I'm sure you've looked up more information on Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree after watching this but here's some if you haven't.. Steven Wilson is the brainchild of Porcupine Tree. In fact, it started as a solo project for him. He wrote all the music for Porcupine Tree. However, Gavin Harrison's drumming, Richard Barbieri's keyboards, Colin Edwin's bass and John Wesley's live performances on guitar and backing vocals are just a great combination. Not to mention Chris Maitland's drumming before Gavin Harrison took over. Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth is hugely influenced by Porcupine Tree. In fact, he at least said a while back that they were his favorite band ever. Steven Wilson is a big part of Opeth's sound starting with Blackwater Park. Anyway, Steven Wilson is now a solo artist and I'm sure others will recommend you listen to some of that stuff (very powerful stuff with an incredible backing band comprising of heavy-hitters Guthrie Govan, Marco Minneman and others, although the backing band tends to change each album. He's had numerous side-projects while he was still working on Porcupine Tree. Blackfield is a great duo between him and Israeli musician/songwriter Aviv Geffen. Steven Wilson is no longer apart of Blackfield but Blackfield I and II are great albums that are more pop sounding with tons of heart-wrenching tracks. Porcupine Tree is indefinitely on hiatus because Steven Wilson enjoys his complete freedom to tread in different musical territories as a solo musician once again (including jazz, pop, electronic, and still a solid dose of prog rock). Long story short, Steven Wilson is God.

I wonder if he and Devin Townsend would try making some experimental extraordinary experiences anytime... They're already legends, but if linked, would also be of the most epic duo project of all times. Words cannot describe their ingenuity and integrity. No matter how much they manage to experiment in one day haha :D

It's really impossible to go wrong with any live Porcupine Tree. I've seen them twice and they are hands down the best live band I've ever seen. I saw them open for Yes, one of the greatest prog acts of all time, and I honestly felt bad for Yes. Porcupine Tree's set was an impossible act to follow even for a legendary band. Steven Wilson's live performances are equally incredible. You might try the live versions Holy Drinker or The Watchmaker. Absolutely stunning.

I fuckin love this song, and I fuckin LOVE your reaction too! Some other dudes who do reactions hardly react at all. They sit there, quietly, through the song, and when it is finished they hardly say anything about the song. But you make all the right comments during the song, like when you go "wooow" at a drum fill. That's what a reaction is supposed to be! Music invokes something, or should at least, and you clearly let that shine through, and that's what I love about your reactions more than most others who do the same kind of thing. And when the song is finished you actually say stuff that makes sense, and that I can relate to. Keep that up, cause you're doing a fuckin great job with this! Now...as a fan of Porcupine Tree I have to give some suggestions. I have quite an extensive list actually...but I'm going to just say this: Arriving somewhere but not here. Of course you should also react to some of Steven Wilsons solo stuff. Either Drive Home, Routine or Harmony Korine is a good start.

This is to me undoubtedly the best song ever written. THE band that truly inspired me to learn to play guitar, sing and write music. Trains is also an emotional masterpiece of a song that everybody that has heard of PT needs to listen to. That song has moved me so much over the years. Also Colin Edwin constantly looks like the happiest, most content man on the planet when he lays down the groove. A lot of his basslines made me pick up bass for many years too.

This just might be cleanest, tightest live band I've ever seen. You have to watch/react to two more Porcupine Tree songs, "Arriving Somewhere but not Here" and "Hatesong". Watch the live versions, both from a show in Chicago in 2005. The first is their best song, in my opinion of course. The second is... well, you just have to experience it for yourself.

This song saved my life, no joke. Everyone in Porcupine Tree is amazing, but Steven Wilson is...I don't know. Somehow this song understood what I was going through at the time, and that tells me Wilson really has the perspective to understand pain like nobody else.

Your reaction is EXACTLY how I reacted when I saw them live. I had only heard one Porcupine Tree song prior to seeing them live in Philadelphia, 2007. This was the 3rd song they played and after it I turned to my buddy and said "What the fuck just happened!?! Are you fucking kidding me?!?" And that was it...I was totally hooked. They ended the first set with Sleep Together - check that out Live from Tillburg as well...ridiculous.

I think Fear of a Blank Planet is their best album. They are such an unusual band that they played for like twenty years and their best stuff is near the end. Wilson's solo albums are good. He's an amazing song writer. But it's almost exactly like Roger Waters without Pink Floyd. The two need each other. Wilson gets a little too self-indulgent without his band mates.

Nice video! Porcupine Tree is to me one of the most enjoyable things I've found in years, and this song is just epic in every way, even more so this live version. It's incredible and never get tired of listening to it. Porcupine Tree gives a different experience with each album, so I recommend taking time and exploring all of it, my favourites besides Fear of a Blank Planet, are Deadwing and In Absentia, but also love Stupid Dream, The Sky Moves Sideways (as a full trip) and Voyage 34 (as another full trip). Probably doesn't make sense to make a reaction video because is quite long, but one not-so-old progressive album that makes me keep coming back to it, and absolutely love is The Road of Bones by IQ, some people don't like his voice, but I think everything else on that full album is worth a good listen, and I believe is one of the best prog albums of recent years, highly recommended.

Gave the same recommendations to Ruben Buijs but you two guys are my go to so I figure I would leave you the same list I left him: (A bit lighter) Porcupine Tree - Gravity Eyelids Our Oceans-Let Me, Jolly - Still a Dream, (Kinda Heavy) Dethklok - Morte Lumina. Volumes - Finite Tool - Aenima Soilwork - Epitome (Heavier) Make Them Suffer - Uncharted or Ether, AVERSIONS CROWN - Ophiophagy, Rings of Saturn - Natural Selection and Godless Times Fallujah - Abandon

Now that you've discovered Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson, I highly recommend you check out their song Trains or Mr. Wilson's song Drive Home. Both tracks are emotive masterpieces.

I love both Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree, and I adore how much heavier Porcupine Tree were. A song like "Cut Ribbon" really show cases that, though I believe there is both a Porcupine Tree version of that song and a Wilson one. I'd check that out next if I were you. Keep up the work my man.

Excellent choice. My favorite PT song from my favorite PT album. If you dig them, check out OSI, a progressive/experimental rock/metal band that features Gavin Harrison (PT's drummer), Jim Matheos (Fates Warning), Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, Dream Theater), and has previously featured Steven Wilson, Mike Portnoy and Mikael Åkerfeldt. For the first song, I'd recommend Invisible Men. Brilliant stuff.

Check out Arriving Somewhere But Not Here and Fear of a Blank Planet. Really just check out of all of Porcupine Tree, them and Opeth are the best.

I would recommend Devin Townsend, or Riverside - if you love prog. Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson's solo stuff is amazing.

Maurice Leo Lionhart I haven't seen anyone else recommend Riverside. So many people out there that haven't been exposed to their excellence yet.

This is a bit of a change of pace for the channel (emphasis on a bit lol) but "Mutoid Man" blow me a kiss. It's like a new age punk with super heavy riffs. I think you'd enjoy it. Even if you don't have time to do a reaction for it, I would still recommend turning their new album on. It's under 40 minutes so it's a quick listen. Cheers man!

Mate. Try Luminol by Steven Wilson from (imho) his seminal album The Raven that couldn’t sing. I love nearly all his extensive output, particularly Porcupine Tree and his solo stuff.
