses) who get into anything from so long ago. I really enjoy this old enchanting stuff, since I like imagining the fascinations of old bygone eras

Cynical Scorpio vampire doesn’t mean what it does today. It was closely tied to vamp, and had nothing to do with blood sucking monsters.
@ripleb6261
@ripleb6261 4 года назад
“Vamp” is a derivation of “vampire” from early stories depicting them as sexual, succubus-like creatures. The trend would be solidified a few years later with 1931’s Dracula, but the words are definitely related

Were these records released on 78rpm originally anybody out there
@pax41
@pax41 4 года назад
These recordings are my transfers from the original 78rpm records. I doubt if any of these have been released in any other format prior to the digital age. This is one reason the claims by record companies on these old recordings is bogus. They never made them available again because it wasn't profitable for them. However, with the digital age that has changed and they have gotten greedy. The same goes for the old magazines from the 1930's and before. Publishers would have never reprinted those old magazines again. However, with digital copies being easy to do, they are locking content up unless you pay. They are claiming copyright infringement if you use it, just to claim what little ad revenue they can get. I know at one time, just prior to the advent of digital copies being easily made, the law stated they had to reissue a certain number of copies to the public in order to maintain their copyright claim. I believe it stated that at least every 25 years the recording had to be released. I believe it stated a reasonable number of copies had to be made available for sale to the public. Many people don't know that Victor Records and Columbia bulldozed their vaults in the 1960's with the majority of original masters still inside. I know someone that worked for Columbia at that time this happened. He was told just prior to them destroying the vaults to go in and remove anything he thought was of any value. In my opinion this action should be viewed as them giving up their rights to make any claims on the recording. This link details some of that information out. books.google.com/books?id=3agwDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA41&lpg=PA41&dq=Columbia+vaults+destroyed+in+the+1960s&source=bl&ots=jgAwFiuUjv&sig=ACfU3U3ezaoY_OebqtEW3YuQyHQDow-UJw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiozsaw5ILqAhUDSK0KHYHaAPYQ6AEwBXoECAsQAQ#v=onepage&q=Columbia%20vaults%20destroyed%20in%20the%201960s&f=false

So the legacy of these musicians were still lapping on the shores of popular music when I was a kid basking in the Sun of the Great Depression: Billie Burke, Dennis O'dea, Dick Powell, Dennis Morgan, and,of course, Jeannette MacDonald.Thers was no alternating current in the town that Thomas Edison wired up. Hence wind up phonographs and a legacy of shellac!

Non of this was popular this was only popular in big cities and America was mostly not big city but left hanging, bluegrass was the popular music.
@bobprochko832

logawinner “bluegrass” as such did not exist. There was traditional, or “”old time” music which survived in rural backwaters, but “nice people”, meaning Middle Class or the aspirational working class generally did not play that sort of music, Ragtime was astoundingly influential. It’s influence extended far into the rural areas. The Ragtime Era craze for the (foreign - imported from Italy) mandolin survives today only in the instruments use as the foundation of the “Bluegrass” band. Many “standard” “Old Time” or later “Bluegrass” numbers originated on the Broadway of the Gay ‘Nineties; “Bully of the Town”, that important Skillet Lickers song was first featured on. Broadway in “The Widow Jones”. The Carter Family performed many popular songs of the Ragtime Era in a rural “old time” manner. Even such supposedly “ancient fiddle tunes” like Cluck Old Hen and Old Dan Tucker originated on the minstrel stage of the Gay White Way. Bill Monroe, one of the new generation of performers which rose to prominence after the Second World War was one of the first of the “Old Time” performers to write much of his own stuff.

By the way, I’ve been collecting recordings of American popular music for nearly fifty years now. I’ve come across at least a thousand collections or records which had laid undisturbed in the bottom of talking machines since they were put away at the coming of radio. This is just the sort of music that one would expect to find in any Victrola X (a modest priced machine) anywhere from Indiana south to Louisiana and East to the coast.

100--- 110 YEARS AGO...IT WAS VERY EASY TO BE A SINGER, WASN´T IT??
@bobprochko832
@bobprochko832 4 года назад
Not really. One had to be able to project ones voice to the back row of the second balcony of a 3500 seat Vaudeville house with absolutely no amplification of any kind. This required an entirely different singing technique, one which sometimes sounds odd to modern ears which are used to microphone singing.
