My favorite paradox is the Astley paradox. If you ask Rick Astley for his copy of the movie "Up", he can't give it to you because he will never give you up. However, in doing so, he lets you down. Thus creating the Astley paradox.

One paradox I believe in is when you're a good driver but then a police car gets behind you and that makes you nervous and drive poorly, then you get pulled over because you were nervous about getting pulled over.

My favourite paradox is the Pringles paradox- they say that ‘once you pop, you can’t stop’ but they come with a resealable lid.

I’ve always wondered when people talk about the odds of being eaten by a shark… are they taking into account only the people that swim in the ocean or are they counting everyone in the world? Because I would imagine those are two VERY different statistics.

My daughter went to Montessori elementary and they taught that instead of having a huge corner of toys or a room of toys for your child you should bring out 4 at a time for a few days and then rotate with another 4. It really works!… your child will play with them rather than letting them collect dust because of too many choices where it cancels all of them out👍🏼🌎☀️💙

I used to work in a restaurant. It closed at 10pm. But if no customers came in by 9:30pm, we would be allowed to close early, thus go home early. So, around 9:15pm, by unspoken rule, all of the staff became quiet, industrially doing our pre-close clean ups. Why? Nobody wanted to 'jinx' the possibility of closing early. As if talking about it would bring in a family of eight at 9:25pm. I still wonder if events occur or fail to occur simply because someone spoke it aloud, or even looked at it, or thought too hard about it. I think 'jinxing' is real.

I used to work in a hospital as a care assistant. Towards the end of the covid pandemic i took care of a polish man who was 102 years old at the time, luckily he escaped poland a few weeks before the nazis occupied his home town he ended up in England and found work as an air craft maintenance engineer he asked if he could learn to fly a plane and his request was granted and eventually he ended up flying combat sorties over the channel, on his last sortie his plane was hit and began leaking fuel but luckily did not catch fire he had to ditch in the English channel but again luckily he was close enough to the shore that he was able to make it back and a local family who seen his plane go down from the beach ran to help him, very lucky guy, and at the age of 102 he walked with out a stick, could tie shoe laces could hear fine and only needed glasses for reading and managed to shrug off covid-19 with no need for oxygen therapy or anti virals i think he must be the luckiest guy i have ever met

This is so peaceful to me for some reason. Honestly I’ve been listening to this on and off over the last few days. I listen while I’m taking a quick nap during my busy schedule. For some reason, it calms me down. It grounds me. I’m not sure the meaning of life. When I was a teenager I would have said Jesus. As a 31 year old man I don’t really have an answer anymore. Not knowing is scary and grounding all at the same time. And knowing other people feel like me is also comforting. Anyway. Thanks.

I totally get the backwards law so much because when I try hard to get a challenge completed in a video game, it almost seems impossible to comeplete because I’m actually trying, but if I don’t focus on the challenge, it gets easier

The odds of certain things happening to you depend on contributing factors. In the instance of being struck 7 times by lightning the likelihood for the average person is quite low but in the instance of the guy who was struck 7 times there were factors that made it much more likely. He had a job that had him working in open fields in an area where lightening storms are more prevalent. When it comes to shark attacks the odds are again quite low but if you’re an abalone diver or a surfer who surfs at a beach without shark nets and is the habitat known for sharks, such as Cottlesloe Beach Western Australia, the odds skyrocket. It all depends on the location and the frequency of exposure to danger with the likelihood occurring. It’s how insurance companies come up with the cost of premiums and how risk assessments are done in risk management.

One thing to ask yourself is ,”what will I be doing exactly one year to the minute you ask yourself this question. “ . Then look back one year ago and the difference between them. Feel your reaction deep inside and use that information to help make decisions.

There was a waterfall near us, such a lovely thin streak of water, like a thread but white and moving. It fell from a great height, but it looked quite low, and it was half a mile away, though it did not seem fifty paces. I loved to listen to it at night, but it was then that I became so restless. Sometimes I went and climbed the mountain and stood there in the midst of the tall pines, all alone in the terrible silence, with our little village in the distance, and the sky so blue, and the sun so bright, and an old ruined castle on the mountain-side, far away. I used to watch the line where earth and sky met, and longed to go and seek there the key of all mysteries, thinking that I might find there a new life, perhaps some great city where life should be grander and richer--and then it struck me that life may be grand enough even in a prison.

I've been struck by lightning once and luckily it wasn't too bad...just standing in my garage smoking a cig watching the rain and started feeling my hair stand up on my whole body...like your touching those Tesla coils at the science museum😅...had the worst feeling at that moment so I started slowly walking backwards to get more in the garage...and at about my 2nd step back it smacked the driveway right in front of me⚡😶⚡....body just felt like I been sitting in a hot tub for hours but thank God nothing serious...I think🤔. Must've just got hit by one of the little strands instead of the main bolt🤷.

Predicting the future has been proven to be possible.

The subject of less being better in regard to options/choices is so true. Any time I have a very large number of options to choose from in regard to anything, it overwhelms me to the point that I have a very difficult time choosing between the options. Any time I am in the store and I’m standing in the cereal aisle, men’s shampoo aisle, men’s stick deodorant section, condiment section, etc., etc., it absolutely overwhelms me and I just want to grab something adequate and pay for my selections and get out. After trying to weigh all the options by quality of product, taste or fragrance, and other attributes of whatever I’m trying to choose, I just get to a point where I stop caring so much about those attributes and just get foggy in my mind. That is when I finally give up and just, as I said before, grab something approximating the best for me and then I hurry to pay and leave so I can clear my mind. Then I’m immediately met with the overwhelming amount of choices in regard to what restaurant I want to stop at and purchase food. So it just goes on and on and on. When I was a child back in the very late 60’s and all through the 70’s, there definitely weren’t so many choices for all the different products that all of us need and buy, including food and clothing. This is why the HUGE big box stores exist now and they didn’t exist back then. The world has drastically changed since the 60’s and 70’s and, of course, there are countless reasons why that is a good thing. More choices is always better because more choices means more abundance and more specialized resources and products are available to the masses. But there is a tipping point that we reached a long time ago on which the number of choices of most all products became overwhelming and disconcerting. A trip to the grocery store just isn’t what it used to be. The overabundance of choices is good in some ways and terrible in other ways, just as I said above and the video pointed out. So much is so stressful to have to deal with and even the simplest decisions have become very stressful and difficult because the number of choices is just too many. I’m incredibly thankful that I live in a place where everything is abundant and there are MANY choices, but the tipping point was reached a long time ago and the stress level in so many people is such that it has caused the majority of people to lose their inner peace and they don’t even realize it.

Our fears of something are rational though, for instance, in the video you said you’re more likely to get killed by a dog than you are a shark, but that’s because the ratio of humans around dogs and humans around sharks are drastically different. Ratios have many factors, you’re only considering one side.

This video motivates me to keep doing what brings me joy with every breath. Being kind, while brutally transparent is what freedom feels like. I am extremely lucky to be in this life I've been given/created for myself. My family, friends, and partner are not "perfect." Neither am I. It's a beautiful thing to finally be on the other side of depression. All the clichés about knowing yourself first are true. But we are constantly adjusting and revising ourselves. I try to give myself and others more grace because none of us are finished products. Most things are subjective. So figure out what you care about, rather than following another person's beliefs. Look for the common thread in your joyful moments.

He said a motorcycle rider is less likely to die in a crash than someone in a car. Motorcycle riders are 30 time more likely to die. The average person is less likely to die on a bike because few people ride motorcycles compared to cars. These details make all the difference. Google got it wrong too; but everyone, do better.

I believe that paradoxes in nature are currently the most logical place to study if we want to progress our understanding of the universe. They haunt every field consistently, fields which are not always consistent or compatible with each other besides their share of unwanted paradoxes.

I had a small piece of paper under my desk mat in my room in 6th grade that read, “if you want peace, prepare for war.” because of a history teacher I had. I learned that quote and that’s the only thing I remember from that class. Mr. Mott was his name. He got my interested in history. Great teacher. That was back in ‘01. I still say this quote today joking with my kids during our nerf battles. Excellent video man, every one of these videos made me think. I really appreciate your content. Thank you.

Aperture, you create the coolest videos, I am 65 years 11 months and 4 days on earth, I traveled to 22 states plus Canada seem more cities than I can remember I enjoy videos it has become a hobby to watch you-tube videos since I do not need to work, I had a long Career from 1978 to 2015 then retired we all have different goals in life for me it was the ability to be able to watch you-tube videos without being told get back to work, I enjoy watching videos my money situation is automatic deposited my bills automatically paid everything paid off. I pretty much done all I set out to do in my almost 66 years of living my life. I already received over $1 Million dollars going onto 2 million dollars I discover the less I work the more money I ended up receiving. I drove to many places was in 3 wrecks not really that bad just ruin the vehicles. I can walk, see hear think function very well for my age. That what I give thanks for in life. Life is as fun as one makes it to be. Thanks for all your cool videos.

I don't know the probabilities, but I absorbed my twin in my moms belly, born 2 months too early, had to be recucitated at birth, born half in an ambulance, half in hospital, have central heterochromia, and I was born under new moon. My life is a disaster after disaster, but grateful to be here alive.

I figured during college the exact idea you described of working on what you love, enjoy and makes me smile, and that is still my source of.happiness, I wake up almost every day with a smile. Heads up thou, if you work doing what you love under another person or company is the tricky part, because you will be giving more than what your job description includes, you will be very good at what you do, and will work extra time for free, and that is not right, do not overlook the worth of your work nor give it for free, many will try or succeed at taking advantage of a employee that loves what they do, and it is hard to realize sometimes when it is happening or had been happening for a long time.... Just trying to help others to protect the source of their happiness and share my case... Loved your video btw!

Live your life and don't take it too seriously. Don't compare your experience with anyone else's. We exist like the blink of an eye. Everything matters but the paradox is that simultaneously, nothing really matters. Edit: my personal philosophy is that life isn't about me. And it never has been. It's collective in nature and while we are granted to be here, we need to be good. Only a very small percentage of people actually do anything to induce progress in our species.

I really liked the breakdown of how much of our 79-ish years of life are actually ours to enjoy... especially the last bit about multitasking meals with friends or enjoying a book or podcast on your commute and finding a career and friend group you actually enjoy. I'm 43 years old, I moved across 9 states last year, I'm placing my mom in a care home due to dementia and my inability to care for her at home alone after doing so for 18 years, I'm quitting 12 yrars at a job I hate with lazy, incompetent coworkers and taking a risk in a different industry, I have found a new friend group I really like and we go out twice a week (and many of them already work at my new workplace) I've struggled with depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation for over 35 years, but I'm finally feeling that my life is improving. So, long story short, I'm hoping to salvage at least a few of the 36-ish years I have left by enjoying my life more instead of thinking the only escape from my misery is taking the "final exit"

Lightning will always give you what you want or something better with a delay. The only thing that seperates real life from a dream is that in a dream when you go lucid and you intend to experience something, it just appears immediately. In Finding Nemo, Marlin loses his son. He is caught by a fisherman uh or a scientist and he's like taken away on a boat and the point of the movie is that we're trying to find Nemo. That's what Marlin wants to find. His son. Now the problem here is that Marlin doesn't know how to find his son but he just knows Beyond The Shred of a doubt that he's going to find his son because he's a dad and he lost his only son. So his whole life he knows for a fact, his heart and his mind have come into Union, they've both agreed that 100% we're going to find our son but I don't know how. So this is the same for you with your goal. You want something 100% for sure without a doubt but I don't know how I'm going to get it. That's okay normally you don't have to know how to get something. All you need to know is the first step. This is exactly how reality creation works. You hold your goal (P Sherman 42 Wallaby Way Sydney) in your mind and then you trust that the universe is going to take you there in its own mysterious way. Trust the universe that it's going to bring you to your goal but you won't know how. On the surface it's going to seem like everything is falling apart but once you look back you're going to say oh I actually needed to go through that failure because now I'm successful but I couldn't have been successful without that failure. You say oh this is going to bring me to my goal and you just kind of affirm to yourself that the Universe looks out for me and that the universe is on my team and is helping me manifest what I want. You want to be like Dory. You want to have radical trust in the universe and you want to hold in your mind your vision. That's why she keeps repeating P Sherman 42 Wallaby Way Sydney over and over again. Hold your vision in mind and trust that whatever happens you're gonna be brought there. That's how you create your reality using your imagination. Go after your goal in the same way that you go to get the post from the letterbox. Stop imagining the post to be a problem and simply put one foot in front of the other in the direction of the letterbox. I am 64, and I have never been attacked by a vending machine. But once in Florida, fish started jumping out of the water, and I made all the children get out of the water. They weren't happy. The next morning, we found out just a mile further up the beach a boy was attacked by a shark. I think the shark went right past us. I was also an animal shelter director and work for veterinarian for many years. I was attacked once but not killed. See, the shark is winning. 😊 Do not drink or drive at night. I am telling you this shark almost got us. I live on a lake, if fish are jumping, somethingn is chasing them.

Not sure I've ever seen a video so depressing, yet so invigorating and motivating all wrapped into one. Well done. The best part about this is it truly brings light to how important perspective is, what we perceive as valuable in turn has the most profound effect on our lives. Get out of that rat race, go enjoy your life time, take the time to see those you love, work on those creative projects you want to finish, read that book you thought was interesting, go learn, be curious and be good to one another.

One paradox I never hear anyone talk about is the saying "there's an exception to every rule." That phrase is also a rule, therefore there must an exception to it. So then there is a rule without exception, which means there can't be an exception to every rule. The same applies if you say "nothing is true" or "everything is false"

The guy who got hit by lighting probably worked outdoors in the wilderness where he couldn't easily get to safety. His chances of being hit 7 times are much higher than someone who works an office job.

The problem with these probabilities you give is it depends on your lifestyle. If i surf everyday, I am more likely to be attacked by a shark because I put myself in that situation. If i never enter the ocean in my life then there is an extremely small percentage chance that I ever get attacked/killed by a shark. Same with lighting, if i spend all day in my house my chances are lowered. How is one going to accurately measure these probabilities.

The car crash one weirdly has brought me a little comfort even though the numbers as fairly high. I have severe PTSD with cars, car crashes, and death so this shows me it’s just as likely to happen to me as it is to anyone else.

great ambient music i love it it reminds me when i was a child i used to admire games or movies about the future and like humans move to space and explore the unknown its so amazing how a simple music can remind u how was childhood so much fun that adulthood like experiencing the halo series for the first time or that strange movie star trek moving so fast toward space such a masterpiece its cool sometimes to nurd about this stuff
