Dear Lydia, thank you VERY much for this useful analysis! It's the format that I like the most: it's so much easier to truly understand what is good if you get it compared with something which is worse. And please, please, please do a similar video on summer shoes 🙏🙏🙏 I get the feeling that there's something very wrong with my summer footwear, but I simply can't see what direction I should be going into without wasting money on bad stuff ( which I did last summer and deeply regret now😢 )
Love your content. You are the only content creator whose videos I watch as soon as they’re released. You have transformed my style and closet these past few years; can’t thank you enough.
I agree on the gold colour. That shade of gold on your ballet flats is often called Champagne gold. It is a lovely soft gold, as opposed to the really yellow gold. It looks very classic.
Your fashion advice has helped me transform my perspective and given me some much needed polish. I’m a petite 5’2 110 pound lady that has difficulty dressing now that I’m 49. In my younger years everything I wore was short and tight!😂 I’m so ready to dress elegantly and your tips have inspired me. Thank you!
Thank you Lydia. I am learning so much from seeing your examples of how to achieve minimal elegant looks whether dressy or casual. You keep me from making expensive mistakes. I agree that footwear can make or break an outfit.
Hi Lydia. Unfortunately, I can’t wear ballet flats or Mary Janes as I believe they look at their best on ladies who are blessed with slim ankles and feet. I love metallics but the more muted gold, silvers and bronzes. When you have ‘difficult feet’ one’s choices are very limited and buying shoes and open sandals is not a great deal of fun! I really agree with your chic choices of footwear as I far prefer simple designs and the less embellishment and fuss, the better imo.💖🌸
I’ve got what I call Flintstone feet….Fred not Wilma. My metallics are limited to pewter and copper/bronze. A little less bling to draw attention to my feet. I used to wear MaryJanes I found dirt cheap at Walmart….they have more of a square toe. Seems that particular style is now owned by a company that put designs on the them and charge $70+ for a pair. They’re cheap…house shoes.
Very helpful video, Lydia. It really does break down the shoe styles. I love that you commented that a timeless shoe style works for someone 25 to 75. I am 71 and not trying to look 25, which is why I am happy to discover your channel. I am from New York, LOVE your accent and utterly charmed by how you pronounced Adidas. Hugs🩷
Yesterday,August 1st was my birthday. I was delighted, that you stopped by on RU-vid. My BD wouldn't have been nearly as much fun without you!!!. You're the life of the party. Please, feel free to stop by anytime 24/7 ❤
Yes! Love your channel! I simply can't afford the constant cost of many of these items. It's not a flaw, still a reality. Looking good is a business, yet keeps many in debt. I still learn a lot from your content! Thanks for your insight on fashion, and quality because in the long run, owning well made pieces are key. 🎻♥️😎
thanks Lydia for sharing your tips. most of us have to do lots trial and error before finally come with the most suitable style for our own. so you really save our budget and time and thoughts by summarize the selections and provide reasons as well, not to mention saving us from bad fashion day 😁 look forward to your new videos as always
Great video Lydia. Another place to get a great one strap leather ballet flat is from Sam Edelman. I have them in 4 colors. The navy, black, white and the beige. They come in a ton of colors and even in other textures. The leather is so soft and they are extremely comfortable. Ty for another informative video. Have a lovely weekend.
Yeah, I thought she has a different idea of a block heel. And in case I find those heels elegant, while I agree they look better suited for winter because of the suede
Fabulous video. I have always loved shoes. Now that I am in my 60's, comfort is of utmost importance as well as style. Loafers are probably my most favorite style, although I did recently purchase a pair of black Mary Janes. You look stunning with that red lipstick. Thanks for always providing such style inspiration.
100 % agree to that video. Except for the mules ! To be avoided lke plague. The reason being they are a genuine health hazard. You can't seriously drive in them, there're endangering you because there's no support to the feet, they can slip off the pedals. And plenty of my friends being in medical or surgery wards confirm the high risk of falling, fracturing your leg by tumbling down stairs. And who can manage to run in them case of an emergency (a challenge, let's be honest !). Some countries issue a ticket if the police catches you driving in flip-flops, but mules as jiust as bad.
Thanks for the video Lydia! Could you do a spring/summer jackets guide? Like different types/how to style them? I really struggle at this time of year in the UK - I know I need something but find it tough to choose the right thing for my lifestyle and know how to get the most out of it! Any help would be amazing!
Shoes are a big part of your style! 1) I love metallic ballet flats but with pointy toe (more modern) and no bow for a more minimalist look. 2) the 3 straps Mary Jane has a more modern look than a single strap. 3) Avoid slides all together if you want to walk a bit.4) Adidas Samba are seen everywhere!!! I myself love the black with white sole as I have a very minimal look and always choose the shoes as focal point.5 loafers and 6) black shoes:I agree with your choices 7) I choose wider straps for summer as they are more comfortable and no heels: I actually own a pair of black wide straps and high platform sandals from Vagabond and they are both stylish and comfortable as the platform is flat all over: again that choice was made to get a focal point in my very minimal summer outfits.
I have 2 pairs of suede loafers in beige and brown, a pair of Bass leather "penny" loafers one in classic brown, the other in black with a tassel. Yep they go with it it all. agree the 3 strap mJ looks busy and are a distraction, you want people looking up not down
OMG As soon as I saw the gold ballet flats, I remembered a pair of moderately priced gold ballet flats I wore everywhere in college. Then you showed a picture of yourself in those shoes 🤯
I agree on black trainers. I bought black Sambas last year and just could not style them. I did not like how they looked with anything. Just sold them and bought a pair of tan and white Gazelles. Much happier with the Gazelles.
Dear Lydia, thank you VERY much for this useful analysis! it's so much easier to truly understand what is good if you get it compared with something which is worse. And please, please could you do a similar video on winter shoes ?? Thank you very much and greetings vom Austria!
First, bravo to the updated side part 👏 with the red lip. I'd have definitely opted for ONLY mascara (no shadow, etc) but with a touch of blush color to the lid to balance out the color of your face. Tried and true makeup rule: Either a dark eye and lip gloss or a red lip with mascara only.. never both ! Too overwhelming, especially for a day look 💯 (ESPECIALLY for women over 35) It's the classic dressing rule of if you're going to show a lot of leg, don't show cleavage and if you're going to show a bit of cleavage, keep from showing the leg 😊 Agree with all the shoes, though ! I think the tassel shoe is very classic/time, but most certainly not this time of year.. lol I'd really loved to have seen a classic Espadrille in this ! Flat and the wedge.. Btw, ladies, the low or kitten heel espadrille is definitely the way to go for spring and summer ! The taller ones that are classic, don't look so classic this year 💯 I highly recommend the Viscata espadrille (a very budget friendly is Lifestride)
Thanks for this video on Saturday morning! I always love to watch your new videos. ❤ I'm 5'3" and I wear mostly wide leg trousers with a high waist, to elongate and help me look taller. I can't wear really flat shoes because they hurt my back - I have to wear a low heel! I'm hoping you will make a video for low heels, like a inch-and-half high. Thanks Lydia, you are my favorite!
I love these kind of videos! And I think you look like you take really great care of yourself, you look so neat and healthy it was almost hard to focus on anything besides your face 😂 could we get a make up tutorial?
That first pair of black heels does not have a block heel. Your narration doesn’t make sense with the picture you’re displaying of a shoe with a regular tapered high heel. You may want to edit this bit. On the whole I agree with you about the other styles and their usefulness, and the whole principle of choosing a shoe with only one distinctive feature rather than several. (I think the word you were looking for in this or another video about shoes is vamp, which seems to be the part you were pointing out. Enjoy your content which is always informative.
What would you recommend if you struggle to buy shoes in your size? If you could only get the 3 strap Mary Jane for instance would you buy them so that at least you have a pair, or do without and just keep wearing your trainers? I'm a size 42.5 and they are so difficult to get. Most size 42s are too small for me but often the size 43 is too big and wide and slip off my heels as I walked. A couple of winters ago I ordered and returned 15 different pairs of loafers to try and find a pair to fit. I did try the M&S plain mens loafers, but they were far too wide. I did finally end up getting some but often you end up with non leather shoes or a less than ideal style. For instance the gaudy hardware that you warned against in your previous video. But then I think most of it gets covered up if you wear wide leg jeans anyway and it's so nice to have a shoe option rather than trainers even if they are less than perfect. For anybody else struggling with the same issue I have discovered Aldo shoes. However the shoes typically aren't leather.
Hi Lydia, LOVE this video!😍 This is soooo helpful as I’m trying to invest on classic and versatile footwear for Spring & Summer! May I ask where you bought the sling back in your 2nd sling back photo of you with the camel color clutch? Thank you!🙏🏼
Thank you Lydia! ❤ Please help, what kind of shoes do you wear when you want to look chic and put together but it’s raining out (not just a small drizzle)
I've never owned one single pair of ballet flats or loafers in my entire life, and don't ever plan to. Not me and they don't appeal to me in the least.
Just couldn't disagree more on those tan and black trainers. I noticed your feet long before noticing the outfit. The brown loafers with the tassels are lovely. I don't feel there is too much going on, but maybe more for the autumn winter season.
I love your style. However, I disagree with a lot on this video. I actually like the 3 strap Mary Jane better than the single strap though. I personally think the 1 strap looks very juvenile. My 4 year old and her friends all wear them. I think the 3 strap looks edgier and more grown up. I also feel like the adidas samba is out though. They feel so last summer and over done. Overly trendy pieces like that are easily dated. As seen as you look at them you immediately think summer 2023. They are like the pearl Vivian Westwood necklace of summer 2022.
Thank you for your content, Lydia! May I ask where are your white jeans from (the ones you styled with black sling backs) please? Huge thanks in advance!
