This is the story of a little forgotten popup camper. It was left neglected in a guys backyard. there was no tent, just the frame. started by cleaning out and getting rid of anything bad. then with my limited skills, I started the Restoration and have enjoyed the process.
I hope you enjoy it also. Thanks for watching.

I love the DIY who cares if it's off by a little bit as long as it does what it's supposed to theme this build has. It's like an "up yours" to the idea that everything has to be perfect to be nice. You nailed it, and I'm totally envious. Happy camping!

LOL! I love your perspective James! Yeah the only thing perfect about this old camper was my shoestring budget. All the best to you James and thanks for your comment!

Ross I must say I got a bit emotional watching this. I am so proud for you. Even though we have never met and live thousands of miles apart it has been a pleasure watching you do this project. Maybe, and that is a BIG maybe, some day we will meet up in a campsite with our DIY campers. I look forward to seeing videos of your adventures in the camper.

You are doing a wonderful job and I really like that you showed your insulation, which I noticed with other builder they have not went through this important (well to me) step!
@rossdunn828
@rossdunn828 2 года назад
Thank you for taking time to watch. I thought the insulation would be more of a sound barrier than actual R-value. As it turns out it actually does keep it from changing temps so quickly. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

@@rossdunn828 , yes, the Aliner is an awesome design. Converting my 1996 would allow me to convert my bathtub to a wet bath with shower and potty. Also gain a bunk and more storage. Too late to start it this year with camping season upon us.

I absolutely love this!! This is perfect! I will begin my rebuild of my pop up this fall and this is very inspirational! I have a few questions if that’s ok. How does the metal panels do in the summer? Is it still rather comfortable with the AC? Also where did you find your windows? Again I love this build! Very awesome!
@rossdunn828
@rossdunn828 3 года назад
Hi Sarah, the metal roofing is what I used for the siding and it has worked well. I put some foam board insulation and then the paneling. So it does take a little time for it to get hot/ cold. But the A/C is the way to go in the summer! The windows are utility shed windows, when I bought them they were $30 a piece. If you have any more questions please let me know. I hope you enjoy building yours as much as I did mine.

Awesome build! To permanently raise the original roof, did you just remove all the canvas and build walls for it to sit on top of?
@rossdunn828
@rossdunn828 Год назад
Hi Earl, yes the canvas tent was removed. The metal telescopic lifts at the corners I drilled and put bolts in so they are permanently up. Then I started the stud’s for the walls. I appreciate you commenting and watching!

Great work. This is pretty much exactly what I want to do with my old pop up. How well does this thing tow?
@rossdunn828

Hi, thanks for taking time to watch. That is a good question. I tow it with the 2003 F-150 you see in the video and I hardly know it's back ther except a little in the mountains.

@rossdunn828

Hi Roger, thanks for watching the video! I didn’t weigh it but it pulls about the same as it did when it was a popup. So it’s pretty close to it’s original weight.

Step by step instructions please. What size boards?
@rossdunn828
@rossdunn828 Год назад
Hi reneek, thanks for watching! The framing was 1x2’s covered with 2 foot wide metal siding. The insulation is 2 inch foam board. The interior walls are covered with 1/4” plywood. You could put in any size window but mine were small shed windows. Hope this answers some questions!

Hey Sarah, that's great! I'm not sure about what's normal on fb because I'm not on it. I can tell here on this little channel the feedback has all been positive. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't be positive about you creating something with your own imagination and hard work. I'm cheering for you!
