I am a cynical optimist. My cynical side revels in my depression, the graft and corruption of those in power as it validates my thoughts of their unworthiness. My optimistic side allows me to believe that there is much good in this world.

Mental Health is an odd Information Age term, and we all use it.
@TheFamousMockingbird
@TheFamousMockingbird Месяц назад
true, most of what is mental health is actually more related to societal structures and what is valued. its really just the health of society writ large, not as much the individuals. The San people (like the oldest ethnic group ever, something like 200k years old) literally just dont have a work for sad. They feel what we call sadness, but it does not need to name because it is a normal thing that everyone feels, and it does not hold a negative or positive connotation, you will find anthropological studies which have tried to research things like depression in essentially uncontacted tribes or pre-agrarian societies and its almost non existent

It seems more like appealing to the least common denominator than “the people.” If you can appeal to the least educated people, there’s a good chance you’ll have an audience. TV networks have been pumping out successful shows for decades with this strategy. Big business and the elites love that base - those are the people marketing works on consistently.

As to your point about seeing flaws in everything, we often lack the context to know how well we truly have it, so we accept the good as given and criticize the few flaws. Like going to the dentist. I am lucky enough to have insurance covered by my work and pay nothing for a standard cleaning/checkup. Same for my kids. Clean healthy teeth, modern technology and expertise, wonderful. But I get frustrated because the 10:00 appointment doesn’t start until 10:20.

ah yeah then and now is awesome. he bangs out some like 3 hour videos, but they are very very well made. the first stuff i saw was his shorter stuff also I agree what you mention about perspective and half full half empty. I do find there is space for both. I think most everyone really does appreciate medicine and pharmaceuticals, i mean they have saved my life during depression before, but the thing is if you look at every new drug approved and developed from 2009-2019 every single one of them was entirely funded and developed by US tax dollars, and then given to companies via a lottery where they abuse patents to prevent generics and hike prices that cause real harm to people. I think it is important to stay positive in the criticism, and not to fall into doomer nihilistic dread, but have the mentality of when criticizing some vague thing or whatever, make it about what actions can be done to help improve things for people and not just passively complain and not do anything at all about it dude you are spot on about the olympic thing. Like when i see people screaming about womens swimming im just like what the fuck is happening, aint nobody care about women's swimming or the wnba. tennis and soccer more fun, but seriously are we just as society going to pretend we care about womens big 10 conference swimming?

Major blonde bimbo energy but as a man. Obsessed with trivial things and quite superficial. I only know him from shorts and being a fellow brit. I noticed the wave of all these guys all at once, maybe that’s a topic idea. How they are all like caricatures of the same sort of philosophy and person. A sort of very modern philosophy sprouting out of a diseased culture. Aesthetic, cold water plunges, all that selling of ideas spiel. I noticed that the people who indulge in this content are still consuming in the consumerist way, just they’ve been tricked in quite an extraordinarily clever way because they don’t view it as actually spending money on something and getting something, so it’s unconscious and in a way possibly worse. But really, it is like going to the store, and purchasing a brain washing program. That’s what most of these guys are now. No original thought, no creativity,’just selling a box packaged idea to be stoic or to chase your dreams. It’s like, well like I said it’s like going to a virtual reality thinking booth and just downloading different trains of thought or whatever. Without realising they’re indirectly sort of selling their soul or replacing themselves with something entirely non-real, but masquerading as such. It’s hard to word directly what I mean, and I usually do terrible job. But hopefully this makes a bit of sense. Granted though, it’s much more prevalent in my age group (mid twenties) so not sure if you’re even overtly aware of it all. And Chris Williamson probably isn’t the best example, but isn’t it interesting. I watch your videos cause I feel it’s genuine discussion, you’re saying your opinion, without pushing it. With immense humility, immense emotional intelligence. Real, authentic. This is lost in today’s age. So maybe I am revealing I would like to consume this stuff in a similar way, i’d just like it to be more along the lines of Carpology, Carpoism, than this fake populist BS that gets pushed and gets all the views. But it’s weird the internet, and numbers probably lie. I’ve always known this sphere in reality is dominated by children, young adults, and the older guys, like JRE and JBP are sort of actually modelled and geared toward these age groups. We need like a real adult internet with real thought and discussion, rather than just something meaningless like p*rn. The state of content creation nowadays is just horrific, unless i’ve got cornered into some weird inescapable algorithm. But it’s like, if these guys want to succeed, they all follow the same path, and with that, originality is diminished, and with people following suit, their originality diminished. And if you’re not like that, or like that stuff, you’re outcast. Even though it’s so superficial and meaningless it’s crazy. I think, really, they’re like empty businessmen who promulgate meaningless content because they know what’s popular. And the worst of it is they don’t really have others best interests at heart, which is where the whole selling soul and money being route of evil comes into it. But, at the same token there is no denying its popularity so there could be something to that. I just wish I knew why it was popular. I think, it’s related to manipulation purposely and a sort of conspiratorial insemination of how to improve or be better, when the notion of that is so essentially fallacious in the first place. And to take heed of those instructions, just turns you into something totally devoid of any true or real spirit. Like dancing with the devil. Oh i’ve been doing it this way but I should’ve been doing it that way, what if i Like my way, what if i think your way is wrong? It’s like a war on ideas now. And with the impending nationwide repression in my home country of all this information on the internet i really wonder for the future. The internet helped me explore myself creatively, I don’t want it to dictate “correct” ways to be.

On the topic "Extinction Rebellion" and the sort. I think that the attention these actions become, will be discussed on a wide scale of existing Generations. And there for can result in different options, view points, oppinions and actions in the future concerning specific topics. The approach i think (and i am not a part of any "activist" movement or the such") there has to be a docking point... such as Opium for the Masses, keeping people in their comfort zone, keep em calm, blind... and such attempts and working tactics to manipulate individuals and so on... and thats the point... it's always been about the individual. about you, about me... we alone have the choice. and some choose to remind us about that, and also in a way, that makes us angry or frustrated :-D or just shake our heads. Thanx man from Berlin, Germany

i find myself agreeing that those oil protests and stuff cant really be analyzed properly in the moment, and decades on in the future it will be more studied as a form of direct action, because that is essentially what it is and kind of what carpo speaks of in his videos, taking action to make things better etc. I certainly have more sympathy for people in their late teens and early to mid twenties disrupting traffic and forcing a confrontation of the issue, because it's not like we found out one day about greenhouse effects and such and immediately people started smashing windows and gluing their hand to the street. It was literally 30 plus years of disinformation and propaganda from fossil fuel companies to prevent anything that might hurt their profits. I mean a lot of these kids aren't even half the age of the disinformation campaign funded by oil companies, it literally goes back to the late 1970s. If it is 2024 and we really haven't done anything, we honestly don't deserve a smooth commute in the morning. Cheers from Emmendingen!
