Sure, here are some tips on laying a patio:
1. Plan and measure: Before you start laying your patio, make sure you have a clear plan and accurate measurements. This will help you determine the amount of materials you need and ensure that your patio is the right size and shape.
2. Choose the right materials: There are many different materials you can use for your patio, including concrete, pavers, and natural stone. Consider the look you want to achieve, as well as the durability and maintenance requirements of each material.
3. Prepare the area: Before you start laying your patio, you need to prepare the area. This involves removing any grass, weeds, or debris, and leveling the ground. You may also need to add a layer of gravel or sand to create a stable base.
4. Lay the patio: Once the area is prepared, you can start laying your patio. Start at one corner and work your way out, laying each piece of material in a straight line. Use a level to ensure that each piece is even and flat.
5. Cut and shape the materials: Depending on the shape of your patio, you may need to cut and shape some of the materials to fit. Use a saw or chisel to make precise cuts, and wear protective gear to avoid injury.
6. Fill the gaps: Once your patio is laid, you may need to fill in the gaps between the materials. This can be done with sand or gravel, which will help to stabilize the patio and prevent weeds from growing.
7. Add finishing touches: Finally, add any finishing touches to your patio, such as edging or decorative elements. This will help to give your patio a polished and professional look.
Remember, laying a patio can be a challenging and time-consuming project, so don't be afraid to ask for help or hire a professional if you need it. With the right materials and techniques, you can create a beautiful and functional outdoor space that you'll enjoy for years to come.

its easy to pick loads of holes in this, lifting techniques 15:47, handling cement with the bare hands 6:40, wearing shorts, and a pair of trainers, kneeling on wet mortar 8:20, that's quite a deep bed under the tiles, 240 cables trailing about the place 13:17, 13:08 no dust mask, but this is a nice job, it looks lovely and clean at the end.

I am from Tunisia and this is exactly how we do our patios and exterior space , some peoples even use Terrazzo tiles . I have some cement tiles that I wanted to lay with Mortar the same way you did here , and everyone I asked here in Florida was like chocked lol 😂 they only lay sand here and lay pavers on top of it that’s it . No ones uses cement to lay pavers or tiles outside ... i finally tried to do the job and I am almost done , it was a first experience and not bad . But you did an amazing job in this video .

Absolutely amazing job. If that was my patio I would be so reassured right now that my money was spent well. I've just moved into a new build and need to get some paving done in the garden. You just set my bar high. I'm going back and forth between slate (from Wales actually) or porcelain. I like how modern the porcelain tiles look but I also love the rustic natural look of real stone. Either way it's still a lot of money as I'm looking at 80m² in total.
@tidybrickslandscaping
@tidybrickslandscaping 3 года назад
Tough choice contemporary and rustic why not go for both just zone it off with something. Some stone do have some great marbleised patterns that porcelain will never have I do really like that. My rate for porcelain is £170m2 if that helps stone a bit less

A semi dry lean mix is also a vital part of the drainage, it allows any water that passes through the grout joint to seep through to the sub base and then into the ground below instead of sitting between the slab and cement bed, which could freeze during the winter months and lift a slab. This is very often over looked

Nice job. My guys do like to use a slightly wetter mix, but there will be no problem with the primer use. Its amazing how many so called Landscapers who dont use the slurry on porcelain slabs telling customers it will be fine! 👍
@tidybrickslandscaping
@tidybrickslandscaping 4 года назад
Years ago I always used a bricklaying type mix for laying slabs then I watched a couple of Marshall’s online RU-vid videos on mix texture and it was a lot drier than I would normally use so I went with that never looked back. And yes it’s all about the primer the most important part of tile installation it sticks like glue once down you’ll never get it up unless you smash it up. Thanks for the message Michael always good to hear from fellow landscapers 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I had been told by a few people that you shouldn’t pave up to the brick work, but to leave a small gap and fill with small stone to prevent splash back on the dpc, also to allow a bit water to seep down to stop the clay beneath the foundation from drying out and thus any subsidence issues. Is this not the case?
@tidybrickslandscaping
@tidybrickslandscaping 4 года назад
Not quite the case no regulations state you must be 150mm finished floor lever beneath the dpc course 2 visible bricks. And it’s better to keep the foundation’s dry ass possible. 👍

Usually I'll they use concrete mix to get a flooring, level it, then tile by thin set, grout to finish. In this here I see a semi dry/wet mix the some type of bond on the tile , then a liquid pour of something then powerwash... seems to work here but I'm guessing there is many ways to tile

Semi dry or wet it all dries the same but it’s more difficult if you use a wetter mix they can move more and excess cement rises to the top through the joints and makes the face of the tile dirty. As long as you use a good primer it’ll set the same. Actually just uploaded a new video today using the primer. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

@tidybrickslandscaping 4 года назад
Hey john it’s all good you most likely will enjoy using when you get your first contract for it, I laid stone for years loved it but always hated stone sizes always varied in size so you ended up with tight joints wide joints drove me insane but here’s where the porcelain comes in every tile exactly the same as the last finally you can use spaces and that helps you out in the long run but y0u will need a new type saw and be advisable to get a table saw because now you’ll have to be millimetre perfect 👌 About your question on laying on type1 or concrete either way will work, I normally lay on type1 but will be moving on up and start laying on concrete with a polished surface then you could use a screeding trowel and put them down as you would tiling a indoor ceramic floor. More prep work but a very speedy ending flat as a pancake any questions mate feel free Stay safe 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

My patio slopes away from house and I want to put aco drain at bottom of patio. There is no pitch on patio going across the way. So how do I pitch the aco drain across the patio as it wouldn't be flush at other end as it would be a few inches lower

Why do you want drainage at the bottom of the patio can’t you just let the water soak into the grass

@Tidybricks Landscaping, great workmanship! Your videos / tutorials are some of the best on You Tube. Good to see you're showing all steps and not hiding any trade secrets. How do you work out your tile pattern / layout beforehand considering it's a bit of a puzzle with the different size tiles? Do you have many cuts to make on the outer edge? Cheers.

I went with the pattern layout provided but you might not notice I kind of screwed the pattern a bit at one point. Thank you for this video, I’ve had porcelain tiles laid wrongly, builders came back and removed them but never came back to lay them, I’m disabled and needed it all flush with my doors, slot drain is in front of doors, now I have a concrete patio with tile adhesive stuck to it and all my 600 x 600 porcelain tiles are a mess. The levels were all wrong and the tiles started moving because the adhesive was coming up the sides where the grout should be. My question is do we smash up the patio and start again or can the patio be saved and levelled, also the tiles have adhesive and grout stuck to them how do I get them clean? My patio is about the same size as this one, I can’t afford to get a professional in now but I’m hoping you will be able to give me some advice. Thank you
@tidybrickslandscaping
@tidybrickslandscaping 4 года назад
Sounds like 2 options rip it up all of it as the levels are wrong anyways so it’ll all have to go or possibly you kind of make do with what’s there and get it cement finished and live with it, whatever the route you’ll be taking it is very unfortunate situation you’re in.
